August 19, 2014 Tuesday National Aviation Day Go for a fly!

Did some ballet with the Brit this morning.

Numbers chapter 9 - This is about the Israelites in the wilderness and God keeping their attention and changing it up for them occasionally.  The study writer ended with "God asks His children to follow the Leader".  That sums it up for me.  You need to read it.

On this day:
1995 - This was the last time I ever worked as scorer for a boat race.  Nicole and Norma and I went out on Bob K's boat.  It was a great time, but I had left the excitement for this kind of thing, behind.  I will always remember the thrill of the speed and the smell of the hot pits and the noise but prefer a couple beers and conversation with friends more now.
1909 - The first car race to be run on brick occurred at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We do love our racing!

Parenting - It takes a village.  I do agree with this.  I had finished dinner last night and went to find my phone in the bedroom, there was a text message from my neighbor that her son needed to be at the hs for band practice at 5:45.  I looked at the clock - 5:45.  I ran out the door with that same frenzy I had when Nicole was young, hollered to Dalton "hey lets go Dalton"!  He came over jumped in Nicoles car (last one in the drive)  and we RACED over to the high school.  Still racing.

Book Club - Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon.  Flash back to daughter Brianna, in current times, also falling in love with a Scot.  Gotta watch them Scots and their kilts.

Cairo Egypt -

Current Situation: Egypt’s Messy Transition

Egypt remains locked in a protracted process of political transition after the resignation of the long-serving leader Hosni Mubarak in February 2011. The country is deeply divided between Islamist and secular groups, while the Egyptian military remains the country's chief political broker and decision-maker.
The results of the first democratic elections held in 2011/12, won overwhelmingly by Islamist parties, were nullified, leaving Egypt with no elected state institutions. Egypt’s first democratically elected parliament in decades was dissolved in June 2012. The Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Morsi won the presidential elections in mid-2012, but he was deposed a year later through a combination of mass anti-government protest and a military coup. This legal vacuum has created a political tug-of-war between the military, the judiciary, and dozens of political parties vying for power.
Political uncertainty and anxiety over the future have generated ongoing political protest, labor strikes, deep mistrust between Islamist and secular parties, and Muslim-Christian tension in some parts of the country. Violence and criminal activities have been on the rise in the poorly-policed Sinai peninsula, where militant Islamist groups stepped up attacks on security forces. Good to know.

Enjoy the day!  Make it memorable!

August 18, 2014 Monday Discovery Day ??

Did some AM yoga.  Gotta rearrange the video's not enough yoga breaks between aerobics.

Revelation chapter 22 - the very last of the Bible and this from Jesus himself.  He will return for us and has a place for us with him.  Stand up for your faith and stay jubilant, you are loved.

On this day:
1984 - Mark and I took Aaron to the drive-in to see Gremlins and Ghostbuster.  He must have been 6 and what with the continuing Ghostbuster movies they were in our house for a long time.  Who doesn't recognize the theme song?
1587 - Virginia Dare became the first child to be born on American soil of English parents. The colony that is now Roanoke Island, NC, mysteriously vanished. Sounds like a case for the Ghostbusters.

Parenting - I was with my friend Judy yesterday and we were talking about people that we had been a mother to that we weren't actually birth mothers to.  Her nephew, at 50+ still calls and lets her know his flight arrived, and he is a US flight marshall.  I don't know a woman that has not been a mother to someone, even if she has never had children of her own.

Book club - Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon.  Jamie and Clair are on a new adventure up the east coast in America.  It is never boring.

Auguat 16, 2014 Saturday

Walked today, nice day for it, a little chilly so you walk faster to get home to that coffee.

2 Corinthians chapter 5 -  About, "God reconciled himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. "  Just a little hitch there.  Because you have been forgiven and have a new relationship with God, you should be happy enough about that to share it with someone else.  "Good news kept silent is no news at all."

On this day:
1977 - Elvis died.  If you are from that era, you know what a huge news item that was.  Even bigger then losing Robin Williams this week.  Elvis is still immortalized in a lot of places by a lot of people.
1829 - The "Siamese twins," Chang and Eng Bunker, arrived in Boston, MA. They had come to the Western world to be exhibited. They were 18 years old and joined at the waist. The media still feeds the public with all kinds of things, good and bad, mostly bad I'm thinking.

Parenting - I would have to believe that  publicity probably kept these twins alive and well fed for many years.  It seems like in China they would not have much of a future.  Some parents will go to the ends of the earth for their children and others, not so much.  For those of us that love our children seeing stories of abuse and neglect raises a host of emotions.  I have never heard of these men, Chang and Eng, but I would hope they had some joy and love in their lives.

Book Club - Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon.  If I start this my entire life goes on hold.  Decisions - decisions.
