November 7, 2016 Monday #warmup#heavenismyhome#electionstress#poetsheaven

Slow start Monday, Pilates ring.  Don't judge me, it is an easy way to start the week, kind of a warm up to the more industrious type of work out later on.

John 18:10-14 & 14-37 - The disciples wanted a war here on earth to support Jesus' cause.  He reminded them that this is not his kingdom.  Our kingdom is not here either.  The study writer said this "Most of us hope for good government.  We vote, we serve, and we speak out for causes we believe are fair and just.  But political solutions remain powerless to change the condition of our hearts."  Good advise on this Monday before the election to keep in mind.

1996 - an omen - It was election day and Bill Clinton was re-elected to the white house.  20 years ago.

1874 - The Republican party of the U.S. was first symbolized as an elephant in a cartoon by Thomas Nast in Harper's Weekly.   Equal coverage.

Tomás de Mattos Hernández (October 14, 1947 – March 21, 2016) was a Uruguayan writer and librarian. Being from Tacuarembó, de Mattos was one of the relatively few contemporary Uruguayan writers from the north of the country.
As a librarian, de Mattos also served as the director of the National Library of Uruguay.[1]  I see a definite trend here.  I feel like this is a Uruguayan Soho.

Psalm 110 vs 7 "He will drink from a brook along the way, and so he will lift his head high"  The Bible tells us, often, that if you stay with God, have life and communion with him, he will save you for the long run.  He wants to be with you for life and provides for you.You can feel uplifted when he gives you the drink of cold water you need to sustain you.

1994 - I didn't miss much time from work, but I thought I had the flu so I stayed home, so did Nicole.  We must have healed up because we went to school later to pu a fundraiser and then I had a group over from church for Bible study.  We called the group the Nite Lites.  I have no memory of this.  Couldn't have lasted long.  Start up a group!  you can use this name - I allow it!

1851 - Charles Henry Dow was born. He was the founder of Dow Jones & Company. Still around.

Mario Orlando Hardy Hamlet Brenno Benedetti Farrugia[1] (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈmaɾjo βeneˈðeti]; 14 September 1920 – 17 May 2009),[2] known as Mario Benedetti, was an Uruguayan journalistnovelist, and poet as well as being an integral member of the Generación del 45. In spite of publishing more than 80 books and being published in twenty languages he was not well known in the English-speaking world,[3]but in the Spanish-speaking world he was considered one of Latin America's most important writers from the latter half of the 20th century.[4]

Philippians 2:3 "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, Rather, in humility value others above yourselves." This is kind of against a lot of today's thoughts.  Be who YOU want, be kind to YOURSELF, Make YOURSELF happy.  The thinking is that if you are good to yourself, then you can be in a position to be kind to others.  Maybe, just maybe it is the other way around.  What do you think?

1993  I Was at work and Nicole had a half day of school.  My friend Pam came all the way from Sterling Heights to pick her up and took her to her house for the afternoon.  When I got there after work Pat had taken all the kids, their two boys and Nicole to the show, which left Pam and I to have a girls evening of wine and chat!  What a pleasant memory!

1605 - The "Gunpowder Plot" attempted by Guy Fawkes failed when he was captured before he could blow up the English Parliament. Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated every November 5th in Britain to celebrate his failure to blow up all the members of Parliament and King James I. I don't want to be that guy, but somehow it rings a bell this year.

Notable residents[edit]

Writers Circe MaiaMario BenedettiTomás de Mattos, and Jorge Majfud are from Tacuarembó, as is José Núñez, 19th century Nicaraguan politician. Some Uruguayans claim that the tangomusician Carlos Gardel was born near Tacuarembó, in the village of Valle Edén.[5][6] Scholarly consensus is that he was born in Toulouse, France, then raised in Buenos Aires, but as an adult he obtained legal papers saying he was born in Tacuarembó, probably to avoid French military authorities.[7][8][9][10]

Biography

Circe Maia was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1932. Her parents were María Magdalena Rodríguez and the notary Julio Maia, both originally from the north of Uruguay.[1] Her father published her first book of poetry (Plumitas, 1944) when she was just 12 years old. The sudden death of her mother when she was 19 left a somber mark on Maia's first book of mature poetry which was published when she was 25 (En el tiempo, 1958).
She married Ariel Ferreira, a medical doctor, in 1957. In 1962 they moved permanently to Tacuarembó in the north of Uruguay with their first two children.
She studied philosophy in the Instituto de Profesores Artigas and also at the Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias of the Universidad de la República, both in Montevideo. She began teaching philosophy at a Tacuarembó high school and at the Instituto de Formación Docente de Tacuarembó, the local teachers' college. She was a founding member of a students' union (Centro de Estudiantes del Instituto de Profesores Artigas) and an active member of the Socialist Party of Uruguay.[2]
The years of the civil-military dictatorship of Uruguay were difficult for Circe Maia and her family. At 3 a.m. one morning in 1972, police raided their home to arrest both Ariel and Circe. However Circe was allowed to remain because she was caring for their four-day-old daughter.[3] Her husband was imprisoned for two years for being associated with the Tupamaros National Liberation Movement. In 1973 the government dismissed her from her teaching position at the high school. However, she began to teach English and French language classes privately. In 1982 her 18-year-old son was killed in an automobile accident. This tragedy combined with the pressures of the dictatorship caused her to suspend poetry writing. With the return of democracy in 1985, her position at the high school was restored, and in 1987 she published two books, Destrucciones, a small book of bitter prose, and Un viaje a Salto, a narrative about an incident during her husband's imprisonment.
Her return to poetry was marked by the publication of Superficies (1990), which was followed by other poetry books and her translations from English, Greek, and other languages. For the reading public, her most important publication was the recompilation of poetry from her previous nine books appearing as Circe Maia: obra poética (2007 and 2010), amounting to over 400 pages.
Circe Main taught philosophy in high school until her retirement in 2001, but she continued to teach English in a private institute and direct local theater productions, as well as continuing her work as a poet, essayist, and translator.[4]  I found this interesting because of the influence of the dictatorship government
repressing her writing.  Freedom of speech.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud."  The other reading 6:9-11 is an explanation of what love isn't.  Love does not coerce others into acts that they do not want to do. It doesn't hurt but uplifts another to a better place.  Love is a safe place to be with and for someone else.  "The greatest of these is love"  Agape - unconditional love for one another - we need it.

1992 - There was a family, Mom and 3 kids that came to St Paul looking for help.  The church took her under their wing - paid her rent and caught up on her utilities.  We provided food on a regular basis.  I got very involved with her three children- two teenage girls and a young (4) year old boy.  As I learned more about them I found that her idea of raising her children was far different from mine.  I went over to the house one day to discover the middle girl had been bitten by a mouse that was in her pants when she put them on in the morning.  The house was horrifyingly horrible.  They lived in filth, but knew every available hand out in town.  The oldest girl got pregnant and told me, quite happily, she found a crib on the curb that she could use and a free place to get diapers.  They spent all of their time working the system and churches, it was what Mom knew and taught the kids.  I was so appalled to find she was a third generation of that type of thinking and proud of it.  I believe the middle child might have broken the mold - but the other two seemed destined to follow.  I pray someone better than I intervened.  How sad.

1846 - A patent for an artificial leg was granted to Benjamin Palmer. What a great gift to those who need those, and so improved as time has gone on!  Some people make great choices.

Weights to strengthen our muscles to support those bones.  Lift with your arms for the upper body, biceps, shoulders, pecs, back muscles all while tightening those abs and glutes for more strength.  Try to increase your weights if it becomes to easy to lift.  When you hold the weights while doing squats and lunges holding weights you increase the effort.  Get going!

Philemon 8-18  This is a one page letter from Paul and Timothy to Philemon.  To be included in the New Testament, it must have been important.  I see the message as a request to save, prepare and build up Onesimus (an adopted son of Paul) into the church and above all to recognize him in the faith.  Onesimus was apparently a slave or someone of lesser standing to these people and so Paul pleaded with them to accept him.  It still happens today - we don't accept people for their value or reach out to them to join us in our faith.  Let's try harder.

1991 - It was a Sunday and I was still teaching Sunday School at St Paul's.  This was a rare and wonderful occasion - Alice brought Merri and Lindsey and helped with my classes, I had 3 classes together on this day, so I needed the help.  I'm sure Nicole was thrilled to have her cousins there, she still loves spending time with them.

1991 - Israeli and Palestinian representatives held their first-ever face-to-face talks in Madrid, Spain. Fifteen years later........

Genesis 3:1-7  This chapter is titled "The Fall", about the fall into sin with the help of the devil.  I am going to take the liberty of questioning vs 5 "For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."  I think it should read, you will think you will be like God, knowing good and evil.  We humans have a habit of deciding what WE think is good and evil and bending that truth to our own thoughts.  Think of ISIS and what they think is good. This is the devil messing with us. Your thoughts?

1990  Another Mom and I started up a Daisy troop to begin the Girl Scout process.  I had been a girl scout and so had the other mom but we were not crazy about the women running the girl scout group at the elementary, so we started our own.  The first meeting included making daisy chains and learning the Gold and Silver girl scout song.  I battled with Nicole for a month or two until it wasn't worth it anymore and we dropped.  She thought it would be learning to tie knots and camping.  Always know your child and encourage their interests, not yours. (maybe).

1883 - Thomas Edison executed a patent application for an electrical indicator using the Edison effect lamp (U.S. Pat. 307,031). Thanks Tom!!

History[edit]

On 24 October 1831, a presidential decree by Fructuoso Rivera ordered the creation of a city in the region. The task was entrusted to the President's brother, Colonel Bernabé Rivera.
Plaza 19 de Abril
Colonel Rivera left Montevideo on a three-month journey with a caravan of wagons and families, towards the shore of the Tacuaremboty River, which in the Guaraní language means "river of the reeds". The area was surveyed and divided into blocks for settlement. On January 21, 1832, Coronel Rivera founded the town under the name "San Fructuoso", after Saint Fructuosus of Tarragona(whose Saint's Day is January 21[1]).
By 1837, San Fructuoso was a growing town. It had more than 500 residents, a justice of the peace, a military commander, a parish priest, a mayor, and a Public Works Commission. On 16 June 1837, the Tacuarembó Department was created (along with Salto and Paysandú), and San Fructuoso was named the capital.
Over time, the community continued to grow. According to the Act of Ley Nº 2.389, on 17 July 1895 it held the status of "Villa" (town). Its name changed to "Tacuarembó", and on 24 June 1912, its status was elevated to "Ciudad" (city) by the Act of Ley Nº 4.031.[2]    Not even 200 years old!

Proverbs 18:4-12  Proverbs is a great place to get your verse for the day.  I told my Sunday School classes to remember Proverbs as your mother telling you what to do.  I like this one vs 6 "The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating."  What came first the Bible or facebook? But seriously good advise here you probably know, just need to be reminded.

1987 - It was a Sunday and Nicole was 2 - time to put on the ice skates.  It was also Aaron's first time on the ice and he did much better than Nicole.  He skated with his arms straight out - for balance and he went around and around the St Clair Shores rink.  The Casacelli's were with us.  Their son Frankie was already playing hockey so Aaron was determined to catch up.  Nicole looked like she was mad as Frank held onto her and made her stand up on those double bladed skates, she wouldn't move, straight as a board.  Video on request.

1512 - Michelangelo's paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel were first exhibited to the public.

Tacuarembo Uruguay
We have moved due south in south America from Sariname to Uruguay.  I think it might be spring there!  Let's see what goes on in the city of Tacuarembo!

Location and geography[edit]
The city is located on Km. 390 of Route 5, 113 kilometres (70 mi) south-southwest of Rivera, the capital city of the Rivera Department. Routes 26 and 31 also meet Route 5 within the city limits. The stream Arroyo Tacuarembó Chico, a tributary of Río Tacuarembó, flows through the north part of the city. As of the census of 2011, it is the eighth most populated city of the country.
Tacuarembó is located in Uruguay
