December 8, 2017 Friday #MovetoMyFathershouseEskimology

Get Fit
It will be a busy day, lots on the agenda.  The best way for me to get some additional pep and energy is to move, first thing.  What about you?  Are you sitting around waiting for some energy to hit?  That isn't going to do it.  You have to move, even marching in place gets the blood and oxygen moving!

Get Faith
John 14:2-3  "In My Father's house are many mansions....I go to prepare a place for you.... I will come again and receive you to Myself;  that where I am, there you may be also."  Think about that - Jesus said! "In My Father's house are many mansions"  What does that mean to you?  If He said it - I believe it!  Are there houses for each of us? Americans, Canadians, Mexicans?  Or is it divided by what language you speak?  Wait, will we all speak the same language?  Has He made provisions for those of different faiths?  "I go to prepare a place for you"  I know that because He loves us so much we will be happy there, much more than here.

On this day
1976 - Mom called me and said my brother Mark was in the hospital, Beaumont in Royal Oak.  They only kept him long enough to get his blood sugar where it needed to be and then they unhooked him and sent him out.  He was a diabetic with no insurance.  So, I know the ramifications of someone not being insured and the level of care they get.  I went to the hospital and took him to lunch when he war released.  He was basically homeless, the psychiatrist assured us he would take care of himself if we cut him loose.  That never happened.  I was working two jobs - my job at Quality and at the Scotch for tips in the coat room check.  He made it through this time but it never got better. He is in My Father's house now.

1776 - George Washington's retreating army in the American Revolution crossed the Delaware River from New Jersey to Pennsylvania  200 years earlier this happened.  Have you seen the oil painting of George standing in the boat?  It is pretty famous!

December 7, 2017 Thursday#CreationChristmasandKingsandNagdlunguaq-48

Get Faith
We are studying Genesis at this time.  Learning the stories in Sunday School are much different than studying them as an adult.  Someone questioned who was there at creation to question whether it happened the way the Bible says it did.  We believe that men (Israelites) told and retold and wrote down the stories that have passed down to become the Bible.  It is the most interesting book you can study I believe.  In questioning the "truth" of the stories I mentioned that I always believed that God, when He still walked the earth and talked with Adam, Noah, etc - would as any father would, shared these stories with them and I believe they are the truth.  There are many theories and very interesting concepts.  You should read it - with a Pastor or Theologian so they can tell you what they have learned.

On this day
1975  It was back in the days when you could afford a box of Christmas cards and the postage to mail them.  It is quickly getting to be a decision of whether you want to send out those cards or eat.  This day in 1975 was a Sunday and I went Christmas shopping, baked Zucchini bread and wrote cards out.  Pete had gone to his parents earlier in the day to fix their car and then was home in time for dinner.  I wish I wrote down what TV programs we were watching in those days.

1431 - In Paris, Henry VI of England was crowned King of France. I really need to read my history, the King of England became the King of France?

Sport[edit]

The town is home to Nagdlunguaq-48 who play in the Greenlandic Men's Football Championship, Greenland's top soccer competition. Nagdlunguaq-48, who play all their league games in Nuuk, have won the championship ten times (as of 2016).

The Greenlandic Football Championship (GreenlandicAngutit Inersimasut GMDanishGrønlandsmesterskab i fodbold), known as the Coca-Cola GM for sponsorship reasons, is the premier football competition in Greenland. It was established in 1954 and since 1971, it has been organised by the Football Association of Greenland.
Due to the geography of Greenland, the championship typically has three phases. The first phase consists of matches between clubs from the same town, the second consists clubs that are geographically close to each other (local phase). The winners of this phase play in the national championship. The latest winner of the championship is Inuit Timersoqatigiiffiat-79, winning the trophy in 2017Here's a little more on the subject.

I was doing great planking until the cat came  in.  We always know when he is ready to pounce.

Get Faith
Isaiah 66:12    "For thus says the Lord, "Behold, I extend peace...like a river.""  Peace the ever elusive gift.  I should feel it today.  I'm pretty sure I will be singing that song all day "I got peace like a river, I got peace like a river......

On this day
1974 - My friend Judy and I went to the Scotch for lunch.  This raises a lot of questions.  Judy and I could not afford to eat at the Scotch and Sirloin, not even lunch.  It was a classy place that Waynette worked at for years as the day manager and maybe that is why we went there?  It was a hot night spot that's for sure.  A lot of the big shot business men around the area and TV news people frequented the place.  They made the best soups and in house Ranch dressing.  yum.

I had to leave the house early on Saturday so I didn't get to do my AM yoga.  I did today aaahhhhh.

Get Faith
John 14: 27  "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."  This earth cannot achieve peace.  We can agree on nothing.  The peace that Jesus gives us is not the same, it is a peace that no matter what this world offers His peace can calm and reassure you in any situation.  It is worth getting your faith's hands on.  The study writer offered this Christmas carol verse;

"Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
     God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men."    (I Heard the Bells on Christmas day.)

1973  I had missed a few years, like 1970, 71, 72  This is the last entry of a few in 1973.  It tells me enough to remember the year and the reason I didn't want to write it down.  I lived in my house in Birmingham, Pete had moved in and so had my kid brother, Mark.  I was constantly at odds with anyone and their opinion of Mark.  He had a lot of problems that Mom and I tried desperately to help him with, but it wasn't to be.  Some people are incapable of taking care of themselves, Mark was one of them, a totally dependent personality.  Everyone involved wanted to believe he could get it together and encouraged us to cut him loose and make him stand on his own.  It never happened and only served to ruin an already bad health situation.  On this day I only mentioned Mark was in a bad mood, surprisingly unusual for him.  He was a sweet, faithful, troubled soul.  Rip brother.

1973 - Pioneer 10 reached Jupiter!!  Out of this world!

The Ilulissat Declaration arose from the conference. It stated that the law of the sea provided for important rights and obligations concerning the delineation of the outer limits of the continental shelf, the protection of the marine environment, including ice-covered areas, freedom of navigation, marine scientific research, and other uses of the sea. It also said that it remained committed to this legal framework and to the orderly settlement of any possible overlapping claims.
With this existing legal framework, providing a solid foundation for responsible management, there was no need to develop a new comprehensive international legal regime to govern the Arctic Ocean. The states involved, would keep abreast of the developments in the Arctic Ocean and continue to implement appropriate measures.[14]
Panorama of Ilulissat

Get Faith
Proverbs &;2003 "Keep My commandments and live, and My teaching as the apple of your eye.  Bind them on your fingers, write them on the tablet of your heart."  It also says to post them on your door frame.  I found some little round magnets with the 10 Commandments on them - perfect if you have a metal door, which I do.  The print in too little for me to read, but I know the 10 Commandments, as most of us do.  Pray for those who don't , their problems pour out of their lives and into ours.

On this day
1967  My fiancee and I went for a ride on this Sunday afternoon.  We stopped at a coffee shop we often went to and sat in the car in the parking lot drinking our coffee.  I don't know how the conversation got started but the subject came up.  I had lost my virginity to rape.  He had questions, a lot of them and after a while I realized he was really mad.  This is another byproduct of what is so much in the news today.  We handled it way different - we didn't discuss it wisely.  It answered some questions he had like, why I didn't want to have sex but the conversation ended with him being angry - at me, I thought.  I felt like he thought it was my fault.  He later said he was afraid to have sex with me and thought he would hurt me again.  Why we got married I'll never know.  Of course it didn't last.  The topic is on the news and is a huge issue these days.  Maybe the world will finally look at this differently and maybe the  rapport between men and women will forever change - to what it should have been back in Eden before sin.

1967 - In Cape Town, South Africa, a team ofSURGEONS headed by Dr. Christian Barnard, performed the first human heart transplant on Louis Washkansky. Washkansky only lived 18 days. It was a start.

IlulissatThe town was the site of the Arctic Ocean Conference in May 2008.[12] The joint meeting between Canada, Denmark, NorwayRussia, and the United States was held to discuss key issues relating to territorial claims in the Arctic (particularly Hans Island and Arktika 2007) and Arctic shrinkage produced by climate change.[13]  It was a start

December 2, 2017 Saturday #runninghelp#forgiven!#change#empoor#!ZionsKirke!

Get Fit
Running - out the door to go help with a Santa's store and wrapping.  Maybe some yoga later!  I do love my Saturday yoga.

Get Faith
Luke 6:37  "Forgiven and you will be forgiven."  We all worry about God forgiving our sin when, in fact, He already has in the suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Forgiveness is not for God's benefit - it is for your benefit.  He wants you to be sorry for the things you have done wrong so that you think about not doing them again.  The things that we do wrong generally hurt us more than it hurts others.  Forgiving someone for something they have wronged you on, gets a heavy burden off your mind.  I'm working on my neighbor and that poor dog behind me, I have to forgive him.  It is not easy.

On this day
2014  This was three years ago but it seems like ages.  I had made turkey soup and delivered some to my neighbors Deb and Al across the street.  Al has moved out to New Baltimore and Deb is moving to her brothers this week.  They have both lived here since I moved in 40 years ago.  I ran some errands, had a doctor appointment and then met Pam and Norma at Olive Garden for dinner, which we still do.  Oh, I also baked cookies.  Gee, where did that energy go? Hope you find the energy you need on this Saturday to get all you want done and get that sweet sense of satisfaction that comes with accomplishment.  Go!

1804 - Napoleon was crowned emperor of France at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. Now that is notable!  Remember this for Jeopardy!!

Ilulissat Greenland

History[edit]

The town was established as a trading post by Jacob Severin's company in 1741 and was named in his honor.[9][10]
The Zion Church (Zions Kirke) was built in the late 18th century, and was the largest man-made structure in Greenland at the time.[10]The final resident of nearby Sermermiut moved to Ilulissat in 1850.[11]  This is not an unusual name for a church I found.  .

Started my day with Jillian today.  She says you have to work out those arms  because they are what most people see of you naked all the time.  humph,  something to think about.

Get Faith
Proverbs 15:30  "A cheerful look brings joy to the heart."  I have made an effort for the last many years to remember to smile.  While driving, don't change the look on your face when you are sitting at the light,  look in your review mirror - if it scares you think what others are seeing.  I have specifically started smiling and making eye contact with others in the grocery store - 99% of them smile back and I pray for the one that doesn't.  Hey, its a plan.

On this day
2013  The day after the night before.  Lindsey and Scott had their Holiday Party, maybe the first one in their beautifully finished basement.  We had a good time but you know the next day?  Well Nicole had to go to work, I got bagels for breakfast, we obviously passed on church.  Don had stayed the night and put up the TV mount for us before he headed back to Redford.  I found the energy to make an apple cake after that.  Not the night owl party girl I used to be!

2013 - Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos revealed "Amazon Prime Air" on "60 Minutes." The services was planned to use unmanned aerial vehicles to deliver packages to customers.

Parenting
Reprint from 2014
Parenting - I have failed as a parent.  I never taught my daughter how to forage in the refrigerator for food, how to look behind items or take lids off, or open drawers or use utensils to pull out the white meat from the bottom of the bag.  I'm sorry. I crack me up.

Ilulissat Greenland
Ilulissat, formerly Jakobshavn or Jacobshaven,[4] is a town in the Qaasuitsup municipality in western Greenland, located approximately 350 km (220 mi) north of the Arctic Circle. With the population of 4,541 as of 2013,[5] it is the third-largest city in Greenland, after Nuuk and Sisimiut. The city is home to almost as many sled-dogs as people.
In direct translation, Ilulissat is the Kalaallisut word for "Icebergs".[6] The nearby Ilulissat Icefjord is a UNESCO World Heritage Site,[7]and has made Ilulissat the most popular tourist destination in Greenland.[8] Tourism is now the town's principal industry. The city neighbours the Ilulissat Icefjord, where there are enormous icebergs from the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere.  Wow!  the most popular tourist destination in Greenland!  Hope we can get a room!
