Get Fit
If you missed going to the gym this morning or couldn't get started - go for a walk later.  Plan on getting some activity in today.  Plan to succeed.  I'm going for that walk.

Isaiah 40:6-11, 28-31 Our lives are short here on earth.  When you are young you believe you are immortal and as you get older you begin to realize you are not.  Isaiah tells us that like flowers we wither and die, why would he say that?  To make us sad?  To make us think we are worthless?  Why are all the elderly not screaming and crying because their time grows close?  Those of us with faith trust in the Lord to care for us.  What do those without faith do to comfort themselves? 


On this day:
2007 - Mom dropped me at work and kept the car.  She had a doctor appointment.  That was 8 years ago and a lot can happen in 8  years.  I had to take mom's keys away, she was having minor scrapes and bumps, so in her - and possibly someone else's best interest, she stopped driving.  She still misses it but now is in a wheelchair and won a race in the hallway at the nursing home the other day.  We will see where that leads.
1924 - Simon and Schuster, Inc. published the first "Crossword Puzzle Book." Mom spends most of her day doing crossword puzzles now.  Thanks to Simon and Schuster!


Parenting/Family - Nicole and I spent the afternoon yesterday cleaning the garage.  Sounds horrible but it is actually a rite of spring.  Her real objective is to be ready for that kegger on her birthday.  30 this year! phew!

     We pulled into the parked line of cars and the front of the car was pointed into the air.  Carol, Cathy and I all had our pajama on and pillows in the back seat.  Mr. and Mrs. Owens rolled down the windows and Mr. Owens pulled a silver box attached to wires into the car and hung it on his window.  He turned it up till you could hear some music and people talking about the food concession stand on it, like a radio.

Get Fit
Instead of the Pilates I opted for the Weight Watchers video.  Easy aerobics and weight circuit training.  It is going to be 70 here today so I am definitely going for a walk later!  Get your spring training started!

1 Corinthians 12:1-11  Concerning spiritual gifts.  Jesus said that when he left he would leave us the spirit to help us.  We are baptized into the spirit and so we are endowed with certain gifts from the spirit.  These gifts of wisdom, knowledge, faith, miraculous powers, prophecy, speaking in other languages and listening  are given to us to help one another in God's name.  Many people do good works without knowing the spirit, but the spirit knows them.  Use your gift to be kind to others.


On this day:
2004 - I had just recently brought Mom home from the hospital where she had colon cancer surgery.  My friend Marty was still in the hospital so I wanted to get back there and see him.  Mom's cousin Helmut (90+) came over to visit her and I picked up chicken dinners for them.  At the hospital Marty was in bad shape after an aneurism had shut down 1/2 his brain, on this day he had a second bleed and the family included me in the decision to shut down life support.  He was 49.   Life is tough.


1961 - About 1,400 U.S.-supported Cuban exiles invaded Cuba at the Bay of Pigs in an attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro. It was an unsuccessful attack.  Well maybe now we will have peace with Cuba.


Parenting/Family
Do you remember 0 Population growth?  We felt we were overpopulating the earth.  China has had restrictions on childbirth for a long time.  The earth makes its own decisions as well through natural disasters.  Americans have cut back the amount of children they have for many reasons, maybe financial being the number one reason.  Many men have had vasectomy's and women have had their tubes tied.  I\A good side of this is the gay couples and those who are childless not by choice, that adopt children.  There are those groups of people that have having many children to support their cause or for their own future continuation.  We are far from 0 population growth.  How do you feel about this?

     I’m not done.  It seemed to be a pattern.  We moved to Coyle Street in Detroit and discovered a neighbor on the next street had a little boy that was retarded like our little Donny.  Mom of course was drawn to the mother as they could share their grief in having damaged children.    There were also two other children, little girls, and I played with them.  I remember one night they took me to the West Side drive-in with them to see Oklahoma.  It was my first time at a drive-in movie and I loved it.

Revelation 22:1-5 -  John describes what he sees in heaven.  He can only use words and descriptivism that we understand here on earth.  Other places in the Bible say it is indescribable.  A six year old boy said that his great grandfather was in heaven fishing with Jesus because he knew where the best fishing holes were.  What do you want heaven to be?  Peace to you from our Father in heaven.


On this day;
2001 - I was on vacation and it was spring break for Nicole.  We didn't have money for a real vacation so we made the best of our time off.  Nicole still had soccer practice everyday but in the afternoon her friends Megan and Maddie came over and they played charades.  My job was to come up with subjects.  Fun game, lots of laughs.  Maybe you could revive it with your friends.  Get someone to do the subjects that won't be there so you can play too.


0069 - Otho committed suicide after being defeated by Vitellius' troops at Bedriacum.  Got anything?  Me either, look it up.

Parenting/Family -  It seems like crime is SO bad now.  So many families suffer because someone they love is killed or someone they love is the killer.  Yesterday I watched two families, one the victims and the other the perpetrators hugging each other sharing the pain.  The son killed his wife and two children.  Both families suffered tragedy.  It seems to be an overall product of our society these days.  What is it?  What is missing?

     There was a small body on the beach covered with a towel.  Randy had ridden his trike into the lake and it turned over and pinned him down.  He drowned there at the beach where we had been swimming not weeks before. He was the boy that laughed over cracker crumbs in our beds and slept with a teddy bear.

     The funeral procession was huge I was told.  I was not allowed to go Mom said it wasn’t a place for a kid.  She was right.

Matthew 26:36-46  Gethsemane  Jesus went here to pray before his arrest, beating and crucifixion.  His friends went with him.  There are some things that we have to do alone, even the disciples didn't stay awake with Jesus in his final hours.  It is a human fault.  But God, even though he doesn't stop things from happening to us, is always there through our hour of need.  Pray.


On this day;
2000 - The youth group from church went to Luther Haven in Detroit.  It was a senior facility run by the Evangelical Lutheran Church synod.  We took many dozens of eggs and made bowls of dye and put aprons or shirts over the people that gathered around the tables.  We passed out the eggs first.  When we came around with the dye we noticed a good many people had cracked, peeled their eggs and were now looking for the salt.  Lesson learned.


2000 - 600 anti-IMF (International Monetary Fund) protesters were arrested in Washington, DC, for demonstrating without a permit. I like to find something on the day I am talking about, but I don't have a clue what this means, do you?


Parenting/Family  Jesus should have had my friends.  My friends have been right with me for the last couple of months and my health issues.  They have prayed with me and for me, I'm sure God is tired of hearing it.  I thank God for their prayers and concern!  Pray for your friends.

    When we got home, not a few minutes later the phone rang and mom yelled and started crying.  We got rushed back out to the car and went to the beach at the swim club.  There were a lot of people already there.  I saw Randy’s trike on the beach and saw his friend in a grown- ups arms.  He was crying.

 Try this:  Abdominal Corset:   While in a sitting or standing position, draw your stomach in by tightening in your stomach muscles.  Attempt to draw your waist away from your waist band all the way around.  If you are doing this right, you should feel taller - and be able to breathe.  Hold for a count of 10.  Repeat 5 times.

1 Peter 5:1-11.  This is Peter telling people to keep the faith for all the right reasons.  "And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast."  We grasp this life tightly because it is what we know.  I believe the next life frees us from suffering, pain, worry and stress to live a better life.


On this day;
1997 - Was a Sunday and Nicole went with her friend Nick to Fraser Hockey Land.  I called around and everyone was busy so I watched TV and cross stitched all day.  This must have been the last time I ever cross stitched.   There is something calming about any kind of handwork, be it knitting or macramé or whatever.  The health professionals were having heart patients knit or sew as a relaxation/healing type thing for a while, maybe they still do.  Spring is not usually a good time to pick up this type of hobby, but you might think about it as a stress reliever.


1912 - The Atlantic passenger liner Titanic, on its maiden voyage hit an iceberg and began to sink. 1,517 people lost their lives and more than 700 survived.


Family/Parenting I was thrilled yesterday to find a great assisted living for mom and especially finding out she could afford it!  My brother/sister and I have been hard at work for a couple months trying to reach a good solution for mom.  Looks like we found it! Such a relief.

    A few weeks later, Mom, Adam and I were coming home from the grocery store.  It was raining and as we came along the muddy road by the swim club, Randy and his little friend were on tricycles pedaling along.  Mom stopped and rolled down her window.

     “Randy, you better turn around and go home, you are getting soaking wet” she told him.

     He nodded okay.  But they didn’t turn around.

Get Fit!
Started my week with yoga.  I need more yoga and meditating, that will be my next drive.


1 Samuel 23:1-5  this is not a well known story, but it is about one of the many, many times that David prayed to God.  Did David ever say, "it's not that important, I don't need God's help", or "I won't bother God with this He has more important things to think about".  I don't know, but maybe he did, I know I do.  David did pray here and God delivered victory into his hands.  Don't forget to pray even to remembering  to stop and pick up that prescription or whatever on the way home.  God likes to hear from you.


On this day;
1987  This isn't big news but I started thinking about this.  My husband Mark bought us a new television.  How many TV's have you bought over the years?  Who's decision was it to buy a new one?  I kept TV's until they just died, then I reluctantly went out and bought another.  It is different with guys (mostly).  They have to have the biggest flat screen that the furniture or wall will hold.  Am I right?  Who made the decision to buy your last TV and how big is it?  Does it have anything to do with the quality of the programing?  Don't start an argument over it, please.


1999 - Jack Kervorkian was sentenced in Pontiac, MI, to 10 to 25 years in prison for the second-degree murder of Thomas Youk. Youk's assisted suicide was videotaped and shown on "60 Minutes" in 1998. This is the reason I'm not excited about TV


Family/Parenting
I always cry at weddings and baptisms.  Our Sunday School Director had her little girl Zeralda baptized yesterday.  The Pastor looked like he was just going to keep holding her through the rest of the service.  She was absolutely angelic.  Those of us that practice faith are moved by the importance and intensity of baptism.  I weep too for the lack of interest people show for this important sacrament of the church.

     Especially, when we moved to Maceday Lake out in Pontiac, I remembered again.  Maybe I was six years old when Mom and Dad left me for a sleep over at Randy’s house.  He had twin beds in his room and his mom let us have graham crackers and milk in bed before we went to sleep.  I layed down and discovered I had a bed full of cracker crumbs.  Randy and I laughed.  He had a soft brown teddy bear that he slept with and I had a doll named Buster.  My mom had bought it for my brother Donny, but they wouldn’t let him have it at the hospital where he stayed.  Mom told me to take care of it for him and I did.  Randy and I played with our toys and finally fell asleep.

Ezekiel 29:1-9  God tells Ezekiel the prophet in Egypt to tell Pharaoh that He created the Nile and it did not belong to him and that He would kill him for thinking that way.  We do great damage to ourselves by not remembering the creator and giving him thanks for all we have.  It is not in your best interest to consider yourself your only benefactor.  You probably have a lot of people to thank for what you are and what you have.  Spend a little time with God today.


On this day;
1986 My friend Norma came over to see Nicole, more than me I think.  Nicole was not a year old yet.  She played with her and fed her all those precious things you do with an infant.  Norma and Nicole still love each other, she is Aunt Norma to Nicole.


1811 - The first colonists arrived at Cape Disappointment, Washington. There are very obvious things that could be said about this bit of factual news. 


Parenting/Family/Friends
Last night Don and I were over at Ty and Norma's for dinner.  We are still best of friends.  They never had children which I know was a disappointment to Norma, she would have been a great mom.  She has been a wonderful mothering person to everyone around her, including her niece Alexsis.  Nicole and Alexsis will be the ones to look out for her in her old age. (I have let them know).  Thank you Norma for the love and concern you have for me.

     When we lived on Packard in Detroit I was only 4 when the news was about a little boy named Joey.  It seems the kids had been playing in his basement.  Cowboys and Indians I guess.  Joey was an Indian and got tied to the post sitting on a small chair.  A chase ensued and the kids all ran up the stairs and out the door forgetting that Joey was tied up.  He apparently struggled with the ropes that held him until the chair slipped out and he strangled on the rope around his neck.  The neighborhood was all upset and it even made the news, and I never forgot it.
