Get Fit
How about a weight workout today.  If you don't have weights grab a couple of cans from the food closet or water bottles and do some lifts, curls and rows.  Do a few squats and whatever you can remember for your legs while holding the weights.  Try and do 2 repetitions of 10 each to start.

Get Faith
2 Samuel 9 - I don't recall this story, but I love the message.  King David took in his friend Jonathon's son, who would also be the grandson of King Saul that David had defeated.  The boy's name was Mephibosheth and he was lame in both feet.  King David, because of his love for his friend Jonathon gave the boy the grandfathers inheritance and had him eat at his table - always.  I hope I would be that person that David was, how about you?

On this day:
1980 - This was a busy year and this day was interesting for my friends and family especially.  My boss Jim was off work in Gaylord with his parents, I don't remember if they lived up there.  Chris?  My friend Waynette called me about a canoe trip?  Really?  Waynette?  AND my step dad called from Gaylord their new beautiful barn burned down.  Now I know most of you don't journal, but when you get a day like this - you realize why you do.  I love to remind people of things that are often forgotten.  Life is important.

2003 - In Texas, fifty-nine Democratic lawmakers went into hiding over a dispute with Republican's over a congressional redistricting plan. Reading this way it will go down in history as a plot to murder. Gotta love the media.

Parenting
Last week when their was rioting there was a video of a mom that had gone into the street to retrieve her son from the ruckus.  She was slapping him up along side his head and although I don't know what she was saying, I can imagine.  She chased him back I'm assuming to his home.  God Bless Mom's.  Her son will probably have a longer life due to her diligence.  Hope she had a great Mothers Day.  What do you think?

Come Get These Memories - of the Sixties (excerpt)

I tried walking with my hands folded in front of me in like a prayerful trance.  I tried to keep a serene look on my face as if I had just spent time with the Lord.  I tried to walk a straight, non- hip swinging walk and wear my hair combed straight down, in a plain manner.  It was an extreme effort on my part.

Get Fit
Started back with AM yoga.  Was away from home all last week and other then a few good walks, it was a sedentary week.  Back to the program but I started slow.  When you have a break in your schedule, don't make it permanent, get back on target ASAP.

1Timothy 1:12-20   Paul writes -  Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance:  Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners - of whom I am the worst.  How do you feel about this statement?  Does it refer to you?  Do you feel you are the worst?  Somewhere in the middle?  Maybe  beyond help?  You are saved by Christ - God loves you.

On this day;
1979 - Our company accountant always had an end of tax season party in his office suites at the Troy Towers.  It was the go to party, lots of food, people and drinks.  I took a guy I was currently dating but had to call my old boyfriend Pete to let my dog Ziggy out so I didn't have to drive across town.  I always kept on good terms with my exes.

1889 - Major Joseph Washington Wham takes charge of $28,000 in gold and silver to pay troops at various points in the Arizona Territory. The money was stolen in a train robbery.  would you say this is robbing Peter to pay Paul?

Parenting & Family
Having been in the midst of moving my mom from Hospital to rehab to nursing home and now to assisted living, it seemed natural to go into Toronto with by bestie Chris to go through some of the same with her.  I love her family.  Even after a 30 year absence I feel like we just said goodbye.  I miss them already.

Come Get these Memories - of the Sixties (excerpt)

Sister Sam was the nicest sweetest person I had ever met.  I couldn’t imagine how kids could complain about the wonderful, habit clad ladies that were so visible in their classrooms and at that entire intersection.  She showed me around, and out to the gardens where they could sit in peace and pray.  It seemed a far cry from Pastor Born teaching confirmation class from Luther’s small catechism in his booming voice.  I began to think about becoming a nun.
Las Tunas Cuba

Las Tunas

The province of Las Tunas, situated between Camagüey, Holguín and Granma, is famous for its quiet, untouched beaches, rural “cowboy” culture and diverse array of events, including Cuba’s biggest campesino music festival, Latin America’s only magic conference and a month-long sculpture exhibit.
The provincial capital, the city of Las Tunas, has been dubbed El Balcón del Oriente (The Balcony of the Oriente), thanks to its location, marking the divide between western and eastern Cuba – both geographically and culturally. Also commonly known as the “City of Sculptures,” the city streets are decorated with more than 100 sculptures.
Las Tunas Province also has its share of shimmering sand, turquoise waters and colourful coral, most notably at Covarrubias Beach, on the Atlantic coast. Nearby is the province’s second-largest city, Puerto Padre, which is known for its sugar mills and a history dating back to

Get Fit
Beat myself up with Jillian today.  Circuit training with weights.  It works, this 68 year old was able to walk 7 miles up hill and down on Saturday with no pain after.

Get Faith
John 15;1-15 -  The vine and the branches.  Jesus used stories to help us understand.  This reminds me of being at camp and looking for dead branches to be used for camp fires.  The dead branches come from bushes and trees that are still alive.  The dead branches are dead because they fell off the tree.  At camp they are used in the fire that we sing and praise God around.  Don't be the dead branch join us in praise.  Stay connected.

On this day;
1977-  I had stopped at Pete's parents house to see Tatjiana and Erich his parents.  I was very close to them.  When I got home my Aunt Theresa and Uncle Hank stopped by.  I loved them to the moon.  They were always there for me and the most fun you can imagine.  All four of them are gone now. I'm glad I spent the extra time with them.  I can't tell you enough to not miss that opportunity to see the ones you love.

1494 - Christopher Columbus sighted Jamaica on his second trip to the Western Hemisphere. He named the island Santa Gloria. Mon.

Parenting/Family
Christina and I are going to Toronto today.  Her brother Ted and his wife Helen are still there where Chris was born and raised.  I have been there many times before and love going, it's like going home for me to.  Family is who you want it to be.

The Village of St Bernadette by Andy Williams
Maddie talked me into service at the old folk’s home. She had a lot of great ideas that girl.  I even got permission to leave my public school so that I could arrive there in time for my service.  My mom reminded me again and again that I was not Catholic and could not join the church.  Mom was battling a corps of caped nuns working against her.

Las Tunas Cuba

Overview[edit]

The Las Tunas province was established in 1976, when it was split from the 'Oriente Province.
The southern coast, which opens onto the Gulf of Guacanayabo, is marshy and characterised by mangroves. This wet area is used to grow sugarcane, as the wet climate is well suited for the crop.
Cattle are also grazed in the province, which was, until 1975, part of the Oriente province that was divided into five smaller provinces by the Cuban government. The city of Las Tunas was just a small market town until that year, and a large development program was started to modernise the town and connect it by road to Havana.[citation needed]

Did some Ballet today.  Dance is just a great way to exercise, you don't even know you are.   Just have fun!.

Revelation 21:1-8
This is about the second coming.  A new heaven and a new earth.  This is what our faith prepares us for.  It is indescribable in current terms, likenesses have to be used.  If you trust in God you know that his love will blend with ours and we will be in heaven.  God loves you.

On this day:
1976 - Christine, my mom and I had belly dance classes together at the YMCA. (See Get Fit above)  Christine brought me some knit slippers her mom had made me, they had pointed toes, like elfs feet.  I loved them.

2003 - Idaho Gem was born. He was the first member of the horse family to be cloned. I don't follow the horses but this is interesting, wonder how the horse did racing or any others cloned later.

Parenting/Family
Reversal - I have to make sure Mom is taken care of and that she has clean clothes for the week while I am gone to Toronto.

Come Get These Memories of the Sixties (excerpt)

Her parents were kind of hoighty toighty and so was she come to think of it.  They were Catholic and Maddie went to the Catholic school system at the corners of Outer Drive and Southfield.  You could start at St Scholastica elementary school, graduate to the High School which was St Benedictine and then kiddy corner from that was the Mercy College and finish up your life at the Arnold’s old folks home, run by the nuns on the 4th corner.  If you were a good Catholic you would marry and start having a hundred children after high school, or college which would put you back at St Scholastica, with your own kids. I do think it was a mortal sin not to follow that life path according to the Catholic Church.  They had a lot more sins then we had and had to go to the priest and tell him what sins they had committed.  I always felt that they considered themselves better than me because they were Catholic and I wasn’t, and later discovered that was an absolutely accurate guess.  But I tried to win them over.
Las Tunas Cuba - This looks great!

Geography[edit]

The city of Las Tunas is located in along the Carretera Central (highway), between the cities of Camagüey, Holguín and Bayamo.
In 1943 the municipality was divided into the barrios of Primero, Segundo, Antonio Machado, Arenas, Caisimú, Cauto del Paso, Cuaba, Curana, Dumañuecos, Ojo de Agua, Oriente, Palmarito, Playuelas and San José de la Plata.[1] The city is currently divided into the repartos (wards) of Primero (city centre), Segundo, La Victoria, Aguilera, Santo Domingo, Pena, La Loma, Aurora, Velázquez, Sosa, Casa Piedra, Israel Santos, Buena Vista, Alturas de Buena Vista, Propulsión, Aeropuerto and Reparto Militar.

History[edit]

The city was founded in 1796 around the Parish of San Jerónimo. In 1853, after a Royal Decree, it received the title of "city". In 1976, following the suppression of the Oriente Province and its split up, Las Tunas became the capital of the new and homonym province.

May 3, 2015 Sunday

Get fit  I need a day of rest.  Walked a lot yesterday up and down hills.  Will probably still try to get some yard work in today.

Get Faith I was at a place yesterday where  a lot of people got their faith.  It is a beautiful piece of land that you can feel God's presence and hear His voice in the trees and feel His presence in the Spirit.  Holy Sacred ground.  We prayed at many places and sang songs of praise to thank Him for the glory of his beautiful land. We are sent forth to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

On this Day
1975 - It was Orthodox Easter and I went with Pete and his family to the Russian Orthodox Church.  I loved the midnight service, it was so meaningful and involving.  I must be a religion junkie.  I love to experience the different ways that people pray, praise and worship.  God deserves it, He is awesome!

1966 - The game "Twister" was featured on the "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson. While the rest of the country was involved in Vietnam, war protests, race riots etc.  Nero fiddled.

Parenting
Spent the day with Nicole at Michiluca for the closing ceremony of this glorious camp of 51 years.  She had been a camper here and had served in many capacities.  She played camp music at the campfire that always made me cry.  I never felt worthy of God's love, but here at this place he rewarded me with a daughter who was faithful and true to loving and serving her God and was given the opportunity to continue his work at youth camps by running Stony Lake Camp.  She is now a leader, a person that will pass on this great faith to others - keep playing that camp music!

Come Get These Memories - of the Sixties

I don’t remember whose bedroom, upstairs we went in, but there was like a quilted bedspread on the bed and we went into the area between the bed and the wall and she brought someone’s double edge razor out and showed me how to drag it up my leg to remove that peachy, light colored fuzz off of my calves. It was like committing a mortal sin and fun.   We giggled and laughed at our big secret.  There was no soap or water or anything else, except the metal box of band aids which came in pretty handy when I was finished.  Of course what I didn’t know at the time is there is no going back, the next growth came in darker, longer and heavier than ever before, gone was the fair colored fuzz.  She taught me a lot of things, maybe her sister had taught her, but I didn’t have a sister so she was just as good.

Get Fit
Kathy Smith led me in some fat burning aerobics this morning.  Kind of in a hurry today, so I did about 20 minutes.  Going to be sitting a lot unfortunately.

Get Faith
Colossians 3:12-17  This is a continuation from yesterday's reading.  A new you in Christ.  "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."  In the face of all the hating, riots and murders these days it is hard to be this person, but wouldn't it be great if we all were?

On this day
2004 - Nicole's buddy Craig and I drove to Albion to pick Nicole up from her freshman year away at college.  He borrowed his mom's mini van and we got everything into that and Nicole's Tempo.  I'm sure many families are doing that same thing right now.

1905 - In New York, radium was tested as a cure for cancer. Didn't they find out this caused cancer?

Parenting
After having your "child" away that first year at college it is such an eye opener.  The changes are mind boggling.  They have now become independent, have all new habits and time frames and no attention span what so ever.  They fall back into family life in a couple weeks if I remember right, then go back in August.  Every year after it seems the changes are more extreme and less likely to go back to what they were.  What has your experience been?

Come Get These Memories - of the Sixties

We called for each other at the door in those days.  “MAAAADDEEEEEEEEE.” I hollered.   And Maddie came to the door. She obviously knew I was there by the dog barking.
Maddie was maybe a little older than me.  On this day she taught me how to shave my legs.
“Guess what I learned to do from my sister?” she said like it was a secret.
“What” I asked in great anticipation.
“Shave the hair off my legs” she held up a leg for me to see.
Now I can tell you, she had dark hair and so she had some pretty thick hair on her legs.  I was impressed at how smooth her legs were!
Las Tunas Cuba  We have moved.  Thought this would be interesting at this time.

April 30, 2015 #month?

Get Fit
Last night some friends and I started a country line dance class.  If you are looking for a fun way to get some exercise, this is it!  So this morning I just did a muscle warm up and a little leg and arm weight work out with Denise.  Trick yourself into getting some exercise.

Get Faith
Colossians 3:1-11 This is about how being a Christian changes you.  The study writer says - "In reality, what people need - what all of us need - is not an external make-over but an inner transformation. "  Does it worry you that you will be changed in a way you don't like?

On this day:
2003 - During the four years my daughter was in high school - I was in the Mom and Dad's Club.  It seems like most of my time was spent in the concession stand, either inside the school or outside at the athletic field.  Watching for a government program that will start paying for this and be retroactive.  Just kidding.

0313 - Licinius unified the whole of the eastern empire under his own rule.  Wow this seems huge but I don't even recognize his name.  Even big jobs go unnoticed some time.

Parenting - Took my daughter with me to the assisted living place with me, because as I told them - I needed more brains on it.  She helped a lot and even went on line for back up with government issues.  I'm hoping when I get to a retirement home there will be that pension for the parents that worked public schools for no pay for so much of their lives.  I guess our reward is in our children.

Come Get These Memories - of the Sixties

Looking for something to do one day, I scrambled out the side door.  She had a boxer that wouldn’t let you sneak up to their house.   I loved that dog, his name was Rocky.   I would go through the hedge - cross the alley and enter the gate to Maddie’s yard, no problem if the dog was in the house.  If he was in the yard he barked and jumped like I was a long lost friend.  He was a beautiful dog. It made me miss our dog Tippy that we had when we lived at the lake.  Dad got rid of her when we moved to the city.  I think because Mom couldn’t just let her out because the yard wasn’t fenced.  But I loved that my friends had dogs.
Kalkaska Michigan - packing up to leave here today, make sure you get your Kalkaska t-shirt and one for all your kids/grandchildren!  Moving to Las Tunas Cuba!
Enjoy the Day  Make it Memorable!  Happy Birthday Adam!
