January 10, 2014 Friday

Abs of Steel this morning.  Good strengthening for the back, so I can shovel move snow.

James Chapter 5 - about patience.  This disciple obviously never drove during rush hour.  He does say to practice patience, compassion and mercy as God does with us.  I believe the key word here is practice.

1982 - On this day, I looked out my bedroom window and thought WOW the neighbors must have flooded the yard for an ice pond.  It was very cold, like this year and my hot water pipe burst under the house and flooded water all night to both my neighbors and my yard.  I called into work and called a plumber.  I got ahold (with divine intervention) of Cass.  He and another guy came and went under the house (crawl) and spent 3 days, digging up the semi buried pipe, replacing and insulating them.  The real culprit was a hole left open on the back skirting of the crawl space from recent construction.  I made soup and coffee and whatever I could for these 2 guys and at the end, he gave me a bill for $800.00.  As I tell you everyday, from the Bible,  there IS a God.

Parenting - Possibly the hardest time of being a parent is that last month of being pregnant, waiting for that child.  Now that's patience.  The reward is seeing that sweet baby born and handed to you.  Patience is rewarded.

Vancouver -

Exploration and contact[edit]

The first European to explore the coast of present-day Point Grey and parts of Burrard Inlet was José María Narváez of Spain, in 1791, although one author contends that Francis Drake may have visited the area in 1579.[24] The city is named after George Vancouver, who explored the inner harbour of Burrard Inlet in 1792 and gave various places British names.[25][26][27]
The explorer and North West Company trader Simon Fraser and his crew were the first known Europeans to set foot on the site of the present-day city. In 1808, they travelled from the east down the Fraser River, perhaps as far as Point Grey.[28]

Thursday January 9, 2014

Get Started!  with weight watchers video.  aerobic dance with intervals of weight workouts.  I think just remembering all the dance steps or motions that they do is a workout for my memory.  Love those fish arms.

Luke chapter 24 - Jesus appears to the Disciples.  That is after he died on the cross and was resurrected 3 days later.  He appeared to a great number of people during this time and promised to leave the Spirit behind to help us keep the faith.  I can understand how those who have not been baptized with the Spirit might find this story  hard to believe.  Risen from the dead,  He is risen indeed.

1980 - On this day, it is Mom's birthday.  But I got the gift in 1980.  Christine's brother George called from Toronto and told her he had seats on a charter plane that included 8 nights in the Bahama's for 180.00 each.  I called my friend Linda and we packed and made train reservations to Toronto for the following day.  I still went to Mom's for dinner that night, but no cake, I usually bake her a cake.We had a ball didn't we Linda?  Take a vacation!  Should have gone to Tahiti with Annie.

Parenting - Today is Mom's 92nd birthday, she lives with me and has for the last 10-12 years.  She is still pretty sharp, not real mobile but  has a great appetite.  Nicole and I will take her to Logan's for dinner tonight, and have cake all weekend for anyone that comes over.  Wish I could take her to the Bahamas,  I would have to go to you know.

Vancouver - I would go to Vancouver, in the summer. Here is some more info:

Indigenous people[edit]

Archaeological records indicate the presence of Aboriginal people in the Vancouver area from 8,000 to 10,000 years ago.[21][22] The city is located in the traditional territories of the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tseil-Waututh (Burrard) peoples of the Coast Salish group.[23] They had villages in various parts of present day Vancouver, such as Stanley Park, False Creek, Kitsilano, Point Grey and near the mouth of the Fraser River.[22]

Wednesday Januaray 8, 2014 Guess what day it is?

I took the day off.  Problem is I always feel like I forgot something and wonder what it is all day.

Colossians chapter 3 - Great advice or maybe instruction is a better word.  (13) "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone."  It's a good day for this, early in the year, clean the slate.  I forgive anyone I have a grievance with as of this moment.  This is a great reading and puts your Christianity into perspective.  Forgive and be forgiven by God.

1977 - On this day, my friend Pete took me to pick up my Austin Healy Sprite.  It was the little two seat, yellow sports car.  Not the bug eye version, but the cheaper style, but I loved it, especially in the summer with the top down.  But it was doomed, like it had a bullseye on it.  Pete was forever fixing it or taking it into the collision shop.  I was never personally in it in an accident, it just attracted other cars when it was parked, maybe they didn't see it, it was small.  Anyway, Pete found the most interesting people, a black guy that lived in an old house down in the city and could find any part for any car.  You had to take a bottle of gin and sit and drink with him, leave a note with the part you needed for what vehicle and your phone number.  When he called you had to take another bottle of gin and go pick it up.  Now that's a great memory, and he was a great guy to listen to.  Never assume anyone is forgettable.  Drink gin with someone, even if you don't like it.

Parenting - My daughter is well aware of my previous life, BN (before Nicole).  She has heard it all from friends and family who have wanted to share and enlighten her, so nothing surprises her.  I enjoyed many experiences and know a lot of people because of it, and am tolerable of many personalities.  My life changed dramatically when Aaron and Nicole entered my life, probably because in my family, that was how kids were raised.  You provided a safe, loving environment, surrounded by family and friends that grew with your kids and taught them love and responsibility to each other and themselves.  They seem fine.

Vancouver -
Vancouver is consistently named as one of the top five worldwide cities for livability and quality of life,[15][16] and the Economist Intelligence Unit acknowledged it as the first city to rank among the top-ten of the world's most livable cities[17] for five consecutive years.[18] Vancouver has hosted many international conferences and events, including the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, UN Habitat I, Expo 86, and the World Police and Fire Games in 1989 and 2009. Canada will host the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, and several matches will be played in Vancouver, including the final at BC Place Stadium.[19] The 2010 Winter Olympics and 2010 Winter Paralympics were held in Vancouver and nearby Whistler, a resort community 125 km (78 mi) north of the city.[20]

Tuesday January 7, 2014 Deep freeze

After I took the garbage out at 7am and thought I froze my eyeballs (-13 degrees) I had to warm up with "Kicken with Country" with Denise Austin.  I was warm when I got done! Achy Breaky heart.

Matthew chapter 6 - a continuation of yesterdays reading, which today includes the Lord's Prayer.  I personally don't know anyone that can't recite the Lord's prayer.  They say that even patients with Alhzeimer's remember it.  Good thing to get stuck in your head.

1973 -- On this day, Mom and her husband Bob, both 52 went somewhere to pick up a 2nd snowmobile. Everyone we knew had snowmobiles and Bob decided Mom should have her own.  They spent a lot of time in Gaylord and rode all over.  Problem was they didn't get home till after midnight and my 2 brothers, Andy and Mark and I were very worried about where they were.  It is all relative isn't it?  Those were the days before cell phones and they didn't call to let us know not to worry.  Well Bob had been a bachelor all of his life, so that's understandable, but Mom caught it when she got home.  Mom will be 92 this week, so snowmobiling must be good for you.

Parenting - My daughter is better then I am at checking in.  It only takes a text now to let someone know "here".   It is a considerate thing to do, teach your kids, they all have phones now starting at what? 3 or 4?  Just kidding.  right?

Vancouver - The original settlement, named Gastown, grew around the Hastings Mill logging sawmill and a nearby tavern, both established in 1867. Enlarging to become the townsite of Granville, with the announcement that the railhead would reach the site it was renamed "Vancouver" and incorporated as a city in 1886. By 1887, the transcontinental railway was extended to the city to take advantage of its large natural seaport, which soon became a vital link in a trade route between the Orient, Eastern Canada, and London.[6][7] As of 2009, Port Metro Vancouver is the busiest and largest port in Canada, and the most diversified port in North America.[8] While forestry remains its largest industry, Vancouver is well known as an urban centre surrounded by nature, making tourism its second-largest industry.[9] Major film production studios in Vancouver and Burnaby have turned Metro Vancouver into one of the largest film production centres in North America,[10][11] earning it the film industry nickname, Hollywood North.

Monday January 6, 2014

Got out and shoveled snow early with Nicole.  That was two hours of good workout.  Think I might do some yoga later to stretch out and rest those muscles.

Matthew chapter 6 - this is about giving to the needy and prayer.  It says to not brag about your good deeds and how much you pray, which makes sense and usually makes others mad at you.  It is hard to not share if it is in fact part of your daily life, and when does it stop being bragging and just being casual conversation because that is what you did today?  Anyway, keep giving and praying and let God sort it out.

2005 - On this day, I had gone into the hospital the day before with chest pain, which turned out to be my gall bladder.  In the mean time, still thinking it was heart they did a catherization to see if I had a  blockage.  The doctor had to make two attempts to get the "thing" in and finally reached the heart from the groin area.  He excitedly turned the screen to me so I could see that the screen looked like fire works, he kept smiling and saying "look NO blockages beautiful!"  that was a good thing, but all during this the nurse had to stand for two hours putting pressure on the first "nick" as he called it so I didn't bleed to death. Thank a nurse for their undying dedication to patients. Wish I could call her and thank her again.  I will offer up a prayer for her, oh shouldn't have told you.

Parenting - Nicole and Mom stayed at the hospital with me.  After that procedure you have to lay flat on your back for 6 hours, which is ok if you can sleep, but then you risk that you might turn.  Nicole fed me a sandwich and held the straw so I could drink without lifting my head.  You really need family at the hospital because as great as those nurses are, they are terribly overworked and can use all the hands they can get to help.

Vancouver - The City of Vancouver encompasses a land area of about 114 square kilometres, giving it a population density of about 5,249 people per square kilometre (13,590 per square mile). Vancouver is the most densely populated Canadian municipality, and the fourth most densely populated city over 250,000 residents in North America, behind New York City, San Francisco,[5] and Mexico City.

Sunday January 5, 2014 snow day

will get plenty of exercise today, shoveling snow, even if it is a day of rest.  Be sure you are in good shape before you go out and shovel.

Epheseians chapter 1 - God adopts a new child.  A child that he loves unconditionally and forgives all their sin.  He loves and enjoys the goodness of this new child created in love.  It is you.

2000 - On this day, I was doing yoga and emailing friends.  I had a Raquel Welsh video to follow yoga.  She did standing and stretching poses and I did them for an entire week at a time then.  That video is long gone, worn out, but I remember it when I see pictures of Rachelle in poses on beaches and plazas around the world, so much better!  I don't remember when I got a computer that was connected to the internet, but on this day I emailed my buddy Linda in Texas.  She called me New Years Eve to say hello, we talked for maybe 1/2 hour or so.  It was so much better.

Parenting - We love to see our kids do well in life and enjoy things that we maybe never had the chance to.  Rachelle traveled extensively this year and I asked her Mom and Dad how they could stand her being in so many countries, alone and Cathy said she was ok with it, happy for her.  Rick on the other hand sounded like she would be on a short chain when she gets home.  I pray a lot when Nicole travels, as I did for Rachelle.  Nicole is going out to Utah snowboarding later this month and later this year to Guatemala on a mission trip.  That's going to keep me on my knees.  Sometimes, I know we are just happy to see them go - anywhere, depends on the day, huh?

Vancouver:
Vancouver is the city that has it all: natural beauty and cosmopolitan flair. Set between the Pacific Ocean and the coastal mountains, it has a harmonious blend of nature and urban living. Gardens, parks, and beaches are as common here as heritage buildings, restaurants, and theatres. While maintaining the laid-back attitude of North America's West Coast, Vancouver has managed to build an international spirit. As the third largest city in Canada, it shares an ethnic diversity and ... More

Saturday January 4, 2014

Good cardio and strength training with Jillian this morning.  Trying to build up to hang in there for more then 5 circuits.  I did cut back to the 3 lb weights, that helped.  I'll get there.

Philippians chapter 1 - I thank my God every time I remember you.  This should bring joy to all of us who knew Hilary, that now she is closer to God to thank him for us....  thanks Hilary.  Paul thanked God for his persecution and imprisonment, because it strengthened the faith of his followers and gave him new people to reach out the gospel to.  Setbacks can make us stronger I guess.

1991 - On this day- husband Mark and I took the kids and went to Grandma and Grandpa's in Florida the day after Christmas, but today was the day we headed back home.  We had a TV in the car then, but you drove out of the reception area every 1/2 hour or so, but the kids always entertained themselves some how.  Their dad entertained them too, like the multi colored loose pajama type pants that he wore home in the car.  When we got to Tennessee we finally stopped for the night and all piled out of the car at the hotel to get a room.  After the key was handed over and we were walking out the young girl at the counter called out to Mark "I like your pants" in her best deep south accent.  We have never forgot it.  Good times and memories.

Parenting - I prefer to remember all the wonderful times we had as a family and there were many!  The trips, the boat racing the parties and barbecues.  The kids had a great, happy childhood with a lot of love and loving people around.  Great friends also added to a positive upbringing.  Give your kids lots of happy memories and show them how you treat people (assuming that's good) and they will grow up to replay those experiences in their own lives.
