Micah 6:8  "He has shown you, O (people) , what is good: and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."  The study writer here speaks of her husband going into the ministry and then doubting he is good enough for the job.  Who hasn't thought about that?  When God calls, he knows that you are capable, trust his judgement and give it your best!  Listen!

On this day
2001 - I cleaned the garage after church. (The garage is always a mess after Christmas).  Nicole had indoor soccer probably at Fraser.  Jan came over later for dinner because we celebrated Mom's birthday, which was on the 9th.  Wow Mom would have been 79 that year.  Seems like yesterday and forever at the same time.

1782 - The Bank of North America opened in Philadelphia. It was the first commercial bank in the United StatesIs this the current Bank of America?  They own me lock stock and barrell.

Wad Madani Sudan

The earliest educational system of Sudan was established by the British during the first half of the 20th century. Its primary function was to provide a limited number of qualified professionals for the colonial administration. Schools were mainly located to Khartoum. In addition, independent Christian missionaries established schools across the south, but quality of the instruction was poor.
With the independence of 1956, only few reforms were launched in the educational sector. Since 1962, schools in the civil war ridden southern provinces have been operated by local authorities. There is no common program for education here, and resources are limited.
Through the 1970's reforms to make education effectively compulsory were launched, and with improved focus on technical and vocational education. Until then, education had focused training for an eventual university degree, but only a small part of all pupils got that far.
Still, through the 1980's the school system failed to produce enough qualified candidates at both lower and higher levels. Technical studies continued to have a low status among pupils, usually considered a second best option.
A persistent problem to the Sudanese educational system was the loss of qualified teachers, who often chose other forms of work or took work in foreign countries.
Special programs to promote education among girls have been carried out, but often facing the opposition from traditional ideas. Sudan has its own women's university, which has been quite successful.
A major reform to the educational system was launched in 1990, when Islam became a central part of all subjects; military service became a requirement to be admitted into university; Arabic was decreed the new language of instruction in universities, replacing English. The reforms met strong opposition, and many of the teaching staff at universities were dismissed.
The size of expenditure on education compared to GDP is presently highly uncertain, the last good estimate goes back to 1991, when 6.0% was used. Should this be the figure today, it would correspond to $130 per capita, placing Sudan among the countries spending the least money on its education. Interesting.

Orphanage

Because of the long lasting war (25 years), and the poverty and sickness, tens of thousands of refugees have fled to South Sudan for various reasons. They have fled to escape war, religious persecutions (because the North is predominantly Muslim), leaving thousands of orphans everywhere. These helpless children wander from place to place, they need a safe place of refugee for food, shelter and the love of Jesus Christ.
While Deng and David were in South Sudan they were able to meet with the governor and key officials who donated 50 acres of land, in Gambela, for an orphanage, and 150 acres in Mattar. Since Gambela has water, government and an established community, we felt that starting the first orphanage in Gambela would be most appropriate. At a later date, we may be able to open another orphanage in Mattar. But that would include the need for water wells, more buildings, and more safety precautions.
We need $36,000 to finish the building for the orphanage. The goal is to have this open by the beginning of 2015. We are also in communication with the leaders in South Sudan to establish relationships for families who may want to adopt children in need. Would you please consider what God would lay on your heart to either pray, volunteer or donate.
Please contact us, if you would be interested in volunteering, going on a trip, or considering adopting one of these precious children.
Enjoy the day!  Make it memorable!  Happy Birthday Lisa! and Arnie!

Ephesians 2:14 "For He Himself is our peace."  We say this in church a lot.  Peace be with you or peace of the Lord be with you.  Do we listen or sense the peace?  I have a difficult time, because, as the study writer says "I go 100 miles an hour" all the time, if not my body - my mind.  I am going to try and find that - no TV or music or even reading - time to be quiet and be led to the quiet waters and find that peace.  Get your quiet time - reload.  Thanks be to God.

On this day
1998  I stayed home from work because I had new windows installed in the entire house.  This was in the interest of making the house better insulated.  It worked for a while, but I have not re caulked or any of the things you are supposed to do and lets face it after a while they are like the old windows and leak cold air.  Unless, they are the really expensive wooden ones like Mom had in Gaylord. So my windows are not 20 years old.  You must have money to make or save money.  Am I right?

1998 - The spacecraft Lunar Prospect was launched into orbit around the moon. The craft was crashed into the moon, in an effort to find water under the lunar surface, on July 31, 1999.  In the interest of science we sent this up, crashed it and trashed up the moon.  Similar to my windows, in an effort to do good we create garbage.  lol.

Wad Madani Sudan
Wad Madanicity, southeast-central Sudan. Wad Madani lies on the west bank of the Blue Nile 85 miles (136 km) southeast of Khartoum, at an elevation of 1,348 feet (411 metres). It was a small Egyptian administrative post in the 19th century. It owes its recent growth to the irrigated lands of the Jazīrah (Gezira) irrigation scheme and is now the commercial centre of the Al-Jazīrah cotton-growing area. Peanuts (groundnuts) and wheat are also grown in the area. The University of Al-Jazīrah (founded 1975), the Agricultural Research Corporation, and Al-Jazīrah Research Corporation Library are located at Wad Madani. It has good railway and road connections with Khartoum, Kūstī, and Al-Qaḍārif; ferry service on the Blue Nile; and a domestic airport. Most of the city’s inhabitants (mainly Arabic-speaking) are affiliated with northern and central Sudanese peoples. Pop. (2008) 289,482.  This from Britannica.

So, if you started on your workout program - do not make the decision to rest your tired muscles and resume your exercising when you feel better.  Pretty sure that is not a good thing to do!  Keep moving, lighten up if you have to, but don't stop.  (Did your hear the whip crack?)

Psalm 145:1-2  "I will praise you, my God and King, and bless your name each day and forever."  I pray a lot during the day, at meals, at bedtime and randomly.  When I hear a siren, when I see something on the news, when I remember something sad, and when I see something beautiful or remarkable.  I learned recently that my soul prays when I don't even know it.  This study writer reminds me that the Spirit prays for us when we don't, when we forget or just plain don't want to.  God never leaves us.  Praise the Lord oh my soul.

On this day
1997 - Nicole and I were down in Florida to see Grandma and Grandpa.  I actually took her down to see her dad, as we had separated in 1993 and she had not seen him since.  She was quiet about it which I saw as a problem.  I planned on leaving her there with her dad and grandparents and going to my cousins house for most of the time.  Even before we got on the plane grandma called to say that her dad would not be home in case we wanted to cancel the trip.  I did not, but maybe should have.

1781 - Richmond, VA, was burned by a British naval expedition led by Benedict Arnold. another bad day in history.

Parenting
I believe that remembering  something like this, later as an adult - you can understand the circumstances better and possibly deal with the pain that it caused.  When you realize that people make bad decisions and the repercussions hurt others it doesn't seem so much as a direct slap in your face, although it might have seemed that way at the time.  Memories can heal too.

Wad Medani Sudan
The popular Sudanese singers Abdel Aziz El MubarakMohammed Al Ameen and Ibrahim Al Kashif were born in Wad Madani. The center of the town's areas are the souq, Al Daraga, Al Gism Al Awal, Wad Azrag and the Sudanese District (formerly known as the British District).[citation needed]  Ok anybody heard of this group?

1 Samuel 3:10 "Yes, I'm listening".  As a boy Samuel was taken in by Eli to serve the Lord.  Samuel's mother had waited forever for a child and then in thanks to God gave the 2 year old baby to Eli to raise in the church. When Samuel heard a voice calling he didn't recognize it as God's voice and ran to Eli thinking it was him.  How often in our lives has God spoken to us and we didn't recognize His voice?  Make this your thought for today - "Yes, I'm listening."

On this day
1988  Wow on this day I went to Pat's shop and cleaned his office.  This is the guy I worked for all last summer.  When I cleaned I had Nicole (2) with me and he had his sons Jon and Sean there.  Not sure how much cleaning I got done with all that going on.  I probably should get over there soon as I can. Guess I will be back there for the summer again.  hmmm.  History repeats itself.

1884 - The socialist Fabian Society was founded in London. ?

The Fabian Society is a British socialist organisation whose purpose is to advance the principles of democratic socialism via gradualist and reformist effort in democracies, rather than by revolutionary overthrow.[1][2] As one of the founding organisations of the Labour Representation Committee in 1900, and as an important influence upon the Labour Party which grew from it, the Fabian Society has had a powerful influence on British politics. Later members of the Fabian Society included Jawaharlal Nehru and other leaders of new nations created out of the former British Empire, who used Fabian principles to create socialist democracies in India, Pakistan, Nigeria and elsewhere as Britain decolonised after World War II.  now we know.

Wad Medani Sudan
The University of al-Gezira is also located in the area.[2]   University of Gezira, or U of G, is a public university located in Wad MedaniSudan. It is a member of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World.[2]   Now we know.

There is a Pilates place not far from me and I'm tempted but keep reminding myself I have videos to do Pilates at home.  Which is what I did - I just lack someone telling me if my form is right while doing this.  Try Pilates in between whatever else you are doing.  It is amazing for back strength.  You can certainly get all kinds of advice these days regarding good health.  Pay attention!

Ezra 3:11  "For He is good, for His mercy endures forever......"  The study writer brings to our attention that many unruly youth were brought to God as adults.  We are not perfect, God above all knows that.  In my life I wonder how God bothers with me, but despite my past He holds onto me, blesses me, and leads me on better paths.  I am comforted by His great love.  He loves you too!

On this day
1987  Journal says - "Mark got up with Nicole - Kathy picked up Aaron, Andy came over for lunch with the girls, I called my Uncle Hank and Aunt Grace to come over for dinner the next Friday."  The holidays were over,  Aaron had probably been with us for a week since after Christmas and it was Saturday so Kathy was off work and wanted her son back.  The girls loved coming over to see Nicole she was not even 2 yet so she was a big draw.  My aunts and Uncle Hank were still with us and I loved to see them.  Family is important to me, I am reminded everyday when I read my journal.  Keep in touch with yours!

1888 - The drinking straw was patented by Marvin C. Stone. Interesting.

Wad Madani Sudan
The beaches of Wad Madani are situated on the eastern river bank of the Blue Nile, which flows into Sudan from Ethiopia. The city's facilities are more modernized than most places in the Sudan (except the Khartoum area)

John 14:6 ".....I am the truth..."  When you wonder, question or contemplate what the answer is - go to a simple line.  I am the truth.  If you aren't sure about who you are, look to Jesus who is - the kindness the joy and the peace.  Find your life and truth in him.

On this day
1983 - Journal "outside with kids on the hill with saucers, packed up and drove home.  I dropped off Christopher."  It was a Sunday and after the holiday, Andy and Alice had brought Merri and Lindsey up to Gaylord to spend New Year with Mom and Bob.  Christopher was my brother Mark's girlfriends little boy we had come up earlier in the week.  The kids had a ball sliding on that hill all afternoon, then we had dinner.  I will bet they all slept on the ride home.  A truly happy day.

1983 - The musical "Annie" closed on Broadway at the Uris Theatre after 2,377 performances. And has played a million times since!  "The sun will come up tomorrow...."

Wad Madani Sudan
History[edit]
In the early 19th century, Wad Madani ( Madani )was a small Turko-Egyptian outpost, and grew rapidly following the 1925 Gezira Scheme of irrigation to stimulate local economic development.[2] Wad Madani is a commercial centre of the Gezira agricultural district and is mostly residential. Wad Madani has lively commercial activities with good souqs.  A souq or souk (Arabicسوق‎‎, Hebrewשוק‎‎ suqHindiसूक, also spelled shukshooqsoqesouksuccsuksooqsuq) is an open-air marketplace or commercial quarter in Western Asian and North African cities.[1][2] Suq, and sometimes monti, is also used for a marketplace in Malta. The equivalent Persian term is "bazaar".  In case you wondered like I did.

Did you make a resolution to be healthier?  Good for you.  If you haven't already started to format your plan of diet and exercise, maybe you could spend today looking for diet plans or healthy recipes and consider which gym or path to exercise you want to take.  Did you line up a buddy to do this with?  I have heard that many people are more encouraged to stay on track if they answer to someone they are on track with.  The other suggestion is to keep track of what you are eating and when and what exercise you do.  Start with as little as you feel like or just realize that if you get off to a big start that you can back down to a level that you can stay with that fits your life.  A calendar with maybe your weight, miles walked, calories burned etc can be just enough to keep you honest about your effort.  Good luck and better health for the new year!

John 14:6  Jesus said "I am the way"   My new devotional says that these words are better than any map.  It is true.  When we are lost, trying to decide what job, what area to live in, what school to go to, who to date, where to vacation we often make bad choices in life styles.  You can look to Jesus for guidance (how he lived his life and treated people) for trust (he has fulfilled His promise) for reassurance (he cares for you and promises you the peace you want).  If you follow His advice the decisions in life become clearer as to what is important.  Turn on your Jesus GPS.

On this day
1982 "Called my friend Christine to wish her Happy New Year.  I took down the Christmas decor and called Linda, who came over later in the day.  I started a new jigsaw puzzle and talked to my boyfriend Chuck in Florida."  Christine lives in Florida now, Linda lives in Texas and Chuck isn't with us any longer.  I can't set up a jigsaw puzzle because of the cat and I can't call my brother Mark. Life changes, we adjust and move ahead.  I have actually wished Chris and Linda Happy New Year on the internet, through social media today and that's ok - in 20 years I will tell you what I did today. :)

0404 - The last gladiator competition was held in Rome. I can't help but wonder who journaled or jotted down this piece of info but I admire this as a good start for the New Year! No more killing.!

Wad Madani Sudan  and Aljazirah orphanage
We have moved to this city in the Sudan and I will be attempting to incorporate a suggested recipient for donations or assistance in the area.  First lets look at Wad Madani:
Greater Wad Madani Locality, Wad Madani or (Madani)/(Medani) is located in SudanLocated in the somewhat center of Africa and interior of Sudan.  Wad Madani (Arabicودمدني‎‎ Wad Madanī) or (Madani) is the capital of the Al Jazirah state in east-central Sudan[1] Wad Madani lies on the west bank of the Blue Nile, nearly 85 miles (136 km) southeast of Khartoum[2] It is linked by rail to Khartoum and is the center of a cotton-growing region.[2] The city is also the center of local trade in wheat,[2] peanutsbarley, and livestock. It is also headquarters of the Irrigation Service.[1] In 2008, its population was 345,290.[1] It is the home of the Wad Medani Ahlia College, a private university.[3]  Check out this location and the orphanage on your own, enrich your knowledge
and patronage this year!
