1 Corinthians chapter 15  "For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ."
When Adam and Eve decided to eat of the tree of knowledge, of good and evil they became truly human and earned the right to die.  Ask yourself, why? did God put the tree in the garden in the first place?  Why did He give them that choice and how has it affected us ever since?  It is a great study to request of a Pastor.  But then remember that He also sent His Son Jesus Christ to give us back eternal life, because He loves us.

On this day
2010  I was still working at Clancy's and the boss' grand daughter Sheena was working the scale.  We got along great and I now see her and her husband and two children on Facebook all the time.  Mom was living with me and so was Nicole and Emilio.  Emilio was the son of friends of mine, who, just couldn't get his life right.  We were so hopeful at this time as he went to Lansing to get a physical for National Guard on this day.  Nicole packed up and went to Chicago for a few days.  Life was busy.

1815 - Napoleon began serving his exile when he arrived at the island of St. Helena. I wonder why exiled?  I should read more history.

Beverages[edit]

A traditional billycan on a campfire, used to heat water.
Billy tea is the drink prepared by the ill-fated swagman in the popular Australian folksong "Waltzing Matilda". Boiling water for tea over a camp fire and adding a gum leaf for flavouring remains an iconic traditional Australian method for preparing tea, which was a staple drink of the Australian colonial period.[1]
The nation also has a longstanding dairy industry (virtually from colonisation) and today produces a wide variety of cheesesyoghurtsmilkcream, and butter products. Australians are high consumers of dairy products, consuming (on average) some 102.4 L of milk per person a year (in part is due to its quality-coffee culture), 12.9 kg of cheese, 3.8 kg of butter (a small reduction from previous year, largely for dietary purposes) and 7.1 kg of yoghurt products.[21]
The chocolate and malt powder Milo, which was developed by Thomas Mayne in Sydney in 1934 in response to the Great Depression, is mixed with milkto produce a popular beverage. In recent years, Milo has been exported and is also commonly consumed in Southeast Asia even becoming a major ingredient in some desserts produced in the region.[22]

1 Corinthians chapter 13  "Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude."  Love is the power we are born to, the fuel of our lives, it is that which the universe is based on.  I believe that when God created everything from nothing he used the power of His great love for this creation and all that is on it from beginning to end.  We are created from love.  What we create will end but God's love is eternal and also for those who believe.  We are the descendants of His love.

On this day
2009  It was a Sunday and after church my neighbor Ty came over and we sat in the driveway and solved the worries of the world over a beer.  Nicole was on her way home from camp and so I was preparing food and getting the BBQ gas refilled so I would be ready.  I always grill more when Nicole is home.  Then I sat in the yard with my feet in the little plastic pool to wait.  The little girl next door, Keyanna came over and sat with me and we splashed each other.  What a perfect Sunday afternoon.  And, my Mom was here as well.  Yep perfect.

1842 - In New York City, the U.S. government took over operations of the City Despatch Post. This was the first congressionally authorized local postage delivery. And that is why our postage is .50 a stamp.

Development of modern Australian cuisine[edit]

Chinatown, MelbourneMulticulturalism has contributed to the development of a diverse local cuisine in Australia.
Following the pre-colonial periodBritish colonisers began arriving with the First Fleet of ships at Sydney harbour in 1788.[14] The diet consisted of "bread, salted meat, and tea, with lashings of rum (from the West Indies, but which was later made from the waste cane of the sugar industry in Queensland)."[15] The British found familiar game in Australia including swangoosepigeon and fish, but the new settlers often had difficulty adjusting to the prospect of native fauna as a staple diet.[1]
After initial difficulties, Australian agriculture became a major global producer and supplied an abundance of fresh produce for the local market. Stock grazing (mostly sheep and cattle) are prevalent throughout the continent. Queensland and New South Wales became Australia's main beef cattleproducers, while dairy cattle farming is found in the southern states, predominantly in Victoria. Wheat and other grain crops are spread fairly evenly throughout the mainland states. Sugar cane is also a major crop in Queensland and New South Wales. Fruit and vegetables are grown throughout Australia[16] and wheat is a main component of the Australian diet.[17] Today there are over 85,681 farm businesses in Australia, 99 percent of which are locally owned and operated.[18]
Barbecued meat is ubiquitous with Modern Australian cuisine, though it is estimated that more than 10% of Australians are now vegetarian.[19][20]

1 Corinthians chapter 13  "If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal."  If I am not telling you things for your faith that build you up and support your love of Christ than I might as well not speak at all.  We are called to share our faith with others - for their good and peace and joy.  If our words are not working, and our actions are not a reflection of Christ's love then we very well may be doing harm to your faith.  If all I say is not based in the love that God sent us in his Son then I'm a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

On this day
2007  There was a time when I really enjoyed the construction business and how well they would do and get excited about the big jobs they would get.  I mentioned that we had a big haul to Hillcrest on this day.  They were turning the property into condos.   It had been a huge golf course with a big building that they used for weddings and parties.  As a matter of fact my high school graduation party was there.  We had gone to the Shepherds Inn for dinner prior to the dance.  All these years ago and I remember my dress, my date and many details of the party.  But on this day in 2007 - I had the Youth group at church.  Big difference.

1877 - Thomas Edison wrote to the president of the Telegraph Company in Pittsburgh, PA. The letter stated that the word, "hello" would be a more appropriate greeting than "ahoy" when answering the telephone. I found this pretty funny.

Indigenous Australian bush food[edit]

Bush tucker (bushfoods) harvested at Alice Springs Desert Park.
Indigenous Australians have lived off the often unique native flora and fauna of the Australian bush for over 60,000 years.[5] In modern times, this collection of foods and customs has become known as bush tucker.
It is understood that up to 5,000 species of Australian flora and fauna were eaten by Indigenous Australians.[6] Hunting of kangaroowallaby and emuwas common,[7] with other foods widely consumed including bogong mothswitchetty grubslizards and snakes.[8] Bush berries, fruits, and nuts were also used, including the now widely-cultivated macadamia nut, and wild honeys were also exploited.[1] Fish were caught using technologies such as spears, hooks and traps; in some areas, the construction of complex weir systems allowed the development of forms of aquaculture.[9]
Resource availability and dietary make-up varied from region to region and scientific theories of bush tucker plants being spread by hand have recently emerged.[10] Food preparation techniques also varied, however a common cooking technique was for the carcass to be thrown directly on a campfire to be roasted.[11]
Native food sources were used to supplement the colonists' diet following the arrival of the First Fleet in Botany Bay in 1788.[12][13]  YUM!

1 Corinthians chapter 9  "Do you not know that in a race the runners all compete, but only one receives the prize?  Run in such a way that you may win it."  They are likening a foot race to life here, I think - with the message being our life in faith.  Nicole and 23 others are running a race, Ragnar to raise money for children to attend camp in the summer. So, although they are running the race, the people who get the scholarships are the winners.  Now that is Jesus' kind of race.

2004  I'm still amazed that when I was working and it was Saturday I would get up, take a long walk before enjoying a cup of coffee.  On this day after breakfast, Mom and I went to the bank and then to Pete and Frank's.  That was a market in Eastpointe that had fruits and veggies and a deli.  Just a small family place that we really liked.  Not enough of us liked it and it folded.  Then, when we got home I cleaned the house, fertilized the plants and cut the lawn.  Oh, what I would give for that energy back.  Oh and after dinner I dyed my hair - a chore unto its own.  It reminds me how important the exercise first thing in the morning is.

The Australian Shepherd, often known simply as the "Aussie", is a medium-sized breed of dog that was, despite its name, developed on ranchesin the United States during the 19th century.[3][4][5] There is disagreement regarding the exact history of the breed prior to its arrival in the United States, and thus no official consensus on the origin of its name or association with Australia.[6]
They are similar in appearance to the popular English Shepherd and Border Collie breeds, and research has found that Australian Shepherds and Border Collies are closely related to each other; both the Border Collie and Australian Shepherd are slightly more distantly related to other kinds of Collies and to Shetland Sheepdogs.[7]
Australian Shepherds rose in popularity with a boom in Western riding after World War II.[8] They became known to the general public through rodeoshorse shows, and Disney movies made for television.
For many years, Aussies have been valued by stockmen for their versatility and trainability. While they continue to work as stock dogs and compete in herding trials, they have earned recognition in other roles due to their trainability and eagerness to please and are highly regarded for their skills in obedience.[9] Like all working breeds, Aussies have considerable energy and drive and usually need a job to keep them occupied. They often excel at dog sports such as dog agility and frisbee and are also highly successful as search and rescue dogs, disaster dogs, detection dogsguide dogsservice dogs, and therapy dogs. They are considered the 17th-most popular dog breed in the United States.[10]

1 Corinthians chapter 3  "What then is Apollos?  What is Paul?  Servants through whom you came to believe, as the Lord assigned to each."  We are no less than Apollos  or Paul.  We are commissioned to the same work of gathering the lost sheep for the Lord.  We are assigned also to reach out through words and/or actions to be disciples here to bring people to Christ.  In whatever you do - feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, housing the homeless, teaching Sunday School or whatever, just know you are doing God's work the same as Apollos, Paul and all the disciples before you - it is work you will never regret.

2003  It was super hot this week, I picked up Subway on the way home and then Nicole and I went to Bed Bath and Beyond for college stuff.  Mom came over after we got back to see all the dorm things Nicole got.  We sat outside for a while, probably enjoying the short time we had before Nicole went off to Albion college.  This was a hard move for both of us, but we made it.  The next day was when the power crashed all over the north east US and Canada.

Australian cuisine

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to search
Australian cuisine refers to the food and cooking practices of Australia and its inhabitants. As a modern nation of large-scale immigration, Australia has a unique blend of culinary contributions and adaptations from various cultures around the world, including Indigenous AustraliansAsiansEuropeans and Pacific Islanders.
Indigenous Australians have occupied Australia for some 65,000 years, during which they developed a unique hunter-gatherer diet, known as bush tucker, drawn from regional Australian flora and fauna. Australia became a collection of British colonies from 1788 to 1900, during which time culinary tastes were strongly influenced by British and Irish migrants, with agricultural products such as beef cattlesheep and wheat becoming staples in the local diet. The Australian gold rushes introduced more varied immigrants and cuisines, mainly Chinese, whilst Australia's post-war multicultural immigration program led to a large-scale diversification of local food, particularly under the influence of Mediterranean and East and South Asian Australians.[1]
Australian cuisine in the 21st century reflects the influence of globalisation, with many fast-food restaurants and international trends becoming influential. Organic and biodynamic foods have also become widely available alongside a revival of interest in bushfood.[2] Australia has become famous for the high quality of its exports, with major agricultural industries including cattle and calveswheatfruit and nutsvegetablesmilksheepand lambs (for meat and wool), poultrybarleycanola.[3] The country is also well regarded for its locally-made winebeer and soft drinks.
While fast food chains are abundant, Australia's metropolitan areas have famed haute cuisine and nouvelle cuisine establishments that offer both local and international foods. Restaurants whose product includes contemporary adaptations, interpretations or fusions of exotic influences are frequently termed Modern Australian.[4]  now I'm hungry!

1 Corinthians chapter 2  "When I came to you brothers and sisters, I did not come proclaiming the mystery of God to you in lofty words or wisdom."  I'm afraid the Christian church would have failed in those years had that been the method the Disciples had used.  Our God comes to his people in the way we can accept Him.  He reaches us thru love and the simple understanding that if we believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ that we are saved and belong to Him.  The basic Gospel is John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."  There is, of course more to learn but if you believe in that one statement the rest makes more sense and comes to you easier.

On this day
2002  After work my day was just beginning.  Nicole had basketball practice and a sports check up.  This would be her senior year starting up and school activities were ramping up as well.  I had to go over to the A field concession stand to get it cleaned up for the coming year.  I was on the Mom and Dad club responsible for all the concession stand stuff.    After that I stopped at Karen Mathis' house for a jewelry party.  Gotta make room for some fun, ya know!
