July 2, 2014 Wednesday

Walked this morning.  Just a mile, saving myself for window washing today.

Psalm 3 - King David fears his son Absolom is coming to kill him so he can be king.  David prays to God to save him, but doesn't ask for Absolom to be killed, just hit in the jaw and broken teeth.

On this day:
2001 - Nicole brought home a dog, Montgomery aka Monte from W. Virginia work camp.  He was a great dog, very protective of Nicole, about 8 or 10 weeks, easy to train and showed possibilities of being a very large dog.  Walking him one day a young couple were so taken with him (after discussing with Nicole) we gave them the dog.  I hope he did well and they enjoyed him.  Pets are wonderful, but also a lot of work and responsibility and she didn't have time for a dog, still doesn't.
1947 - An object crashed near Roswell, NM. The U.S. Army Air Force insisted it was a weather balloon, but eyewitness accounts led to speculation that it might have been an alien spacecraft. I have been harassed about this, having been born in this year.  Some seen to think its how I got here.

Parenting - In looking back over 30 years of journals, it really shows how your life changes when you go from being single to being married, with kids.  Every 4th of July weekend during the 70's was out on the boat, at Put-In-Bay and later with kids, out on the boat locally, but much different scenario.  I would have to say that family time is much more memorable, you know?

Book Club - Animal Farm - by George Orwell.  It's not just abut the animals taking over the farm.

Bucharest- Lots of history here!

For many people, initial impressions of BUCHAREST (Bucureti), a sprawling, dusty city of some two million people, are less than favourable. As Romania's centre of government and commerce and site of its main airport, most visitors to the country will find themselves passing through the city at some point, but its chaotic jumble of traffic-choked streets, ugly concrete apartment blocks and monumental but mostly unfinished communist developments are often enough to send most travellers scurrying off to the more obvious attractions further north. Yet it's a city that rewards patience, with a raft of terrific museums, first-rate restaurants and bars, and, behind the congested arteries, some superb architecture and abundant greenery.
