The sermon today was about death. Everyone has lost someone and everyone will face the final moment of life as we know it. It is the best piece of faith you can have, to know that God has prepared the next place for you. It's worth getting your God on for.
On this day:
1902 - In Italy, the minimum legal working age was raised from 9 to 12 for boys and from 11 to 15 for girls. Progress?
1975 - On this day, it might have been the last time I was at Belle Isle. We went to the Dossin Museum, the Planetarium and had ice cream. I'm guessing it was a warmer day then today is.
Parenting - I live to get hugs at church from the little ones. Luke and Logan charged me and hugged my legs and showed me their Sunday School art work. Then came Savanah, another hug and showing off her new haircut. If for no other reason, please bring your little children to church to hug us old people. It is life sustaining.
Book Club - Blood and Beauty by Donant, a lot of history in this, think I will check to see if it is accurate.
New Orleans - Oh the food was great! My Shrimp Jambalaya was real spicy but very good. The Louisiana Beef Stew was excellent, the crab cakes and the corn bread. Can't beat that Creole/Cajun cooking. Get some before we move on from here!

March 22, 2014 Saturday
Kathy Smith and I did some fat burning exercise. If you are new to my posts, I have 30 different videos and printed exercise routines that I have been using for 20 years. I get bored doing the same thing, so I haunt garage sales in spring to search for the exercise videos and occasionally equipment to change up my routine. It works for me, I doing everything from aerobics to yoga, but you have to find what works for you. But, seriously, find something.
Revelation chapter 22 - The last word of the word is obviously Amen. I trust God has a place for me at the end of this life, whatever it is. I believe I am forgiven and that I will be with Him. I don't worry about the "end". I believe this life ends for people everyday and that if they sleep until the return or go directly to heaven, doesn't matter much to me. I trust in the Lord. Being the last book in the Bible should be a warning, pay attention to the word, it tells you what you need to know.

1457 - Gutenberg Bible became the first printed book.
2008 - We had 6" of snow here in St Clair Shores and it was the day before Easter.
Parenting - It is a happy day for the LGBT community. It IS unconstitutional to deny anyone their rights on marriage. I applaud the court for realizing this and all of those couples standing in line today to obtain their marriage licenses. Mom said, "now their will be gay divorces". (lol) Yes, now everyone has the right to make their own choices, good or bad. But they do have the right to choice.
Book club - Blood and Beauty by Dunant. just reading about the opulent wedding Pope Alexander VI gave his daughter at the Vatican. Take a minute to digest that.
New Orleans - Have the Travelers group meeting tonight. I found a great slow cooker recipe for shrimp jambalaya. Find a good Cajun recipe to try tonight or go out! for it.
The Court of Two Sisters is legendary for its daily jazz brunch, featuring live jazz music by the local Courtyard Kings and more than eighty different menu items, including the classic Eggs Benedict or Veal Grillades and Gravy. March 21, 2014 Friday!
Did a little ballet this morning. It is amazing how everything uses different muscles. This really works the front of the thighs. There is bar work, I use a sturdy chair, and then floor work.
Matthew chapter 25 - The parable of the bags of gold. God entrusts us to use the gifts He gives us wisely. You should read this yourself and see what you think are possible points of the story.

1788 - Almost the entire city of New Orleans, LA, was destroyed by fire. 856 buildings were destroyed.
1966 - My friend Chris and I went to the show and saw "Guess Who's coming to Dinner" and "The Party" with Peter Sellers. I don't remember seeing the first movie that night but the 2nd movie was, I thought, one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It is so typically 60's if you want to go there.
Parenting - Mom and Dad's first interest and concern is of course the kids and doing it all for them. It is also so important for parents to have their own friends to keep them in touch with adult things and the joy of laughing and sharing daily events.

March 20, 2014 Thursday SPRING
After the ballroom dancing class last night, I decided to skip the morning workout today. Might go by the gym and get on the treadmill later.
Psalm 115 - This is about putting God first above everything. Before your phone, your family, your job or whatever else you deem important. It doesn't mean that you give up or ignore those things, just remember He is the reason you are here, in His image and He gave you through all of His peoples imaginations and abilities everything that you have. Remember your prayers, your thanksgiving before meals and to praise Him. That's what He wants for you.
On this day:
1965 - U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson orders 4,000 troops to protect the Selma-Montgomery civil rights marchers.
2007 - Nicole had her first Lacrosse game for college. Unlike High School I couldn't make all her games.
2010 - Alice and I took our Mom's to dinner at Terrie's Terrace. That was a memory my Mom still talks about. "It was so nice and the food was so good". Sometimes she forgets I was there, and thinks it was just her, Alice and Julia, and tells me about it like I don't know. It's okay. You never know which memory will go down in history for certain people. Take someone who would really appreciate it to lunch or dinner, make it memorable.
Parenting - I never fully understood Lacrosse. I started out with softball, which I had a pretty good idea about, but then she switched to soccer in high school. I knew nothing about soccer, but I learned. She got a scholarship in basketball to college, (which I can follow), but dumped it for Lacrosse. (No idea). We are to cheer (when everyone else cheers) and commiserate when they loose, that's all, it's there choice.

Luke chapter 15 - Parables about the lost sheep and the lost coin. God sends Jesus to look for you and bring you back into the fold. "There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." This is Lent, the time to repent. God is looking for you.
On this day:
1931 - In an attempt to lift the state out of the hard times of the Great Depression, the Nevada state legislature votes to legalize gambling. Did it work?
2003- We were in a countdown to the war with Iraq. Still not sure if it was useful or not.
Parenting - was reading back in my journals and remembering a couple, friends of mine, that had taken his younger sister in to try and turn her life around. The damage done to children in younger years can be very hard to overcome, even with the best support and love available. Only a lot of effort on that child's part can a bad upbringing be turned around. I hope she made it.
Book club - Blood and Beauty by Dunant, wow. talk about a bad upbringing. Good book.

Went to the massage therapist yesterday, (a gift from my friends) and much appreciated. Pam is very good at detecting what areas need work. I am having trouble with my left shoulder and she gave me a set of exercises to do to strengthen and repair that problem. She said one of the best exercises you can do is downward facing dog. The massage was wonderful, so healing. Don't just assume you are getting old - find something to do to make it better. I have seen many elderly people feel great after a few weeks in rehab after a fall and then exercising, but soon after they quit the exercises at home and go back to the sedentary life style and the aches and pains. Don't be that person.
2 Corinthians chapter 2 - Ministers of the New Covenant. The passage here speaks of Christ's aroma and how we should spread that aroma to others. vs. 15 "For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing." The study writer says "When we walk with God, we leave behind a sweet fragrance that can inspire others to follow." Smells good to me.

1673 - Lord Berkley sold his half of New Jersey to the Quakers. That was quite a property transfer.
1988 - All my life I had an aversion to typing. I was the editor or the Off Shore racing club newsletter, and would take all the gathered information to Noel to type so I could set it up to give to the printer. My life is so much better since the computer! Just for the ability to type! I am sure it has changed your life too. Younger people have no concept of the world before. When did you get your first computer?
Parenting - We have two pcs, a laptop, two smart phones and Nicole's notebook. Well hooked up. I do wonder how it will change the next generation, I know how if they don't quit playing games all day on the electronics. Mindless entertainment, like television for the generation before.
Book club - Blood and Beauty by Sarah Donant - With 2 doctor appts for Mom today, I should get a lot of good reading in. I'm liking the book but am astounded by the content.
New Orleans - I guess this says it all about yesterdays celebration:

March 17, 2014 Monday St Patricks Day!
Did aerobic and weight intervals with Denise this morning. Good thing I'm getting that massage later.
Job Chapter 3 and 42 - This guy had a tough life. If you ever feel bad about your life, read this book and see how he dealt with it.
On this day;
0461 - Bishop Patrick, St. Patrick, died in Saul. Ireland celebrates this day in his honor. I didn't know it was the day he died, puts new perspective on celebrating.
1981 - I went to lunch with two brothers that were regular customers at Quality Picture Frame where I worked. Kim and Donn were great guys, a lot of fun and very entertaining. They worked for their dad in Oak Park. Times were different, eventually it came out that Donn was gay, but it wasn't well known. It would have been bad for business and for Donn, who was very successful in other interests as well. I remember his family wasn't real accepting either. I am glad times are changing to end the stigma.
Parenting - My cousins son got engaged to his fiancée this weekend. Congratulations to Marcus and Ken. What a handsome couple!
Book club - Blood and Beauty by Sarah Donant, what a story. I had no idea that went on in the Catholic church with their Popes. The Borgias. I guess I held them all to a higher standard. They were/are after all human.
Travel - New Orleans!
The first jazz festival is the end of April to beginning of May! Wouldn't you love to get a seat down there for that? Tickets available on Amazon. Find some New Orleans music - Jazz, blues, Dixie land to listen to today.
