I did pilates and then Nicole asked me to go to the gym with her.  She was ready to walk out the door, I had on my nightgown over my yoga pants with knee socks and my Put in Bay Zip up hoodie over the top.  I had to put the garbage out this morning and decided what I had on was warm and comfortable.  I politely declined the offer.

I have started singing a hymn each morning before I start my prayers.  It is a new habit I have developed.  Today it was America the Beautiful and coming right after Veteran's Day, very appropriate.  Romans 12:12  "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."  Good advice for this Monday morning.  We have so much to be joyful about!

1982  Yesterday I mentioned that my friends boat, in 1981, came in 3rd.  This year they won their class.  I had a lot of company at the house this day because Ty left his Cadillac here for me to drive, while they were in Key West.  On my way home on the night before we had a terrible rain storm.  I was coming home from work on 8 mile and the light at Dequindre was out and their was a female cop in the intersection directing traffic.  It was pitch black from the storm and probably an inch of water on the road.  I wasn't going very fast and the officer held up her hand for me to stop , along with the other 3 lanes.  I stopped but then the cop started waving wildly at me to come ahead, I was real confused until a car smashed into me and drove me through the intersection almost running over the poor cop who jumped out of the way.  I was so mad, I jumped out of the car and ran back to the car that hit me intent on punching them in the face.  It was an old man who's face had already been punched by the steering wheel, all bloody and he was crying.  I walked back to Ty's very badly damaged car.  But at least the boat won!

1982 - The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated in Washington, DC.

Hudson Bay Canada
Hudson Bay Lowlands are a vast wetland located between the Canadian Shield and southern shores of Hudson Bay and James Bay. Most of the area lies within the province of Ontario, with smaller portions reaching into Manitoba and Quebec. Many wide and slow-moving rivers flow through this area toward the salt water of Hudson Bay: these include the ChurchillNelson and Hayes in Manitoba, SevernFawnWinisk, Asheweig, EkwanAttawapiskat, and Albany in Ontario, and the HarricanaRupert and Eastmain in Quebec.[1] This is the largest wetland in Canada, and one of the largest in the world.[2] The region can be subdivided into three bands running roughly northwest to southeast: the Coastal Hudson Bay Lowland (a narrow band along the northern coast),[3] Hudson Bay Lowland (a broader band extending to slightly south of the Ekwan River),[4] and James Bay Lowland (all the rest of the southern/eastern lands, making up close to 50% of the total Lowlands area).[5]

Romans 15:13  "Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."  When someone wants to know why I go to church, what I get out of it and look at me like it's a joke, I hope I can remember this - "joy and peace in believing".  There is so much more, I am saved for life eternal by Jesus's death and resurrection to make a point, but I think people are only concerned with the here and now so joy and peace are a great place to start.  Think about falling asleep tonight knowing that God has you in his arms.

1981  As every year at this time the last offshore boat race of the season is happening in Key West.  My friend Chuck called me and said that they came in third in the final run, not bad for world competition, but he expected to win.  I guess we always go in for the win, but 3rd place paid well too.  I talked to Pat and Sherry this morning, thinking that they had came home because they called last night, but they called from Key West to find out what color and size shirt I wanted.  Lol, they sounded like they were still not home from the bar last night.  Some things don't change.

1840 - Sculptor Auguste Rodin was born in Paris. His most widely known works are "The Kiss" and "The Thinker."

Shores[edit]

The western shores of the bay are a lowland known as the Hudson Bay Lowlands which covers 324,000 km2 (125,000 sq mi). The area is drained by a large number of rivers and has formed a characteristic vegetation known as muskeg. Much of the landform has been shaped by the actions of glaciersand the shrinkage of the bay over long periods of time. Signs of numerous former beachfronts can be seen far inland from the current shore. A large portion of the lowlands in the province of Ontario is part of the Polar Bear Provincial Park, and a similar portion of the lowlands in Manitoba is contained in Wapusk National Park, the latter location being a significant polar bear maternity denning area.[22]
In contrast, most of the eastern shores (the Quebec portion) form the western edge of the Canadian Shield in Quebec. The area is rocky and hilly. Its vegetation is typically boreal forest, and to the north, tundra.
Measured by shoreline, Hudson Bay is the largest bay in the world (the largest in area being the Bay of Bengal).

It's Veteran's Day.  Boot camp would be a great workout today but my tape won't play.  Today let's think of all those young men and women that join the armed services and go through a rigorous training to get ready for conflict.  Think of how many people marched off to war in the best physical shape they ever were in only to be killed in action.  They worked out till they could drop into those army cots for a few hours sleep only to get up a few hours later and start all over.  Thank a vet today!

Proverbs 15:30  "A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones."  I like the whole idea of this - if you look happy and act kind and supportive to others you will feel better all over.  Hey!  let's give it a try.

1980  My friend Pam was awaiting the birth of her first son, that turned out to be Jon.  She was the first of my close friends to go down this path and her and I were the only ones that had children in my immediate group.  Now Jon has two sons of his own, Emmett and Jacob.  Life goes around and around and around - like the cheerio commercial.

1851 - The telescope was patented by Alvan Clark. In keeping with today's news he was probably spying on his neighbors.

Food Chain

Hudson Bay contains great quantities of nutrient salts and small crustaceans occupy the open waters, providing food for molluscs, starfish, sea urchins, worms and other invertebrates. Cod, halibut, salmon and polar plaice are the most common fish. Walrus, dolphins and killer whales live in the northern regions and polar bears migrate south to hunt seals among the ice. Some 200 species of birds including ducks, snow geese, gulls, swans, sandpipers, owls and crows gather on the coasts and islands.

Ok!  So I am able to play my DVDs on my laptop and still do the 5 I have left of those.  After 20 years of working out to these videos it is hard to adjust.  Always find another plan to keep your health.  Exercise is the most singular remedy to not growing old, I think!

1 Thessalonians 5:18  "In everything give thanks."  This is the month of Thanksgiving.  It isn't the only time of the year we should show thanks but this is a national reminder.  Thanking God for all He has given us is an everyday, every minute kind of thing.  Our lives, our families, our homes, our jobs, our church and of course our Savior Jesus the Christ is a good place to start. Oh and the cat.  God has a sense of humor too.

1979 This day reminds me that it isn't unusual to get snow at this time in November.  Mom was still working but Bob had moved up to Gaylord in their new house they built.  It took Mom and I 5 1/2 hours to get up to Gaylord, it didn't say snow - just bad roads.  It was normally a 3 1/2 or 4 hour drive.  On this day Mom and I went into town (which it really was in those days, not a city) for bolts for whatever project Bob was working on.  We went up to BJ's for dinner that night, a local water hole that served up a pretty good steak.  I didn't notice if it was still there or not.

1775 - The U.S. Marines were organized under authority of the Continental Congress. The Marines went out of existence after the end of the Revolutionary War in April of 1783. The Marine Corps were formally re-established on July 11, 1798. This day is observed as the birth date of the United States Marine Corps.  We salute our veterans of all branches!!

Polar bear walks on newly formed ice in early November at Hudson Bay.
The Hudson Bay region has very low year-round average temperatures. (The average annual temperature for Churchill at 59°N is −5 °C (23 °F); by comparison Arkhangelsk at 64°N with a similar subarctic climate in northern Russia has an average of 2 °C (36 °F).[20]) Water temperature peaks at 8–9 °C (46–48 °F) on the western side of the bay in late summer. It is largely frozen over from mid-December to mid-June when it usually clears from its eastern end westwards and southwards. A steady increase in regional temperatures over the last 100 years has been reflected in a lengthening of the ice-free period which was as short as four months in the late 17th century.[21]  Bundle up!!! and watch out for polar bears!

Did some laps in the church basement this morning before Bible study.  I have spent enough time in that church that it feels like home.  It is getting cold now and I'm not a fan of cold so it will either be the church gym or YMCA on the treadmill.  How is your exercise plan coming?  You know you feel better when you do and it helps to ward off the winter colds/flu and doldrums!

Romans 8:27  "Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God."   He being God, the Holy Spirit who prays for the saints (us) to keep us in God's grace.  We discussed the Spirituality of Lutheranism this morning in study.  Pastor doesn't like the term "spiritual".  I think, simply because it is over used in today's world.  I only think of the Holy Spirit when I think of Spirituality - not candles, incense and moonlit lakes.  There is a trend for people to get in touch with their inner selves - I suggest you let the Holy Spirit do that for you.

1978  Chris and I went to lunch at Miriam Parels.  She was a customer of ours at Quality and just the nicest lady you could ever meet.  She gave me a recipe that day for a fast sweet bread to make for unexpected visitors.  She said it was an old Jewish recipe - I still have it.  Somewhere.

1906 - U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt left for Panama to see the progress on the new canal. It was the first foreign trip by a U.S.president. Pretty sure it wasn't by Airforce One!

Hudson Bay Canada
HBC's trade monopoly was abolished in 1870, and it ceded Rupert's Land to Canada, an area of approximately 3,900,000 km2 (1,500,000 sq mi), as part of the Northwest Territories.[15]:427Starting in 1913, the Bay was extensively charted by the Canadian Government's CSS Acadia to develop it for navigation.[18] This mapping progress led to the establishment of Churchill, Manitoba as a deep-sea port for wheat exports in 1929, after unsuccessful attempts at Port Nelson.
Due to a change in naming conventions, Hudson's Bay is now called Hudson Bay.
The Northwest Territories (NT or NWT) (Frenchles Territoires du Nord-OuestTNOAthabaskan languagesDenendehInuinnaqtunNunatsiaqInuktitut: ᓄᓇᑦᓯᐊᖅ) is a territory of Canada. At a land area of approximately 1,144,000 km2 (442,000 sq mi) and a 2011 population of 41,462, it is the second-largest and the most populous of the three territories in Northern Canada.[7] Its estimated population as of 2016 is 44,291.[4] Yellowknife became the territorial capital in 1967, following recommendations by the Carrothers Commission.
The Northwest Territories, a portion of the old North-West Territory, entered the Canadian Confederation on July 15, 1870, but the current borders were formed on April 1, 1999, when the territory was subdivided to create Nunavut to the east, via the Nunavut Act and the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.[8][9] While Nunavut is mostly Arctic tundra, the Northwest Territories has a slightly warmer climate and is both boreal forest (taiga), and tundra, and its most northern regions form part of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
The Northwest Territories are bordered by Canada's two other territories, Nunavut to the east and Yukon to the west, and by the provinces of British ColumbiaAlberta, and Saskatchewan to the south.

I did some warm ups and stretches, including warrior.  Warrior must be done in perfect symmetry,  with you bent thigh level to the floor foot lined with the arch of the extended leg foot behind you.  Arms must be extended evenly from shoulders - perfect posture with your face looking out over arm of bent leg side.  Now take 5 deep breaths and try not to fall over.

Psalm 16:8-9  "I have set the Lord continually before me, because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.  Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices."  If you say that first verse while doing the Warrior, seeing the Lord at your extended hand, before you, it may help you to not be shaken.  That should make your heart glad!  Psalm 16 every time you do warrior!  Keeping from falling in two different ways. God is my warrior and I will be a warrior for God.

1977  I sold my little Austin Healey Sprite on this day.  I'm sure Pete wasn't too happy but he did get it started for the person that purchased it.  Pete put a lot of work into restoring and fixing that car up.  I think everyone should have a little sportscar at one time or another in their life although the way people drive today I'm not sure how safe it is to be driving something slightly larger than a kiddie car. I remember putting the top down on the car and taking my cat and dog (on leashes) in the boot for a ride to the dairy queen.  They would share a small cone, both licking at the same time.  I loved seeing Ziggy with his ears blowing in the wind in my review mirror and the cat hunkering down beside him. Did you travel with pets?

1805 - The "Corps of Discovery" reached the Pacific Ocean. The expedition was led by William Clark and Meriwether Lewis. The journey had begun on May 14, 1804, with the goal of exploring the Louisiana Purchase territory. Hey weren't these the guys that took a woman along so they wouldn't get lost?  Can you say Sacagawea?

Hudson Bay Canada

In 1668, Nonsuch reached the bay and traded for beaver pelts, leading to the creation of the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) which still bears the historic name.[14] The HBC negotiated a trading monopoly from the English crown for the Hudson Bay watershed, called Rupert's Land.[15]:4 France contested this grant by sending several military expeditions to the region, but abandoned its claim in the Treaty of Utrecht (April 1713).[16]
During this period, the Hudson's Bay Company built several factories (forts and trading posts) along the coast at the mouth of the major rivers (such as Fort Severn, OntarioYork Factory and Churchill, Manitoba). The strategic locations were bases for inland exploration. More importantly, they were trading posts with the indigenous peoples who came to them with furs from their trapping season. The HBC shipped the furs to Europe and continued to use some of these posts well into the 20th century. The Port of Churchill was an important shipping link for trade with Europe and Russia until its closure in 2016 by owner OmniTRAX.[17]  Progress through business!

Psalm 119:76-77  "Now let your unfailing love comfort me, just as you promised me, your servant.  Surround me with your tender mercies so I may live, for your law is my delight."  I understand this to remind us of the comfort of knowing the rules and the rewards for keeping them.  For our own purposes we are better when we don't push the limits of the law, which is designed to keep us safe.  This comes from our Father in heaven that sets the example for our parents and other law enforcers.  As we have seen in the paper and on the news many people don't have that basic fear of breaking the rules and the accompanying punishment.  God help those who need to be reminded.

1976  Pete and I went to the marina, probably to clean off the boat before it was pulled out for the winter.  We stopped by his parents house after that.  I was very fond of them.  Eric was German and Tatjiana was Estonian (Russian).  There house was very European in decor and in the way they lived and ate.  I enjoyed their customs and remembered after reading this that my cousin adopted a young boy from Russia and brought him here and then deserted him.  Think I will check with Konstantine and see how he is doing.

1917 - Russia's Bolshevik Revolution took place. The provisional government of Alexander Kerensky was overthrown by forces led by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. This might have been a reason that Tatjiana and her mother Xana had to leave Estonia as they were hierarchy.  They might have left in the early 1940's after communism spread.  Pete was born in Czechoslovakia as they made their escape.

Hudson Bay Canada

History[edit]

Canada, Routes of Explorers, 1497 to 1905
English explorers and colonists named Hudson Bay after Sir Henry Hudson who explored the bay beginning August 2, 1610 on his ship Discovery.[13]:170On his fourth voyage to North America, Hudson worked his way around Greenland's west coast and into the bay, mapping much of its eastern coast. Discovery became trapped in the ice over the winter, and the crew survived onshore at the southern tip of James Bay. When the ice cleared in the spring, Hudson wanted to explore the rest of the area, but the crew mutinied on June 22, 1611. They left Hudson and others adrift in a small boat. No one knows the fate of Hudson or the crew members stranded with him, but historians see no evidence that they survived for long afterwards.[13]:185
