September 12, 2018 Wednesday #The cross#lift weights!#The Lodge#The Hudson#Independence

Get Faith
Colossians 3:12  "Therefore... clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."  This is the armor of God, this is our battle cry and our plan for the day, this is  what a Christian looks like.  I wear a cross everyday so that someone might ask me about my faith and I wear it to remind myself that I am a Christian and my behavior reflects that cross.  It is not always easy to be a Christian and God knows that and forgives us when we fall down.  So we get back up.

I went to church for a meeting last night and on my way in a friend was trying to unload a pair of metal plant stands.  She said we would get a couple guys to carry them off the truck.  My friend Judy jumped into the truck to help untie them and moved them back toward me, I handed my water to someone standing there and I checked the weight of the stand and then easily lifted it and moved it to the church.  I went back and got the second one.  They really weren't that heavy and so I was surprised at the big deal they made of me lifting and carrying them alone.  Lift those weights people!

On this day
1987  Our house was a beehive of activity and this was a Saturday.  by noon both Grandmas had stopped by and left.  I cleaned house, took a shower, took Nicole outside (2) worked in the yard and took her for a walk around the block.  She usually walked around herself - I might have still been pushing the stroller for backup but she would rather push it then sit in it.    Ty and Norma came over for dinner, the neighbors, Dave and Rose came over with their two boys and Marty stopped by.  A typical day at the Lodge.  And people wonder why I'm so social, and Nicole too - it is our lifestyle.

1609 - English explorer Henry Hudson sailed down what is now known as the Hudson River. I can't say I know where that is.

Papa New Guinea
Australian forces attack Japanese positions during the Battle of Buna–Gona, 7 January 1943.
During World War II, the New Guinea campaign (1942–1945) was one of the major military campaigns and conflicts between Japan and the Allies. Approximately 216,000 Japanese, Australian, and US servicemen died.[29] After World War II and the victory of the Allies, the two territories were combined into the Territory of Papua and New Guinea. This was later referred to as "Papua New Guinea".
The natives of Papua appealed to the United Nations for oversight and independence. The nation established independence from Australia on 16 September 1975, becoming a Commonwealth realm, continuing to share Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. It maintains close ties with Australia, which continues to be its largest aid donor. Papua New Guinea was admitted to membership in the United Nations on 10 October 1975.[30]

2 Chronicles 7:14-15 "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.  Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place."  He called us by name and then he sent His Son Jesus, who He named Jehovah saves, and we are saved.  He hears our prayers and he saves us from ourselves.

The reason I tell you that I lifted weights today is to keep myself inspired to keep lifting weights or do whatever exercise I do, so I don't have to lie and say I did.   I am also hoping that you are encouraged to keep doing whatever fitness works for you.  We all need someone to encourage us, remind us and inspire us to do better things for ourselves.  Hope you keep up your exercise program whatever you do!

On this day
1986  When your first baby farts you make note of it - it's a monumental event.  Nicole was 15-16 months old and I mentioned in my journal that after dinner she ate an entire popsicle, very neatly and that she is saying "hello".  It didn't matter that I had to work and Grandma and Uncle Mark had spent the day with her.  It didn't matter that it was a chilly rainy day and Christine had her last golf outing of the year - just those miraculous achievements of eating a popsicle and saying hello.  That's motherhood for you.

1499 - French forces took over Milan, Italy. I always thought the French were lovers not fighters.

Papa New Guinea
In the nineteenth century, Germany ruled the northern half of the country for some decades, beginning in 1884, as a colony named German New Guinea. In 1914 after the outbreak of World War I, Australian forces landed and captured German New Guinea in a small military campaign and occupied it throughout the war. After the war, in which Germany and the Central Powers were defeated, the League of Nations authorised Australia to administer this area as a League of Nations mandate territory.
The southern half of the country had been colonised in 1884 by the United Kingdom as British New Guinea. With the Papua Act 1905, the UK transferred this territory to the newly formed Commonwealth of Australia, which took on its administration. Additionally, from 1905, British New Guinea was renamed as the Territory of Papua. In contrast to establishing an Australian mandate in former German New Guinea, the League of Nations determined that Papua was an External Territory of the Australian Commonwealth; as a matter of law it remained a British possession. The difference in legal status meant that until 1949, Papua New Guinea had entirely separate administrations, both controlled by Australia. These conditions contributed to the complexity of organising the country's post-independence legal system.

Ephesians 6:10-11  "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.  Put on the full armor of God."  Arm yourself against the evils of the world with love and kindness.  Carry your breast plate of righteousness with forgiveness and compassion.  Strike with the sword of justice at inhumanity and bullies by calling them out to repent and be saved.  We are Christian soldiers.

I'm back!  Started the week (weak) with Jillian and her trying to get rid of my trouble zones.  Mine is from my shoulders to my pelvic bone.  This is a recent occurrence that I attribute to age and don't seem to be able to rid myself of - but I try!  You figure yours out and work on it!

On this day
1985 - I had to take Nicole to doctor for her first shot, she was too skinny to have it at 8 weeks so now she was 24 1/2 inches tall and weighed 12 pounds and 10 oz.  We both cried.  I believe in precautionary medicine - I have seen children with polio and know the damage that can be done by measles and mumps.  My brother Mark's doctor claimed his mumps dropped to his pancreas and that is why he became a juvenile diabetic - I remember that emphatically.  Coincidentally Nicole had to go to the doctor today and she got a shot - but she didn't cry. (So she said).

1608 - John Smith was elected president of the Jamestown, VA colony council. This seems like a lame historical note doesn't it?

Papa New Guinea
Little was known in Europe about the island until the 19th century, although Portuguese and Spanish explorers, such as Dom Jorge de Menezes and Yñigo Ortiz de Retez, had encountered it as early as the 16th century. Traders from Southeast Asia had visited New Guinea beginning 5,000 years ago to collect bird-of-paradise plumes.[27]
The country's dual name results from its complex administrative history before independence. The word papua is derived from an old local term of uncertain origin.[28] "New Guinea" (Nueva Guinea) was the name coined by the Spanish explorer Yñigo Ortiz de Retez. In 1545, he noted the resemblance of the people to those he had earlier seen along the Guinea coast of Africa. Guinea, in its turn, is etymologically derived from the Portuguese word Guiné. The name is one of several toponyms sharing similar etymologies, ultimately meaning "land of the blacks" or similar meanings, in reference to the dark skin of the inhabitants.

Get Faith
Isaiah 40:31  "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."  This verse I have committed to memory.  After my lung cancer surgery I believed that I would be permanently less healthy and strong than I was before.  I am not.  I still have the strength and ability I had before the surgery and hope to find ways to serve my God in thanks.

Get fit
Keeping your health and stamina going through exercise and healthy eating allows you to keep up a life style that keeps you happy and fulfilled.  The extra oxygen and nutrients keep the brain energized and the heart pumping.  It is a great way to also avoid depression.  Do yourself a favor!

On this day
1984  - I thought I had been pregnant but on this day I thought I had miscarried.  I took it easy all day and wondered if I would have a baby and if this was my last chance.  I was 37, Mark and I had just been married in April and our lifestyle was questionable for raising kids.  He had a son, Aaron from a previous marriage and we had been spending a lot of time with him. He was 6 and I really enjoyed having him with us.  So that day was a day of mixed emotions.  We never know what God has planned for us.

1984 - Walter Payton of the Chicago Bears broke Jim Brown’s combined yardage record when he reached 15,517 yards.

Papa New Guinea
Although by the late 20th century headhunting and cannibalism had been practically eradicated, in the past they were practised in many parts of the country as part of rituals related to warfare and taking in enemy spirits or powers.[23][24] In 1901, on Goaribari Island in the Gulf of Papua, missionary Harry Dauncey found 10,000 skulls in the island's long houses, a demonstration of past practices.[25] According to Marianna Torgovnick, writing in 1991, "The most fully documented instances of cannibalism as a social institution come from New Guinea, where head-hunting and ritual cannibalism survived, in certain isolated areas, into the Fifties, Sixties, and Seventies, and still leave traces within certain social groups."[26]   Ok gang stay together!

1 Peter 5:6-7  "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."   The devotional writer referred to C.S. Lewis writing about distractions during prayer in his book  The Screwtape Letters.  He noted that when our minds wander, we tend to use willpower to steer ourselves back to our original prayer.  Lewis concluded, though, that it was better to accept "the distraction as (our) present problem and (lay) that before (God) and make it the main theme of (our ) prayers."  That really struck a chord with me as I have two heavy things on my mind this morning.  Don't dismiss your worry - give it to God.

On this day
1983  It was a Thursday, I had been busy all day at work and stopped at the grocery store on my way home.  My brother Andy was living with me and our lives were really busy, socially with boat racing etc.  But, I am a person of habit and Thursday is always the day I take care of myself - facials, hair, nails, long baths etc.  It still is, now they say I am OCD with my routines, it is ok it works for me.

1664 - The Dutch surrendered New Amsterdam to the British, who then renamed it New YorkAnd is to this day.

Papa New Guinea

In the 18th century, traders brought the sweet potato to New Guinea, where it was adopted and became part of the staples. Portuguese traders had obtained it from South America and introduced it to the Moluccas.[22] The far higher crop yields from sweet potato gardens radically transformed traditional agriculture and societies. Sweet potato largely supplanted the previous staple, taro, and resulted in a significant increase in population in the highlands.  One crop can change the world.

Psalm 103:15-16 "As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone and its place remembers it no more."  This is a temporary place.  A place to enjoy all that God has created and those you love.  It is a place to leave a better mark on - maybe with your children to make this a better place for others.  It is a place to worship the Lord as he has commanded, because He knows that we need a higher standard to look up to and He wants us to live our lives to stay with him in the next life.  Consider spending more time in God's house so you can spend more time with Him in eternity.

I did the Pilates ring today - working out the legs, arms and abs.  I always feel so much better after. It is something you can do to make this life and this time more enjoyable for yourself.  Stay healthy.

1980  "Too soon old, too late smart" is an old German saying.  The other day I mentioned that I might have been making more adult type decisions but apparently not the Saturday night before this Sunday morning.  It says "hungover - laid around all day". I'm pretty sure this is not what was meant by resting on the Sabbath.  My best decisions came way later - 1985.

1812 - Napoleon defeated the Russian army of Alexander I at the battle of Borodino. Wow!  France beat Russia?

Wabag Papa New Guinea
Archaeological evidence indicates that humans first arrived in Papua New Guinea around 42,000 to 45,000 years ago. They were descendants of migrants out of Africa, in one of the early waves of human migration.[20]
Agriculture was independently developed in the New Guinea highlands around 7000 BC, making it one of the few areas in the world where people independently domesticated plants.[21] A major migration of Austronesian-speaking peoples to coastal regions of New Guinea took place around 500 BC. This has been correlated with the introduction of pottery, pigs, and certain fishing techniques.
I am amazed how they can discover these things!

Matthew 5:4  "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."  This is from the Beatitudes where Jesus comforted the people with reassurance of their future and who they were.  It is so hard to loose someone dear to you but I can't imagine not having that faith that tells me I will see them again.  My brother David, aka Buster was crib bound his entire life.  He was born with a brain stem inherited abnormality that kept him in an infant state.  He was baptized and never committed a sin, just lived 16 years in a state home that I have to believe he was well cared for or I just cry.  My brother Mark died at 29, I know he had solid faith but did not live a sinless life.  Because of my faith I know that my two brothers will be waiting for me when I get to heaven and we will be rejoined again.  Why would anyone not want that surety?  God loves us and has made it fool proof to be in the next life with him.   Believe, repent and be saved.

On this day
1979  I made time for my family, always.  On this day I went over to my Uncle Hank and Aunt Theresa's.  Uncle Hank had bought an old MG and it was really in good shape.  He wondered if I would like it -it was yellow like the last little yellow sport car I had, the Austin-Healy.  I remembered how much trouble that car was and passed but went out to dinner with them and Bill and Hilda, old family friends that had been around since I was a baby.  I enjoyed their company and glad that I spent the time with them.  They are all gone now - playing cards in heaven, I'm thinking.

1819 - Thomas Blanchard patented a machine called the lathe. So many men made a living using this.

Wabag Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea is classified as a developing economy by the International Monetary Fund.[14] Strong growth in Papua New Guinea's mining and resource sector led to the country becoming the sixth-fastest-growing economy in the world in 2011.[15] Growth was expected to slow once major resource projects came on line in 2015.[16] Mining remains a major economic factor, however. Local and national governments are discussing the potential of resuming mining operations at the Panguna mine in Bougainville Province, which has been closed since the civil war in the 1980s–1990s.[17] Nearly 40 per cent of the population lives a self-sustainable natural lifestyle with no access to global capital.[18]
Most of the people still live in strong traditional social groups based on farming. Their social lives combine traditional religion with modern practices, including primary education.[12] These societies and clans are explicitly acknowledged by the Papua New Guinea Constitution, which expresses the wish for "traditional villages and communities to remain as viable units of Papua New Guinean society"[19] and protects their continuing importance to local and national community life.  Seems hard to believe there are still developing nations on this world, especially "with no access to global capital".
