Colossians 1:5b-6 The fruit of life - the nourishment and fulfillment we find in the Word and God's love so that we can grow in our love toward God and one another. The Gospel is alive and well in our world, it just needs you to believe it and share it. "God, teach us to sit in the warmth of your presence that our lives may bear the fruit of justice and joy. Amen."

On this day
1992 - The journal says i was working on Andy's video. I have an abundance of home video's that I took while the kids were growing up. On different occasions I have retaped them for people for gifts to help keep the memories, but those vcr tapes don't last forever, much like the childhoods.

Parenting
When the kids were little Mark got me the camcorder and I became known as Nancy Spielberg. I had that camera on my shoulder all the time. The tapes are getting old and worn out, they don't keep. My friend Pete copied some of them onto CD's but the quality and color is not as good, unfortunately. It was so nice of him to do though, it took him months. I do think he enjoyed watching. If you have some time......

I did about 10 minutes with Jillian - still favoring the back.  I am going to try doing more this afternoon to get back up again.  My advice is, be kind to yourself but don't let yourself off the hook.  The today show was talking about the 30 day challenge that is popular right now and how easy it is to fail.  If you set an time everyday to do "something" it will become habit after awhile.  I guess that is what has kept me going for 20 years - its a habit.

Colossians 1:3-5a  I thought of the song they sing "And they know we are Christians by our love"  That is who Christians are supposed to be.  Filled with love from a God who IS love and His son sent to us to show us love and teach us love.  Love for all of creation and for one another. The study writer posts this by Jurgen Moltmann from The Source of Life - "God is waiting for the homecoming of those he has created"  That is all people.  No one is homeless with God.

On this day
1988 - Ah, Michigan.  We had a big snow but my friend Chris was in the Bahamas so I had to drop Nicole (3) at Mom's and go to work.  When I got home Uncle Marty and I shoveled snow.  The boat show was on (of course) so Mark got out of shoveling - again.  Nicole played in the snow with Joey and then Joey (5) stayed for dinner, as usual.  Just a regular winter day in Michigan.

1752 - The Pennsylvania Hospital opened as the very first hospital in America. It probably catered to all the people who hurt their backs shoveling snow this time of year.

Parenting
In church last night, Ash Wednesday so there was a good number of us despite the snow storm.  All the middle school kids were there, because, they have to take sermon notes during lent.  I noticed the young man sitting in front of me, filled out his before the service even started.  I would LOVE to read it.  lol.

I did some country line dancing this morning - good for everything including your sense of humor.

Colossians 1:1-2  The greeting between faithful Christians that you never hear spoken, except in church. "Grace and peace to your from God our Father."  Ash Wednesday starts a 6 week period, plus Holy Week when we are waiting for the big event.  The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.  While we are looking back at ourselves during this time, looking for forgiveness and healing, and how we can become a better person, the anticipation grows for the end result - the resurrection.  The study writer today said this "I know only that you are the Mystery of this Love who seeks me in every face I see and every place I go.  So let the journey begin.  I carry no bag, only a heart filled with hope."  Bearing Fruit - Devotions for Lent 2016 is where I will be reading from during this time.  I hope you enjoy it.

On this day
1983 -  I went down to Florida for a week, all by myself to soak up some sun.  I stayed with my cousin Peggy her husband Keith and their two kids, David and Christine.  Christine was just a baby, maybe 8 months or so.  Peggy and Keith both worked and David was in school, Christine to a daycare so I was mostly on my own.  Peggy's mom and dad, my Aunt Margaret and Uncle Don picked me up and took me to lunch, long drives and told me old stories about my dad, which was wonderful.  It was different from any vacation I had ever taken as I was on my own most of the time, and I liked it.  Peggy, David, Aunt Margaret and Uncle Don are all gone now so it makes these memories even sweeter.

1763 - The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian War. In the treaty France ceded Canada to England. Something I think they still regret - especially those in Quebec.

Parenting
Lent a time of turning around and repenting of your sins.  I have most often gone to church on Ash Wednesday, even during those years when I didn't attend church regularly.  Tonight my daughter will go to another church then I, but we will both go.  Our churches do lenten dinners, or bread and soup dinners to help our church families gather in faith for this time of the church.  I am just truly glad my daughter in her work will probably always be drawn back into the many church families that she has.

Nepal
The first civilizations in Nepal, which flourished around the 6th century B.C. , were confined to the fertile Kathmandu Valley where the present-day capital of the same name is located. It was in this region that Prince Siddhartha Gautama was born c. 563 B.C. Gautama achieved enlightenment as Buddha and spawned Buddhism.
Nepali rulers' early patronage of Buddhism largely gave way to Hinduism, reflecting the increased influence of India, around the 12th century. Though the successive dynasties of the Gopalas, the Kiratis, and the Licchavis expanded their rule, it was not until the reign of the Malla kings from 1200–1769 that Nepal assumed the approximate dimensions of the modern state.
The kingdom of Nepal was unified in 1768 by King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who had fled India following the Moghul conquests of the subcontinent. Under Shah and his successors, Nepal's borders expanded as far west as Kashmir and as far east as Sikkim (now part of India). A commercial treaty was signed with Britain in 1792 and again in 1816 after more than a year of hostilities with the British East India Company.

Acts 10:23b-33  This is a continuation of a story from a couple of days ago.  Peter was summoned by God to go to Cornelius's house.  Cornelius was a good man, but not a Jew, so it was different for Peter, who was a Jew to visit the home of a Gentile.  Peter was told by a voice what he needed to know.  "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean."  God released us from the laws he had previously made that separated people from each other.  The Jews were now expected to be accepting of everyone.  That is what Jesus taught for us - in a perfect world.

On this day
1982 - I was working at Quality at the time and stopped at Art Works at Eastland Mall on my way home.  It was a frame shop that had newly opened and I was the outside sales person.  I actually loved going to all the art shops around the Detroit area.  It was great to see all the art and meet such a wide array of people.  Cold calls are hard to get used to but after a while I grew into it.

1825 - The U.S. House of Representatives elected John Quincy Adams president. No candidate had received a majority of electoral votes. The way this election is going I could see this happening.

Family
This family I would talk about today is the family of God, the people of the earth.  I am blown away by diversity and the wonderful gifts of different peoples around the world.  I love to experience the music, culture and food of all countries and so do a lot of you.  That is why we have a wide variety of restaurants representing different cuisine.  Too bad we can't love each other as much as we love, Mexican, Chinese, Thai and so on - food.  Embrace variety!

These are the days I warn others about.  My get up and go got up and went.  Guys here at 7:30 am to put in furnace and I need to get to the chiropractor.

Psalm 35  This reading is of King David, chosen by the Lord.  All I can think is that it is tough at the top.  Very often David feels put upon and threatened by others and pleads with God to help him win over his enemies.  We all have those days when we feel everyone is against us, I do think it eases up as you get older, but we can all still go to God for help and remember - "My tongue will proclaim your righteousness, your praises all day long."  Thank Him.

On this day
1977 - The important thing that happened on this day is that the lady I bought from accepted my offer on this house.  Many would say it was my demise, but here I am 39 years later.  As I write this 3 men are in my house replacing the furnace that Pete put in that year. I was also seeing a social worker later that day in regards to help for my brother Mark.  I don't remember that going very well.  I still wish I had taken a longer look at the length of the driveway, of course at 30 I could shovel easier.

1861 - A Cheyenne delegation and some Arapaho leaders accepted a new settlement (Treaty of Fort Wise) with the U.S. Federal government. The deal ceded most of their land but secured a 600-square mile reservation and annuity payments. Lucky them - I thought the whole country was theirs to start with. huh.

Friends
Pete is not around (rip) anymore to know of any of this, but he is certainly thought of today.  I have to give him credit, I don't remember his having any help with the furnace, but there are three guys here taking it out.  Hopefully all animal access ways will be closed when they are done.  You don't forget that moment when you go into the utility room and your cat and dog are watching a baby opposum sitting and eating a dog biscuit. (I didn't give it to him).  Fun days.

Nepal
On September 20, 2015, a new constitution (Nepaliनेपालको संविधान २०७२) was announced by President Ram Baran Yadav in the Constituent Assembly. The Constituent Assembly was transformed into a legislative parliament. The new constitution established Nepal as a federal democratic country by making seven unnamed states.[15][16][17][18]
Nepal is a developing country with a low income economy, ranking 145th of 187 countries on the Human Development Index (HDI) in 2014. It continues to struggle with high levels of hunger and poverty. Despite these challenges, Nepal has been making steady progress, with the government making a commitment to graduate the nation from least developed country status by 2022.[19][20]

I have a new furnace coming in so, today I will be cleaning out the utility room and scrubbing the walls and floors that I haven't seen in years.  Because I have no gas I put dinner on in the slow cooker because a few of us are going to a church in Detroit that is having a dance to raise money for a new roof.  Hope we can get that done, and BTW great exercise in dancing!

Deuteronomy 9:15-24  If you haven't read the book you might have seen the movie.  Moses went up on the mountain to spend time with God, to pray and beseech for the people of Israel and their future.  While he was up there (getting the 10 commandments) the people went crazy, partied, and created a golden calf so they could SEE a god that they created.   You know how that went for them. If not read the book or rent the movie.

On this day
1976 - 40 years ago on this day I went over to my friend Waynettes house and hung out with her.  We probably had dinner and watched TV and chatted.  Maybe we were into the new series "Rich Man, Poor Man"  that was running.  Funny, she is coming over for dinner tonight and going to the dance with us.  Good friends.

1999 - Excerpts of former White House intern Monica Lewinsky's videotaped testimony were shown at President Clinton's impeachment trial. Do we really want to see this man back in the white house?

Parenting
Referring back to the Bible study today is the question, how do you act when left alone?  I can say that I did not do well when left home alone as a teenager.  My older brother was a saint and never did anything bad, but my younger brother had the same issues I had.  My daughter made much better choices than I did and I am extremely grateful for that.  Then the issue is what happened when confronted with the bad behavior choice?  If you are a parent of a teenager you could be having the same problem that God and Moses had with the Israelites.  History repeats itself.  Don't be Moses and smash the commandments and then have to go back up on the mountain for 40 days and wait for a new set from God and hope they aren't making the same bad choices while you are gone.

Nepal
monarchy throughout most of its history, Nepal was ruled by the Shah dynasty of kings from 1768—when Prithvi Narayan Shah unified its many small kingdoms[1]—until 2008. A decade-long Civil War involving the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), followed by weeks of mass protests by all major political parties, led to the 12-point agreement[14] of 22 November 2005. The ensuing elections for the 1st Nepali Constituent Assembly on 28 May 2008 overwhelmingly favored the abolition of the monarchy and the establishment of a federal multipartyrepresentative democratic republic. Despite continuing political challenges, this framework remained in place, with the 2nd Nepali Constituent Assembly elected in 2013 in an effort to create a new constitution.

Planned on some Holy Yoga this morning at church but my house - gas line, furnace etc had other plans so I'm waiting for help today.  And shivering.

Act 1:1-8  I love to read stories that I don't remember in the Bible.  This is one of  them.  An angel appeared to Cornelius and told him to go and get Peter, who was in Joppa.  Cornelius was a devout and God fearing man, so when the angel told him to do this - he sent his people to go and get Peter. I hope that I would do the same if the opportunity presented itself.  It also mentioned that Cornelius was Italian, which I hadn't heard named before.  The story goes on regarding Peter's mission.  Angels among us.

On this day
1968 - This is a real flashback.  My brother Andy was in Vietnam and I wrote to him most days.  He was always on our minds and the war was on TV everyday.  My journal says I wrote him a letter on this day.  His angel watched over him.

1861 - Samuel Goodale patented the moving picture peep show machine. And so it began.

Family
Mom and I both wrote to Andy a lot while he was in Vietnam.  There isn't much of anything more comforting than to hear from family when you are far away, or having problems of one kind or another.  I didn't particularly go to Mom when I had problems, but I sure would have liked to complain to her today about mine.  She was always sympathetic.  I did still have an angel watching over me today - maybe it was Mom.

Nepal
Hinduism is practiced by about 81.3% of Nepalis, the highest percentage of any country. Buddhism is linked historically with Nepal and is practiced by 9% of its people, followed by Islam at 4.4%, Kiratism 3.1%, Christianity 1.4%,[2] and animism 0.4%.[12] A large portion of the population, especially in the hill region, may identify themselves as both Hindu and Buddhist, which can be attributed to the syncretic nature of both faiths in Nepal.[13] animism?  wonder what that is.

Enjoy the day!  Make it Memorable  Happy Birthday to Michelle and Dave!
