January 24, 2015 Saturday

A little aerobics this morning, cha cha cha.

Isaiah - chapter 30  Our help is in the Lord. "Blessed is he who waits for the Lord".  Mom gets very depressed when she wakes up every morning, again.  She is waiting for the Lord to take her, not surprising at 93.  I always tell her that it is up to him.

On this day;
2005 - It was a cold dismal rainy January day so after work I stopped at the library to find something on Indore India, which is where I was on this day - cyber traveling.  I don't use the library anymore they were woefully lacking.  I just go on the internet.  It was a great way to whisk myself away from the tedium of everyday life.  So it's been over 10 years I have been doing this traveling.

1935 - Krueger Brewing Company placed the first canned beer on sale in Richmond, VA. Now this is memorable!

Parenting - On this day in 2005 - one of the guys that I worked with and his wife took their daughter to the hospital for treatment for anorexia.  That mom went 100% out to cure her daughter of this nasty affliction.  She would make her eat 4 almonds and sit and stare at her while she did, to make sure she didn't sneak it out of her mouth.  She had my deepest admiration for her passion to make this right.  Last I heard it had and the girl was fine.  I hope so.

Book  - I am dying to pick up some books here that I want to read, but I'm sticking to my guns about finishing this book I am writing.  It is coming along.

Bhutan -- Cuisine

This is a traditional Bhutanese recipe for a classic curry of finely-chopped chicken cooked with garlic, onions, tomato and chillies.

Tshoem is the Bhutanese word for 'curry'. In this case it has the same meaning as the original Indian word, representing a thickened sauce or gravy which is not necessarily either hot or very heavily spiced.

Ingredients:

1 whole chicken (about 1.4kg) [or use a mix of breasts and thighs] 2 tbsp vegetable oil 2 garlic cloves, crushed 1 onion, sliced thinly 1 tomato, chopped 3 green chillies, finely chopped 1 tsp salt

Jasha Maroo (Minced Chicken Tshoem) Preparation:

Method:

Remove as much of the chicken meat from the bone as possible then chop into small, almost pea-sized, pieces. Transfer the meat to a saucepan and mix in the oil, salt and enough water to cover the meat. Bring to a boil then add the onion and reduce to a simmer. Cook for about 50 minutes, or until the meat is just tender.
Now add the add the garlic, ginger and chillies and return to a boil (add a little more water if necessary). Cook for a further 10 minutes, or until heated through. Serve hot on a bed of rice.
Guess I'll try this.

Enjoy the day!  Make it memorable!  Happy Birthday to Holly!

January 23, 2015 Friday

Got up late, but am going to the Auto Show so I will get some walking in.

Philippians  chapter 3 - It is so much harder to forgive ourselves.  God has forgiven you through Jesus Christ - completely.  Now you just have to believe it yourself, and act on it as a mature faithful Christian. "Forgetting those things which are behind.... I press toward the goal." 3:13-14

On this day;
2004 - Nicole came home from Albion and packed up for Michiluca for winter camp with church.  She has always loved the camps and the activity that went with that.  The camaraderie, the trip, the sleeping bags, the toboggan run, the deep snow, the Bible Studies, games....I could go on.  This might have been the year they were snowboarding on the hill - I did not go this year.  Now she can plan camps!

1907 - Charles Curtis, of Kansas, began serving in the United States Senate. He was the first American Indian to become a U.S. Senator. He resigned in March of 1929 to become U.S. President Herbert Hoover’s Vice President. interesting!

Parenting - Last night a group of us fed the homeless at a local church.  Two of the men were father and son.  Most of the men looked like anyone you might know.  Only a few looked like they were really homeless.  I get a deep feeling of satisfaction doing these programs, talking to people over dinner and making them feel like they are just part of community.

Bhutan - Social aid

Health care system[edit]

A Basic Health Unit in Phobjika Valley, Wangdue Phodrang District.
The Ministry of Health has provided universal health care in Bhutan since the 1970s. Health care infrastructure and services are planned and developed through Five Year Plans (FYP) of the Ministry of Health.[6] The first democratically appointed Health Minister, Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk, is the head of the Ministry of Health. .[7]
Two major pieces of Bhutanese legislation establish a framework for personnel and medicines. The Medical and Health Council Act of 2002 incorporates the Medical and Health Council as a legal entity to regulate medical schools, courses, and professional credentials.[8] The Medicines Act of 2003 establishes the Bhutan Medicines Board and Drugs Technical Advisory Committee. The Act authorizes several subsidiary organizations, including the Bhutanese Drug Regulatory Authority, Drug Testing Laboratory, and teams of Drug Inspectors. These agencies have rulemaking and law enforcement authority on drugs, medicines, and even price controls, but must operate within the laws of Bhutan.[9] Both pieces of legislation contain offenses germane to their subject matter, supplementing the Penal Code.[8]:VIII[9]:IX

January 22, 2015 Thursday

Get yourself some sit ups today or whatever you do to work the abs.

John chapter 13 - "As I have loved you so you must love one another" And it refers to  Rom. 12:15  "rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.  We have to care for one another.

On this day;
1998 - Stopped on my way home from work to tan.  I have the light deprivation thing, I think, so I used to go and get warm in a tanning booth once a week.  I think I did if I was going to Florida occasionally too,  just to get the blue tint out of my skin.  Haven't done that in years, it got a very bad rap after while.

1998 - Theodore Kaczynski pled guilty to federal charges for his role as the Unabomber. He agreed to life in prison without parole. While I tanned, I'll bet he wished he could tan that day, he don't see much sun anymore.  Is he still alive?

Parenting - Oh to be able to change one day in history.  Pray for the Montanez family, the Dad - Pedro was driving the children Stephan, Michael and Valencia to school when they were involved in an accident the other day.  The Dad - Pedro and the son Stephan were killed, Michael needs prayers in ICU and the Mom - Jennifer and Valencia will need prayers and support for a long time to come.

January 21, 2015 Wednesday

Get Started Weight Watchers Video.  Aerobics and weights, circuit training.  Not like Jillian.

Deuteronomy;  chapter 8 - Do Not forget the Lord.  It mentions that when people have in abundance they don't need the Lord and forget him.  Don't let that happen to you.  I always pray to the Lord to keep me close, I'm thinking it meant to keep me poor, and that's ok, I'd rather have the Lord.

On this day;
1995 - We must have had a group deal on tickets from St Pauls church to see the Vikings out at the Palace.  Nicole and I picked up Aaron and his girlfriend Michelle and met everyone there.  When we came out the roads were terrible.  We opted to spend the night at my friend Rosie's house which was very close.  What happened to the Vikings?

1995 - More than 6,000 people were killed when an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 devastated the city of Kobe, Japan. Wow!  in other news in another place - that's a lot of people. How sad. Here we were only worried about driving conditions.

Parenting - I think "what if" a lot.  If I didn't have Mom to ground me, what would I do?  I have a million ideas, and it isn't like I don't do a lot now.  Brian took Cameron to Greenfield Village yesterday and by the pictures it looks like they had a great time.  Brian is Cameron's uncle,  what a great thing to share time with a child.  I would Probably do more of that.

January 20, 2015 Tuesday

did some Kickin with Country line dancing with Denise this morning.  Boot Scootin Boogie!

1 Kings Chapter 19 - Elijah flees to Horeb.  Elijah is a prophet that has rubbed Jezebel wrong and had to flee for his life.  The Lord didn't throw down fire and brimstone to kill those that would hurt Elijah, he merely watched over him and sent angels with food.  God doesn't have to make a big scene for us to know He is there.  Loved doing this story with kids for VBS last summer.

On this day;
1992 - Nicole and I were supposed to go somewhere with Chris or maybe just to work at Quality,  But as it happens, Nicole was sick with a sore throat so we cancelled, stayed home and played Animal Bingo and Triominoes.  Later that day Mark came home sick with a sore throat also.  Who hasn't had that happen, especially this time of year.

1937 - Franklin Delano Roosevelt became the first U.S. President to be inaugurated on January 20th. The 20th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution officially set the date for the swearing in of the President and Vice President. Not very interesting like the State of the Union tonight, I'm thinking.

Parenting - I've been seeing on Facebook a lot of the young mothers going through what we have all been faced with.  Sick kids, keeping you up at night, keeping you home from work, missing time from school and cancelling plans.  It is inevitable.  I decided to make the most of the day, as I have seen some do and put those kids movies on, bring out the board games, stock up on chicken noodle soup and popsicles and make the best of the day.  Down time.  AND then your husband comes home.  Achoooooo!

Ha Bhutan:  Lets see some tourist attractions!

January 19, 2015 Monday

Pilates moves with a resistance ring.

John  chapter 7 - "Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them." By this he meant the Spirit.  How timely is this?

On this day;
1991 - Aaron's 13th birthday.  His Mom, Kathy, had a party for his birthday at Skateland, roller skating.  Well, I think they were all on roller blades now.  They had a good time, all the cousins, Sarah and Frankie and Nicole who was 6 and Rachelle who would have been 2 I think.  It was another great time that the families were combined and we always enjoyed it.  Now Aaron can take his own children to Skateland.

1996 - U.S. first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton was subpoenaed to appear before a federal grand jury. The investigation was concerning the discovery of billing records related to the Whitewater real estate investment venture. Interesting.

Parenting - I hope that this generation did not teach racism to their children but they probably do.  I'm pretty sure I didn't teach Nicole this, but she might have been exposed by other members of the family.  Life experiences happen, but we have to learn to isolate the incident and not apply it to an entire race of people.  God Bless Martin Luther King Jr and his work toward acceptance.  Today we should celebrate freedom from hatred for ALL people in the world.

Ha is situated in the west of the Sandalwood Kingdom near Sikkim in the Ha Valley. The major economic activity is rice production. It contains two Buddhist temples. Sounds a little sparce but I bet it is beautiful!

January 18, 2015 Sunday

A day of rest.

Psalm 139  vs 7 - 16  "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb."
I like to remember this.  My soul belongs to God.

On this day;
1981 - My friend Sandy called to tell me her Dad had died in a car accident.  I believe she had already lost her mom.  I am one of the few that still has a living parent, I am blessed.  I do rent her out if you need one.

1896 - The x-ray machine was exhibited for the first time. It doesn't show the soul, only God can see that.

Parenting - The news has been horrible.  A dead newborn found at a recycling center in Roseville, thought to be a woman that they know got rid of her newborn, but they can't find.  No, it's another woman's discarded baby.  Then there is the mother that had quads and then died, the babies are ok, but how will they be without a mother?  Makes you want to turn off the tv and not read the paper.

Bhuton - I like this place;
Bhutanese cuisine (Dzongkha: འབྲུག་ཟས་; Wylie: brug-zas) employs a lot of red rice (like brown rice in texture, but with a nutty taste, the only variety of rice that grows at high altitudes), buckwheat, and increasingly maize. Buckwheat is eaten mainly in Bumthang, maize in the Eastern districts and rice elsewhere. The diet in the hills also includes chicken, yak meat, dried beef, pork, pork fat, and lamb. Soups and stews of meat, rice, ferns, lentils, and dried vegetables, spiced with chili peppers and cheese, are a favorite meal during the cold seasons. Zow shungo is a rice dish mixed with leftover vegetables. Ema datshi, is a spicy dish made with large, mainly green chillies in a cheesy sauce, (similar to chili con queso), might be called the national dish for its ubiquity and the pride that Bhutanese have for it. Other foods include jasha maru (a chicken dish), phaksha paa (dried pork cooked with chillies, spices and vegetables (mainly turnips, greens or radish), thukpa, bathup, and fried rice. Cheese made from cow's milk are called datshi and are never eaten raw but used to make sauces. Zoedoe is another type of cheese made mainly in the east and is used to add to soups. Zoedoe is normally greenish in colour and smells awful. Other types of cheese are mainly western types like Cheddar and Gouda. Western Cheese is made in the Swiss Cheese Factory in Bumthang or is imported from India.
Popular snacks include momo (Bhutanese dumplings), shakam eezay, khabzey (dried fritters made with flour,water and sugar and deep fried), shabalay, juma (Bhutanese sausages marinated in spices), and noodles. The restaurants can serve Chinese, Nepalese and Indian foods and are very popular in the country.Dairy foods, particularly butter and cheese from yaks and cows, are also popular, and indeed almost all milk is turned into butter and cheese. Popular beverages include butter tea (called Suja), milk tea (called ngaja) black tea, locally brewed ara (rice wine), and beer. Spices include curry, cardamom, ginger, thingay (Sichuan pepper), garlic, turmeric, and caraway.  Sounds good!  I wonder if there are restaurants around?  Might have to make it ourselves.

Enjoy the day!  Make it memorable!
