Did some aerobics this morning, don't want to overdo it, have ballroom dance class tonight.  That is great exercise.  It doesn't have to be at a gym or even like I do with videos at home, anything you do that keeps you moving is beneficial.  Get moving!


1 Corinthians Chapter 6 - My brother David, who spent his life in a crib (16 years) that couldn't hear or see, probably never sinned, the rest of us need to thank Jesus Christ for his gift of forgiveness and salvation.


On this day: 
1977 - I ordered a pyramid.  It was delivered in the mail, it was a tent.  You were supposed to lay in it and meditate, which would.... ?  My brother Mark and I tried it, obviously it was not life changing or everyone would still have one in their house.  Anyone remember this?
1977 - Rookie Janet Guthrie set the fastest time on opening day of practice for the Indianapolis 500. Her time was 185.607.


Parenting - I love that their are so many babies on facebook these days.  So many of Nicole's friends are getting married and having children.  One of our cousins had twin boys.  It is such a great way to keep up with their growth and experiences.


Book Club - Mornings on Horseback - by David McCullough.  The whole family took a year and floated up and down the Nile in Egypt.  Very interesting.

There is evidence of human habitation in the area now known as Venezuela from approximately 15,000 years ago; leaf-shaped tools from this period, together with chopping and plano-convex scraping implements, have been found exposed on the high riverine terraces of the Rio Pedregal in western Venezuela.^[22] Late Pleistocene hunting artifacts, including spear tips, have been found at a similar series of sites in northwestern Venezuela known as "El Jobo"; according to radiocarbon dating, these date from 13,000 to 7,000 BC.^[23]
It is not known how many people lived in Venezuela before the Spanish Conquest; it may have been approximately one million,^[24] and in addition to today's indigenous peoples the population included groups such as the Carib, Auaké, Caquetio, Mariche, and Timoto-cuicas. The number was reduced after the Conquest, mainly through the spread of new diseases from Europe.^[24] There were two main north-south axes of pre-Columbian population; producing maize in the west and manioc in the east.^[24] Large parts of the llanos plains were cultivated through a combination of slash and burn and permanent settled agriculture.<sup>[24]

I took my friend Jan down to the Masonic Temple to pick up tickets for something she was attending.  Think about that.  I lived in Birmingham at the time and drove her all the way downtown to pick up tickets.  First of all, gas was much cheaper, we all had twice as many hours in the day as now, then drove her out to Sterling Hts where she lived. But the big one is THERE WAS NOT INTERNET then, you couldn't order them on line, omigosh, how inconvenient!

In 1937, the hydrogen-filled German dirigible Hindenburg burned and crashed in Lakehurst, N.J., killing 36 of the 97 people on board. Parenting - At book club last night we discussed a book, I didn't read, but will.  What parent allows their  14 or 15 year old daughter go out of state to find work?  I guess it was allowed back in the early 1900, when jobs were hard to find.  These particular girls found work at Radium Dial in Chicago.  The name of the book in Radium Halo.  It is a human interest read about how we will risks lives in unsafe working conditions to obtain money.  Book Club - Mornings on Horseback by David McCullough.  I am enjoying this book and the progress Teedie makes as a child to the great hunter he became. May 5, 2014 Cinco de Mayo

Get started with the girls from weight watchers, my video friends.  They never criticize or laugh at me when I miss steps.  Aerobic sets with weight intervals.  Easy start for Monday.  yea fish arms.


Jeremiah chapter 9 - All the brains, strength and wealth in this world, still puts you on the same page as the rest of us on that last day.  The study writer mentioned to remember to "give God the Glory".  When I would go to Bass Lake with the kids, camping for 4 days, I would wake them up with a rousing chorus of "Give God the Glory".  They loved it.  (lol).  "Rise and Shine and Give God the Glory Glory!"  Now you have it stuck in your head too!

1968 - In a weak moment I picked up my fiancée's wallet and looked through it.  I never did that before and haven't after.  I found some girls phone numbers in there and was absolutely livid.  He didn't remember they were in there and the one, he didn't even know who it was.  The worse thing was the breach of trust that happens when someone does that.  It's that dark twin that lives in us.


Parenting - That incident probably helped me to never do that with anyone after or my kids.  There are times and circumstances when parents might find it necessary to search a purse, drawer, car or room, if the circumstances are dire.  I think most parents have dealt with this at one time or another.


Book Club - Mornings on Horseback by David McCullough.  Teddie or Thee had asthma and was catered to and coddled through  his childhood.  This was interesting to me that they have connected this condition to be psychosomatic.  That most of his attacks happened on Sunday, he didn't like going to a church.  They also declared that most episodes are for the mother's benefit.

That's not good, take toilet paper if you are going there!

Exercised my right to praise God!


Pastors sermon this morning was about the walk to Emmaus when Jesus showed up after the crucifixion and was walking with his followers.  They did not recognize him.  It is a mystery.  But when they arrived and he broke bread with them, they knew him.  Would you recognize Him?


On this day:  2013
Last year this day was Saturday, and it was the Kentucky Derby.  I usually watch but never remember who won, and I didn't write it down.  Yesterday the winner was California Chrome.  It is so exciting to see with all the people and hats and hoopla.  I think I will put it on my bucket list, I might have to have a bucked to get in.


Parenting - I'm a bad parent.  My daughter, soon to be 29, stills fools around during church.  Her friend's father, made the teenage grandchildren stop fooling around, I'm sure he meant it to extend to my daughter as well.  The sermon sillies don't appear to be age related.


Book Club - Looks like a good Sunday afternoon to read Mornings on Horseback by David McCullough.

May 3, 2014 Saturday Kentucky Derby Day! Get a hat!

Kickin' with Country.  Denise, the cat and I.  Country line dancing in a small area with a cat that stretches out to full length with Denise calling out encouragement.  Get the picture?


Psalm 107 - shared with Mom, as I do everyday.  She can no longer read the small print.  It is good to share though.  The theme of this psalm is people in great trouble who were delivered by the Lord, says the study writer.  This could refer to any of us, right?  How often do we have to be reminded that the Lord is always with us?  A lot apparently. 


On this day:  2004
I took Mom to the oncologist.  She had surgery earlier in the year to remove a cancerous spot in her colon.  On this day the doctor told us that she was cancer free and did not need chemo.  It is the kind of news you want to hear.  I have many friends and family that I am praying for that have not heard this from their doctors....YET.

Parenting - Over the years, I notice when the kids were all young and were all over for dinner on Sunday.  One by one as they become teenagers, you notice the older ones are not there, having other more important places to be.  But don't worry, once they get older, settled have families, they come back for that Sunday dinner again.  Eventually, they have the dinner and we can go there, right?  Isn't that right?  Do you agree?  Do we get to go to their house on Sunday for dinner?  (JK)


Book Club - Mornings on Horseback by David McCullough.  Had some decent reading time last night.  The Roosevelt's took a year and went to Europe, Mom and Dad and the children, which included Theodore, or Thee has they called him.  He was an interesting child.  It is a great recount of their travels and what it was like traveling in the mid 1800's.

Pilates Ring, this is the trainer that says "stay motivated".  It is hard, but if you fall away, you can start up again. Maybe pick something different to keep you interest.  I need to get back to walking,


Ezra chapter 9 - This is an old testament book and talks about the Israelites living in place where their children are marrying outside the Israeli people and their faith.  We are past that, but still think that our choices separate us from God.  Just remember, we are doing the separating, not God.  He never leaves us.

It was in the 80's and I took Nicole and her friend Jamie to the pier fishing.  Now, doesn't that sound good?  Go fishing today, or at least find some water to sit and meditate by.
1994 - Nelson Mandela claimed victory after South Africa's first democratic elections.


Parenting - I think the word parenting is more a verb then a noun.  It is something that people do to care for, lead, love and enjoy someone else.  Our parenting can outreach our immediate family to those in our community and those of any age or differences.  I heard recently of a woman, that, after seeing a young boy who was around her grandsons ages, had lost his legs in a bombing in Afghanistan.  She reached across continents to pay for his care, his new legs and his education.  Now that's parenting.


Book Club - Mornings on Horseback by David McCullough, Theodore Roosevelt's childhood was very entitled.  His father married outside the accepted circle, a confederate bride during the civil war.  Did you know that?  Interesting information.

My massage therapist gave me a sheet of exercises to do everyday.  Actually a lot of them are incorporated in the many video's I do.  Some I try to commit to memory because you can do them anywhere when you think of them.  Well downward facing dog in the grocery store might not be a good idea, but the others maybe.


Matthew chapter 4 - about healing the leper.  The leper was sure Jesus could heal him, if he wanted to.  Jesus did want to.  Mom said she thinks there are still leper colonies out there.  Anyone know?


On this day:  1992
A lady named Eleanor had called me and said someone recommended me for housecleaning.  Well I hadn't really been doing that, but I agreed to go over and help her clean occasionally.  I didn't know this lady before this.  She really just wanted company and I ended up doing a little cleaning, but most of all spending a few hours chatting with her.  Her sister had lived with her and she hadn't been in her bedroom since she died (years before)  so she sent me in there.  It wasn't too horrible, and after a few visits she would come in with a bowl of cereal and sit in a chair and watch me and tell me about the things I was boxing up.  I'm sure I'm not the only person these things happen to, am I?


1992 - On the third day of the Los Angeles riots resulting from the Rodney King beating trial. King appeared in public to appeal for calm, he asked, "Can we all get along?" We can try!


Parenting - I might mention that on one occasion while I was at Eleanor's her daughter stopped in.  She informed me that her Mom abused her drugs and they were going to put her in a nursing home asap.  There is more to child/parent relationships then meet the eye.


Book club - Mornings on Horseback by David McCullough.  Good book, a little slow so far.
