John chapter 13  "Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."  They Will Know We Are Christians by Our Love.  One of my very favorite songs - says it all.  You don't have to preach you have to live your faith - smile at people, be kind, even to those you don't agree with or like.  That is what we are called to do.  God loves all of His children on earth and wants them to be reconciled to Himself.  We can only help if we show that same all encompassing love.

Get Fit
Going for another checkup this morning with my favorite doctor.  Keeping healthy.

On this day
1985  I was pregnant with Nicole and my Mom and brother Mark came down from Gaylord.  These were "nesting" days for me - getting my house ready and the nursery, not drinking, quit smoking and being peaceful.  We played Tripoli that evening, resting up for the big event the next day.  They threw me the biggest baby shower I have ever seen - it took forever to open the gifts.  Glad I took it easy this day.

1985 - The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reported that 407,700 Americans were millionaires. That was more than double the total from just five years before. It wasn't me.

Carthage Tunisia
The remains have been preserved under embankments, the substructures of the later Roman forum, whose foundation piles dot the district. The housing blocks are separated by a grid of straight streets about 6 m (20 ft) wide, with a roadway consisting of clay; in situstairs compensate for the slope of the hill. Construction of this type presupposes organization and political will, and has inspired the name of the neighborhood, "Hannibal district", referring to the legendary Punic general or sufet (consul) at the beginning of the second century BCE.
The habitat is typical, even stereotypical. The street was often used as a storefront/shopfront; cisterns were installed in basements to collect water for domestic use, and a long corridor on the right side of each residence led to a courtyard containing a sump, around which various other elements may be found. In some places, the ground is covered with mosaics called punica pavement, sometimes using a characteristic red mortar.
sounds like a neighborhood today, very organized for the time I think.

Enjoy the day!  Make it memorable!  Happy Birthday Ryan!

John  chapter 13  "So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot.  After he received the piece of bread, Satan entered into him."  I suggest that we don't think to badly of Judas, he had a role to play and if not for all the sin in the world which all of us own, Jesus would not have had to die.  He came for all of us, to save us from our sin - don't judge Judas to harshly.

On this day
1984  I had flown to Dallas to be with my friend Linda.  She had been attacked in her apartment parking lot and when she got loose and ran, he shot her 3 or 4 times in the back.  She was lucky to survive.  A neighbor stepped out on the balcony of his apartment and fired a rifle at the kid and he took off.  On this day Linda was still in the hospital after multiple surgeries to repair the damage.  A detective came in and asked her if she would look at pictures to identify the kid.  She did and they eventually found the kid and prosecuted him.  It it Texas and he is probably still in prison, if alive.  Linda got out of the hospital and wanted to go walk around the mall, so we did and then went and to her apartment and played cards, which we always did.  I'm glad to still have my friend Linda.

0322 BC - Aristotle, the Greek philosopher, died.

Carthage Tunisia
Carthage was one of the largest cities of the Hellenistic period and was among the largest cities in preindustrial history. Whereas by AD 14, Rome had at least 750,000 inhabitants and in the following century may have reached 1 million, the cities of Alexandria and Antioch numbered only a few hundred thousand or less.[9] According to the not always reliable history of Herodian, Carthage rivaled Alexandria for second place in the Roman empire.[10]
Punic ruins in Byrsa
On top of Byrsa hill, the location of the Roman Forum, a residential area from the last century of existence (early second century BCE.) of the Punic city was excavated by the French archaeologist Serge Lancel. The neighborhood, with its houses, shops, and private spaces, is significant for what it reveals about daily life there over 2100 years ago.[11]

John chapter 13  ""So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.  Ror I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you...."
Jesus lived a life as an example to us, how to love our God and love one another.

Get healthy.  The TV blew up with the anti vaccination dilemma today.  Whether to inoculate your children against childhood diseases.  I grew up in an era that saw the ravages of polio.  A 6 year old girl from my school was in a breathing tank in her living room for a year.  Her head stuck out of one end with a mirror above her face, I saw her!  My own brother had a mild case of polio in his neck which could have paralyzed him but medicine saved him from that.  Measles and chicken pox were serious pandemic illnesses that took many lives and left me with Scarlet Fever which could have damaged my heart but didn't because of medicine.  My brother Mark, at seven was diagnosed with Juvenile diabetes, due to his mumps falling to the pancreas gland.  His doctor told us that.  I vaccin  ated Nicole as a baby, even though I cried when she got the shots. Think people of all the other children you are putting at risk for your decision.

On this day
1983  was a Sunday and I had a busy 2 days prior.  The day before was my brother Mark's birthday and Alice, Andy and I took him to Fridays for dinner.  So on this day I napped, read and watched TV.  Now, do you remember TV back in the early 80's prior to cable?  There must have been something because I remember M-TV back then.  Mark loved that.

1983 - The United States Football League began its first season of pro football competition. It only lasted till 1986 - lost the battle to NFL.

Carthage Tunisia
Carthage was built on a promontory with sea inlets to the north and the south. The city's location made it master of the Mediterranean's maritime trade. All ships crossing the sea had to pass between Sicily and the coast of Tunisia, where Carthage was built, affording it great power and influence. Two large, artificial harbors were built within the city, one for harboring the city's massive navy of 220 warships and the other for mercantile trade. A walled tower overlooked both harbors. The city had massive walls, 37 km (23 mi) in length, longer than the walls of comparable cities. Most of the walls were located on the shore, thus could be less impressive, as Carthaginian control of the sea made attack from that direction difficult. The 4.0 to 4.8 km (2.5 to 3 mi) of wall on the isthmus to the west were truly massive and were never penetrated. The city had a huge necropolis or burial ground, religious area, market places, council house, towers, and a theater, and was divided into four equally sized residential areas with the same layout. Roughly in the middle of the city stood a high citadel called the ByrsaPlease note the wall that was built for the protection of this city.  Many historical locations have built walls - not a new thing.  What we need to do is correct the problems that create the need for walls but alas, I think the wall is an easier solution.

John chapter 12  "Whoever believes in me believes not in me but in him who sent me.  And whoever sees me sees him who sent me.  I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in the darkness."  Come into the light, Jesus is the light of the world, sent by God to light your path to the right way.  He will lead you out of the darkness, the unbelieving path to our God in heaven, for a better life and a better future.

I was visiting a friend in the hospital yesterday.  The most important thing you can do for your health is eat right and as you get older make regular appointments with your primary doctor for a check up.  She had fallen so far from a healthy place that she could very well have lost her life.  Check ups people!!!

On this day
1981  It was my brother Mark's birthday, he turned 24 and he lived here in my home with me.  Adele brought the girls, Merri and Lindsey over for birthday dinner for him.  I am happy to remember these days that were fun and family for him.  Nice to remember this day because the next day my garage and half the house burned down.  No one was hurt but it was a huge mess.

1766 - The first Spanish governor of Louisiana, Antonio de Ulloa, arrived in New Orleans. Not elected I assume.

Carthage Tunisia
The archaeological site was first surveyed in 1830, by Danish consul Christian Tuxen Falbe. Excavations were performed in the second half of the 19th century by Charles Ernest Beulé and by Alfred Louis Delattre. The Carthage National Museum was founded in 1875 by Cardinal Charles Lavigerie. Excavations performed by French archaeologists in the 1920s first attracted an extraordinary amount of attention because of the evidence they produced for child sacrifice. Although there has been considerable disagreement among scholars concerning whether or not child sacrifice was practiced by ancient Carthage,[3][4]recent research indicates that child sacrifice was in practice.[5][6] The open-air Carthage Paleo-Christian Museum has exhibits excavated under the auspices of UNESCO from 1975 to 1984.   Carnage in Carthage.

"Now is the judgement of this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out.  And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself."  I read this as Jesus saying that the devil will be banished.  I don't believe it is gone yet, I think it means when Jesus returns and takes his people with him.  In looking around the world - the devil is still very much present.  I believe the ruler of this world that he speaks of  is the devil - or those it resides in.  Don't fool yourself into thinking all people can be won over to the path of the righteous, the devil still has a stronghold.  Be one of the people that is drawn to Jesus.

On this day
1978  I went to a baby shower for my cousin Sandra at the Shelby Inn with my cousins Kay and Kathy.  We went back to Kay's afterward, probably for a few drinks.  Sandra's family are mostly non drinkers and so I'm thinking the party was dry.  Sandra's son David, I assume the shower was for him is married and has recently moved to Arizona with his wife and 3 kids.  I love knowing what has happened to all these babies we have showered with love and gifts.  I am still in touch with all of these cousins 41 years later.  Sandra's family are devout baptists and have lived good lives.

1681 - England's King Charles II granted a charter to William Penn for an area that later became the state of Pennsylvania.   So, before the USA was formed.

Carthage Tunisia
The ancient city was destroyed by the Roman Republic in the Third Punic War in 146 BC and then re-developed as Roman Carthage, which became the major city of the Roman Empire in the province of Africa. The Roman city was again occupied by the Muslim conquest of the Maghreb in 698. The site remained uninhabited, the regional power shifting to the Medina of Tunis in the medieval period, until the early 20th century, when it began to develop into a coastal suburb of Tunis, incorporated as Carthage municipality in 1919. I'm learning that any land that is of special worth or interest is always fought heavily for and usually has been under many rulers.  Here we see a still current war between the  Christians and the Muslims.  So many years.

John chapter 12:26  "Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also."  I have turned a big chapter in my life.  Although I always believed God was with me, now, I have to wonder why.  He loves us and continues to try and reach us.  I have not had - a - life changing moment but many moments.  The biggest being my daughters birth.  Now as health problems, and family issues build up I find more comfort in reading the word of the Lord and studying in the company of other believers than seeking earthly meaning of my life.  I do enjoy this world, the people, places and wonderful events but I now realize that other things mean more to me.  Have you considered where you are in life?  I hope wherever you are it is on the path with Jesus.

On this day
1977  I was in the process of selling my house in Birmingham and buying the house in St Clair Shores.  I had baked - chicken bread?  I don't know what that was now - but I dropped one off at my brother Mark's place.  I was always trying to feed him.  I went to Vic Tanny's to work out after that.  I sold the house in Birmingham for way too little and bought the house in St Clair Shores on the advice of  Pete my boyfriend, which turned out to be a bad purchase, but here I am 42 years later.  Life is to say the least - interesting.

1861 - The U.S. Congress created the Territory of NevadaViva Las Vegas!

Carthage Tunisia
The city developed from a Phoenician colony into the capital of a Punic empire dominating the Mediterranean during the first millennium BC.[1] The legendary Queen Dido is regarded as the founder of the city, though her historicity has been questioned. According to accounts by Timaeus of Tauromenium, she purchased from a local tribe the amount of land that could be covered by an oxhide. Cutting the skin into strips, she laid out her claim and founded an empire that would become, through the Punic Wars, the only existential threat to Rome until the coming of the Vandals several centuries later.[2]   I understand why it is hard to believe!
Carthage is located in TunisiaA map of Tunisia - Carthage in at the top right in that little bay.

John chapter 12  "So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death as well, since it was on account of him that many of the Jews were deserting and were believing in Jesus..."    This was new to me, I don't ever recall reading it, but it is interesting, right?  The chief priests were terrified that they would lose there positions and the following of the people.  Poor Lazarus, already saved from death once, now being considered for death again.  The Jews were ready to follow the best chance they had for a new and better life under a better king.  So much drama for such a waste of the precious time that we have to enjoy this life and world that God created for us.  Try to  spend more time thanking God for this gift of life we have and our beautiful world instead of jockeying for position in this temporary place.

On this day
1976  My kid brother got beat up.  He had so many sorrows in this world but fortunately he had faith.  He was always in the wrong place at the wrong time and making bad decisions to top it.  He was a slight built guy with very bad health, a juvenile diabetic with a dysfunctional family.  He was back living at my house and I was far from a good example during those years.  Mom had remarried and her husband - a strong healthy man couldn't deal with Mark's infirmities.  All lives matter but some are not as blessed as others.  Don't judge.

1562 - In Vassy, France, Catholics massacred over 1,000 Huguenots. The event started the First War of Religion.   This is old Testament not Christian - Why?  did they do this?

Carthage Tunisia
On the way to Turkey we stopped in Carthage and decided to stay here and visit this month!

CarthageCarthage (/ˈkɑːrθɪ/Punic𐤒𐤓𐤕•𐤇𐤃𐤔𐤕Qart-ḥadašt, "New City"; LatinCarthāgōArabicقرطاج‎, Qarṭāj) was the center or capital city of the ancient Carthaginian civilization, on the eastern side of the Lake of Tunis in what is now the Tunis Governoratein Tunisia.
