Mark chapter 9  "If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and to go to hell"   Here our Savior warns us of the perils of sin.  It isn't a laughing matter, it is serious.  Cutting off your hand may not stop you from stealing - but the thought of it should cause you to consider why you shouldn't sin.  Many have taken to thinking that hell is just an empty threat.  I tell you, if Jesus warns you of what can happen if you live a life of sin, then you should consider the reality that a future in hell does, certainly exist.  Choose wisely.  Remember that in knowing Jesus, you can be forgiven and live a sin free life.

On this day
2005  It was a Saturday so Nicole and I hit the stores.  She was home from Albion for the weekend and I'm guessing needed supplies.  We went to Optimizes, Macomb Mall,  Durhams, Office Depot and finally Farmer Jack.  Lindsey came over and her and Nicole made spaghetti and salad for dinner!  What a nice memory!  When your kid and niece decide to spend some time together in the kitchen - put your feet up and enjoy that time!

1541 - The city of Santiago, Chile was founded.   I don't think we have visited here yet!

Bosa Sardinia
Sardinia (/sɑːrˈdɪniə/ sar-DIN-ee-əItalianSardegna [sarˈdeɲɲa]SardinianSardìgna [saɾˈdiɲɲa] or Sardìnnia [saɾˈdinja]SassareseSardhignaGallureseSaldignaAlghereseSardenyaTabarchinoSardegna) is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (after Sicily and before Cyprus). It is located west of the Italian Peninsula and to the immediate south of the French island of Corsica.
Sardinia is politically a region of Italy, whose official name is Regione Autonoma della Sardegna / Regione Autònoma de Sardigna (Autonomous Region of Sardinia),[3] and enjoys some degree of domestic autonomy granted by a specific Statute.[4] It is divided into four provinces and a metropolitan city, with Cagliari being the region's capital and its largest city as well. Sardinia's indigenous language and the other minority languages (SassareseCorsican GallureseAlgherese Catalan and Ligurian Tabarchino) spoken on the island are recognized by the regional law and enjoy "equal dignity" with Italian.[5]  I ran out of info on Bosa  - let's look at the whole island!

Mark chapter 9  "Whoever is not against us is for us.  For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no means lose the reward."  There is always a lot of competition between churches. The Catholics and the Protestants, the Baptists and the Lutherans - etc.  We are in the same business people.  Greet others in the faith with the same love and kindness you share with those in your own church.  Live the faith!

On this day
2004  This was a great find for me today.  It said "slept bad - bones & joints ached all night."   I am currently having the same trouble and am relieved that 15 years ago it happened and went away!  There is a light at the end of the tunnel!!  It is easy at my age to think that everything that goes wrong is permanent.  I take great hope in knowing that I can, once again, overcome this "bones and joints ached all night" thing.  Don't get discouraged when you experience health issues - work to find a solution and go forward.

1812 - The term "gerrymandering" had its beginning when the governor of Massachusetts, Elbridge Gerry, signed a redistricting law that favored his party. This seriously needs to go!

Matthew chapter 5  "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."  Jesus taught us how to be salt and light to the earth.  He related an earthly substance to let people know that just as we need salt and light - we need God, and His Son Jesus has given us lessons to be His people.  Don't tell people you are a Christian - show them.

On this day
2003  Don't you love those days at work when all the people that make work - work, are off on vacation?  It was so pleasant with just Jay and the Mexicans, everyone happy and congenial.   I still miss the great lunches we had.  Jay loved to cook and occasionally Cholo and Rigo would bring in or cook Mexican food, what a treat!!  After work I went to Trish's for a haircut.  It was at the end of my street and recommended by friends and family. All I can think of is that she looked at me as an old person = I looked like my Mom when I left.  I quit her and started going to the quicky cut places and it worked better for me.   Have you been going to the same stylist or barber for years?  It is a special bond isn't it?  I'm enjoying working at a salon now and see those bonds.

1846 - Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began their exodus to the west from IllinoisThis would be interesting to learn about.

Bosa Sardinia
La Malvasia di Bosa is a concentrated DOC dessert wine produced in the Bosa area in the towns of Bosa, Flussio, Magomadas, Modolo, Suni, Tinnura e Tresnuraghes, grown in vineyards not more than 325 meters above sea level (these towns make up La Strada della Malvasia di Bosa, the Malvasia wine road.
The Mediterranean Spiny Lobster is found all over, but those off the coast of Bosa, arogosta a Bosa are generally accepted to be the best in Sardinia. The place we had them is highly recommended: the Ristorante Sa Pishedda on Via Roma, 2.

Mark chapter 8  "He asked them, "But who do you say that I am?"  Peter answered him, "You are the Messiah"."   In this chapter Jesus explains to the disciples that He is the Son of God and his teaching switched to the future suffering and pain he would have to go through.  I think they and we need to know that the Crucifixion is the center of the story, the reason God's son came to earth.  Yes he showed us a lot in his three year ministry but his real purpose was to die on that cross for our sins. The disciples had to know that they couldn't stop it - it had to happen.  How do you respond to that question - "Who do you say I am"?

On this day
2001  I was on a regular routine of exercise, shower, lunches, breakfast, school and work.  Nicole was playing volleyball this year and Kelly, another girls Mom and I drove up to St Clair together to watch the game.  I remember driving home on the dark wintry road with her and hoping the bus didn't hit any icy spots.  I don't remember the outcome of the game, but those girls in the country up there were tough to beat.

1818 - "Academician" began publication in New York City. A journal for Academics?

Specialties of Bosa

A special type of lacemaking evolved in the Bosa area called Bosa Filet Lace as is displayed in the picture to the right shown by 92 year old lacemaker Giovanna Ledda (see a video of Giovanna Ledda). If you are lucky enough, you might while strolling the town center catch a lacemaker working with the door open. The natives are quite friendly and if you show an interest in the work many times they will offer to sell you a panel or two.lacemaker picture  Beautiful, learn how or buy one to take home!

Mark chapter 8   In continuing The Gospel of Christs life and healing today tells of friends that brought a blind man to Jesus to be healed.  ".......when he had put saliva on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, "Can you see anything?"  And the man looked up and said, "I can see people, but they look like trees, walking."  Then Jesus laid his hands on his eyes again; and he looked intently and his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly."   We very often are like the blind man, we think we know what we see but it isn't the right thing.  When it says "he saw clearly" I believe it meant that his faith had been restored and he saw the Truth and the Way - the clearly true Jesus the Christ.  Are you seeing the right thing?  Do you need to look harder into your faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ?

On this day
1997  Not my best day - went to two funeral homes.  The first one was for my ex-sister in laws mother, over in Farmington.  My new sister - Alice and I went, which might seem odd,  but it was the girls, Merri and Lindseys' Grandmother.  The second one was a friend from Church's Mom.  It is important to pay our respects.  There was a note on the page "1 hang up at work".  My boss had a girlfriend that called a million times.  She talked in silly languages, asked stupid questions and was just an all around pain.  It went on for years.  Don't be Karen.

1778 - The United States gained official recognition from France as the two nations signed the Treaty of Amity and Commerce and the Treaty of Alliance in Paris. Our BFF

Bosa Sardinia
Inside the castle’s walls the wandering traveler will find a 14th century chapel called Regnos Altos which features some of Sardinia’s most important medieval frescoes uncovered during a recent restoration.
A short walk (or boat ride) down the river brings one to the Romanesque church of St. Peter, which dates back to 1062. The church sits in an idyllic spot amongst an old olive grove with a view toward the town on the hill. If you wander back to the apse, you’ll see an inscribed stone dating from Roman times set amongst the lower coarse of stone.
Walking toward the sea, on the other hand, brings you to the beach at Bosa Marina in less than a half hour.   Sounds great let's go!

mark chapter 7  They brought to him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they begged him to lay his hand on him.............."Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, "Ephphatha," that is , "Be opened."  And immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly.  My friends; parents were deaf and hard to communicate with if you didn't know sign language, but I tried and I learned somewhat.  Now I have deaf neighbors that I am able to have a conversation with.  But the truth here is that some people can hear and still don't listen.  The word of God is spoken in reading material, in speech, in action, in music and still some don't listen.  Try to listen with your heart and soul, be open to what you "hear".

On this day
1996  It was cold and a Monday, a bad way to start the week.  My car wouldn't start so my poor Mom dressed and came over to take me to work.  One of the bosses old buddies, Tony, gave me a ride home.  If you don't have people to back you up, and a lot don't, set backs like this can be life changing.  If it happens too often you could lose your job.  Plus, there is always the expense of getting the car fixed.  I had a great mechanic across from where I worked that helped me out a lot, and my Mom's car and later my daughter's cars.  Come to think of it, I was good business for Santo.  I hope you have back up's in place.

1782 - The Spanish captured Minorca from the British.  Minorca? Any idea?  I might have to add this to my travels on line.

Bosa Sardinia
bosa and castle picture

Bosa’s tall and rather slender houses line the river banks, a section of which, called “Sas Conzas”, is comprised of identical and thus harmonious structures once serving as tanneries. Colorful little houses continue up Serraville hill, which is capped by the ruins of a Castle built by the Malaspina family around 1112. From here one can get a fabulous view of sea, river, mountains and fruited plains.

Mark chapter 7  "A woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately heard about him, and she came and bowed down at his feet.  Now the woman was a Gentile..."  Jesus did not come just for the Israelite's, he came for all people.  This woman believed in him even though she was not a Jew. Jesus knew this and let her know that His love extended to her and her daughter was freed of the evil spirit.  Do you think you are outside of God's arms?  Do you feel like an outsider?  Do you think you have lived such a bad life that you cannot be part of the kingdom of God?  Jesus came for you, not for the righteous.  They didn't need to be saved, but those of us who were lost in sin have been saved and are welcomed to his home. The church.

On this day
1995  What do you do with your kids in the winter?  I found a theater class for Nicole called Let's Act UP at a local school.  She and Aaron had been doing little shows for the video camera for a while and I thought she might like to try this.  She liked it and finished the class.  The play they did was Cinderella, and there was one boy in the class who was the prince.  Nicole played the prince's "man" in the play.  Uncle Ty came to watch the end result with me.

1783 - Britain declared a formal cessation of hostilities with its former colonies, the United States of America.   Friends at last.

Bosa Sardinia
bosa riverfront picture
Bosa, on Sardinia’s west coast, is crowded into both sides of the Temo, Sardinia’s only navigable river. If a traveler reaches it from the north, most likely from Alghero, he’s had one of the most scenic rides available in Sardinia.  I think I did this picture as a jigsaw puzzle once.  Beautiful!!

Enjoy the day!  Make it memorable!  Happy Birthday Sandra!
