Revelation chapter 7  "After this I looked and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands."  I  can't help but think how wonderful this would be - to stand with all the different people of the earth and sing "Holy, Holy, Holy" to our God.  I was emotional when they used to sing the Coca Cola song - all the different faces of people because of a drink - imagine the mess I'd be in heaven seeing this great multitude praising the Lord.  I can't wait.

On this day
1985  I was getting the hang of this motherhood thing.  Nicole woke up at 8 am and then went down for a short nap later.  I used that time to do a facial and take a shower.  I could clean house with Nicole, I simply put her in whatever room I was cleaning and she was entertained by my singing and enjoying my work.  At 6 months she couldn't get away so she was a captive audience to my silly songs etc.  I think the key is to never let them feel that you were trying to avoid them or not be with them, that is when they start getting that separation anxiety.  Nicole, of course experienced that as well, in Sunday School, but not for long, after while I couldn't find her in church.  Hidink she called it.

1985 - Former U.S. Navy intelligence analyst Jonathan Jay Pollard was arrested after being accused of spying for Israel. He was later sentenced to life in prison.  wonder if he is still in prison. Nope, paroled in 2015,

Itagui Colombia

Pre-Columbian era

Owing to its location, the present territory of Colombia was a corridor of early human civilization from Mesoamerica and the Caribbean to the Andes and Amazon basin. The oldest archaeological finds are from the Pubenza and El Totumo sites in the Magdalena Valley 100 kilometres (62 mi) southwest of Bogotá.[19] These sites date from the Paleoindian period (18,000–8000 BCE). At Puerto Hormiga and other sites, traces from the Archaic Period (~8000–2000 BCE) have been found. Vestiges indicate that there was also early occupation in the regions of El Abra and Tequendama in Cundinamarca. The oldest pottery discovered in the Americas, found at San Jacinto, dates to 5000–4000 BCE.[20]

I am astounded at what I don't know.

Revelation chapter 7  "After this  I saw four  angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth so that no wind could blow on earth or sea or against any tree."  Does this verse conger up scenes from a sci-fi movie you have seen?  Maybe a lot of what they have created in sci-fi they have taken from the Bible.  It is exciting to see in a movie created in Hollywood but it is a little terrifying to read in the Bible.  God has had this power for eternity, wouldn't you think?  I mean he flooded the earth didn't he?  He could end us at anytime, but has not.  He choose to save us from our sins (which is a lot) by the sacrifice of His Son so that we can live eternally with Him.  What a great God!

On this day
1984  Andy and Alice were married in February, Mark and I were married in April and I found out I was pregnant in September.  My brother Mark had moved up north with Mom in Gaylord but on this day they came down to spend Thanksgiving down here.  Mark and I planned on visiting both his parents and Andy's house for Thanksgiving but that isn't what happened.  When families expand you have to make decisions about where you will spend the holiday, right?  Many families take turns - your family this year, my family next.  We manage somehow to keep peace, well most of the time.  How do you handle the upcoming holidays?

1818 - Simon Bolivar formally declared Venezuela independent of Spain.  It seems logical that big countries like the USA, Brazil, Venezuela would separate from small ruling countries doesn't it?

Itagui Colombia

Etymology

The name "Colombia" is derived from the last name of the navigator Christopher Columbus (ItalianCristoforo ColomboSpanishCristóbal Colón). It was conceived by the Venezuelan revolutionary Francisco de Miranda as a reference to all the New World, but especially to those portions under Spanish law (by then from the Mississippi River to Patagonia). The name was later adopted by the Republic of Colombia of 1819, formed from the territories of the old Viceroyalty of New Granada (modern-day Colombia, Panama, Venezuela, Ecuador, and northwest Brazil).[18]
When Venezuela, Ecuador, and Cundinamarca came to exist as independent states, the former Department of Cundinamarca adopted the name "Republic of New Granada". New Granada officially changed its name in 1858 to the Granadine Confederation. In 1863 the name was again changed, this time to United States of Colombia, before finally adopting its present name – the Republic of Colombia – in 1886.[18]
To refer to this country, the Colombian government uses the terms Colombia and República de Colombia.

Revelation chapter 6  "For the great day of wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"    This end of times book was explained to me as a message to the people of that age, but it is still a good message to us.  As a reminder that our hope is in Jesus Christ who died for our sin and set us free from evil, we are saved from the end times.  Our future is secure with God through his son and our savior.  You should know that our God that created the earth and all that is in it can also take it all away.  But!  take heart it also describes the beautiful, serene place that God's children all go when they die in Revelation.

On this day
1983  My house was full.  Andy and Alice were still living here, my friend Tom from work had a room here and Mark my future husband was here a lot.  My brother Mark got kicked out of his girlfriends house, as can happen, but he was devastated at losing her 3 year old son that he cared for while she worked, and (she) used drugs.  He was in bad shape, his diabetes and emotional being were in terrible shape.  I went to the state for help as he had no regular income and by chance found a home in Utica ran by some wonderful people that would take him in for a  small allowance from the state and help from my brother Andy and I.  So on this day we packed up what few belongings Mark had left and moved him to the Perkins home.  My heart was broken that his life was so sad and empty and after years of trying, I couldn't fix it.

1863 - U.S. President Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address as he dedicated a national cemetery at the site of the Civil War battlefield in Pennsylvania.  Republican presidents have sure changed.

Itagui Colombia
Colombia has the second-highest biodiversity in the world[13] and is one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries; its territory encompasses Amazon rainforesthighlandsgrasslandsdeserts, and islands and coastlines along both the Atlantic and Pacific (the only country in South America).
Colombia is the only NATO Global Partner in Latin America.[14] It is part of the CIVETS group of leading emerging markets and a member of the UN, the WTO, the OAS, the Pacific Alliance, an associate member of Mercosur and other international organizations.[15] Colombia's diversified economy is the third largest in South America, with macroeconomic stability and favorable long-term growth prospects.[16][17]
Well this comes as a surprise to me.

Revelation chapter 1  "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."  We humans only consider the time we have on earth and maybe the time in history that we have been taught and wonder about those years to come and what will be.  God has been forever and will never not be.  The beginning and the end.  John relayed this information in Revelation to give us an idea of what is to come.  If our God can make a world that we love and are so in awe of and care so much about - can you imagine what HIS world offers?  Our words cannot express, although John tries to explain what the angel told and showed him about our heavenly home, what we have to look forward to.  I'm sure it surpasses what we have here - believe.

On this day
1979  It was a Sunday and I put on a roast or something to cook for dinner.  Mom, Mark and his friend Keven, came over for dinner in the afternoon.  My buddy Doc called after duck hunting and wanted to go to Sindbad's for lunch as usual but I had to decline.  Pete's grandmother Xana called me during the day, I never said goodbye to a family.  They must have left after dinner because I went and played racquetball later with Diane, Bonnie and Joan.  Life has always been busy.  I loved racquetball till I taught Nicole how to play.........

1865 - Samuel L. Clemens published "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" under the pen name "Mark Twain" in the New York "Saturday Press."  Mine will be Come Get These Memories of the Sixties in 2015.

Colombia
Colombia is ethnically and linguistically diverse, with its rich cultural heritage reflecting influences by various Amerindian civilizations, European settlement, forced African labor, and immigration from Europe and the greater Middle East. Urban centres are concentrated in the Andean highlands and the Caribbean coast.
Colombia has been inhabited by various American Indian peoples since at least 12,000 BCE, including the MuiscaQuimbaya, and the Tairona, along with the Inca Empire that expanded to the southwest of the country. Spaniards arrived in 1499 and by the mid-16th century annexed part of the region, establishing the New Kingdom of Granada, with Santafé de Bogotá as its capital. Independence from Spain was achieved in 1819, but by 1830 the Gran Colombia Federation was dissolved, with what is now Colombia and Panama emerging as the Republic of New Granada. The new sovereign state experimented with federalism as the Granadine Confederation (1858), and then the United States of Colombia (1863), before the Republic of Colombia was finally declared in 1886. Panama seceded in 1903, leading to Colombia's present borders. Beginning in the 1960s, the country suffered from an asymmetric low-intensity armed conflict and political violence, both of which escalated in the 1990s. Since 2005, there has been significant improvement in security, stability, and rule of law.[12]  Good to hear instead of what the biased news usually reports.

Revelation chapter 1  "The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place; he made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who testified to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw."  The word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ, is what I think of today.  The Bible - those books that were given through Moses and the prophets who wrote down the messages and lessons and read them to the people of God who remembered them.  They kept them, memorized and passed them down verbatim to the following generations.  Then Jesus came and spoke to all of the people and they listened and shared His words with others and finally all was kept and collected and memorized and shared in community to form the New Testament.  Our Bible is the Word of God, shared by Angels and those believers that felt compelled to share so that now, after all these years we still can hear the Word of God - our Triune God, Father Son and Holy Spirit, who is and always was and learn what God wants us to know - His great and abiding Love for our future with Him.

1978  I worked the Apartment and Condo Show down at Cobo Hall for Quality.  I really enjoyed doing these things, not sure how effective I was but it was always interesting.  This year we had shared a booth space with Jerry Sensoli, who sold jewelry, etc.  His guy Jim was working their side of it and he and I became quick friends.  Actually, condos were just catching on in the area and so we were taking advantage of the huge decorating themes going on as we were in the art and framing business.  After the show on this Friday night, Jim and I went to Frank's bar for a burger and beer.  The job had its perks.

1796 - Catherine the Great of Russia died at the age of 67.  Seems sad to die at such a young age when you are thought of as great.

Colombia is bounded on the north by the Caribbean Sea, the northwest by Panama, the south by both Ecuador and Peru, the east by Venezuela, the southeast by Brazil, and the west by the Pacific. Location of Colombia (dark green) in South America (grey)  I'm always amazed at where exactly these places are in concept to where I am.  In this case I find that Colombia is directly south of Michigan/Ohio etc.  And covers quite a large area.  I really enjoy these travels.

Hebrews chapter 13  "For here we have no lasting city, but we are looking for the city that is to come."  At my age, I may be looking harder for that city to come, but for those younger the work to share the Gospel is greater, and making this life better for those we love, is the work.  That is not to say that I am off the hook, we are always called to share the Gospel.  I see great things happening for this generation, for making a better world for the community and reaching those who need to be reached.  I sense an awakening to make the world a better place for everyone and everything.  Better awareness should always be coupled with thanks and praise to God for making us more knowledgeable and giving us the resources to act on.  Jesus is at work now as he was then.

1977  Pete and I had a less than perfect relationship, always at odds with each other.  When you live your life that way it effects everyone else around you.  Like this day, I had lunch with Les and was supposed to have dinner with my ex husband Don - but cancelled dinner with Don because Pete made a play to reconcile our latest disagreement over dinner.  When I got home I called Pam and hashed the whole thing over with her and she gave me her best advise as usual -  and Pete moved back in the next day.  Where is that emoji with the 😕 yep confused face!  I was 30, you would think I' know better.

1871 - The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) was first chartered in the State of New York.  This is a powerful group, not only because they are armed.

The British Embassy in Colombia, with the backing of the Foreign Office’s Travel Aware platform, launched last month a campaign to make sure British citizens take care – and are risk-aware – when visiting popular destinations in the country.
With a manual full of tips and recommendations on how to be safe in major cities and rural destinations, the campaign #BritsInColombia is an important UK government initiative that regardless of nationality, all tourists should follow. With the slogan “A little local knowledge goes a long way,” the 20-page pocket guide tells Britons what many ex-pats living in Colombia may already know, but for outsiders is a revelation, such as layered clothing to deal with Bogotá’s fast-changing weather.
According to UK Ambassador Colin Martin-Reynolds, the idea behind publishing this guide is to help strengthen bilateral relations and change perceptions. “We believe that if British people come to Colombia and have a great time, without becoming consular cases, they will go back and spread the work, creating increased opportunities for investment and cultural links,” explained ambassador Martin-Reynolds.
This campaign comes after identifying a surge in travelers and diversification of destinations within Colombia as a result of the signing of the peace agreement with the FARC guerrilla in 2016. Colombia’s migration authority, Migración Colombia, estimates there are 3,500 British residents in the country, and 4,400 visitors at any time, totaling 53.000 per year.  Good info for Americans too.

Hebrews chapter 13  "Let mutual love continue.  do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it..."  I have had some occasions that I wondered if I had been "visited", have you?  It wasn't Gabriel or Michael in bright white clothes that glowed like the sun, they were regular looking people, that after they left - I wondered, were they?  The fact is we should treat all people with love and kindness - just in case.

On this day
1976  Was a Monday and I worked, Sue was off sick - I don't really remember Sue, but she was apparently taking MY favorite day to take off.  The boss was working at the Orchard Mall store and Andy stopped by the shop to see me.  I was, as usual, working two jobs and when I went to the Scotch and Sirloin to cover the hat check (which was a profitable job, but not on Monday) I found out that Waynette had been layed off the previous week.  She had bought her own home and moved out so  I'm sure this was traumatic for her, but we were not talking at the time, as happens with friends, regretfully.  My boyfriend Pete was in Milwaukee (business) and called at 3 am.  Probably to check on me but I wondered what he had been up to till 3 in Milwaukee on a Monday night. Oh to be young again!  The drama, the heartbreak!  lol

1864 - Union Gen. William T. Sherman and his troops began their "March to the Sea" during the U.S. Civil War.  Only 155 years ago, seems like it should have been longer, doesn't it?

The reservoir filling the Cauca River valley behind the Hidroituango Dam, Antioquia, Colombia, October 3, 2019
The lower bowels of the Hidroituango hydroelectric dam, four hours outside of Medellín, Colombia, are generally reached through tunnels saturated with stale petrichor and air that grows thicker with every step downward. Tunnel walls shift from gray to mud-colored on the descent, and warm drops of water fall from the craggy roof. For eight months, these tunnels and chambers were the conduit for Colombia’s second largest river, the Cauca, and when I visited in October, the scars of the river’s visitation were evident in concave sections of the walls where eddies of water had abraded hollows. Workers were busy clearing sections where debris had collected during the water’s course.  You can read more about this in Colombian current news.  Beautiful country!
