August 17, 2014 Sunday

A day of rest.

The sermon tomorrow was from Matthew about the woman who challenged Jesus to give her even the crumbs from his table.  Her faith was great and the question today is How great is your faith?  We all need to work on that.

On this day:
1977 - I had a membership with Vic Tanny.  Remember that workout center?  I don't think they are around any more.  I was sporadic like most people.  I would go 3 times a week for a couple months and then once every two week, etc.  We all have to find what works for us.
1977 - Florists Transworld Delivery (FTD) reported that in one day the number of orders for flowers to be delivered to Graceland had surpassed the number for any other event in the company's history.  Remberber the other day when I reminded you that Elvis died, well it was bigger then I thought.

Parenting - Mom and I watched PBS last night.  They ran a bunch of music videos from the 50's and some 60's.  It sparked a lot of memories for both of us.  She said my Dad always turned on the radio and loved to listen to the music of the day, when he wasn't listening to the baseball or hockey game.  She said he was happy that I loved music and bought a lot of records.  I didn't know that.

Book Club - Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon.  I broke down and started this 4th in the Outlander series.  Clair and Jamie were shipwrecked and washed up on the shore of America in the mid 1700's.

Cairo Egypt:
Religion in Egypt controls many aspects of social life and is endorsed by law. The 2006 census counting method included religion, so the number of adherents of the different religions are usually rough estimates made by religious and non-governmental agencies.
Egypt is predominantly Muslim, with Muslims accounting for 90% of a population of around 80 million Egyptians[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] The vast majority of Muslims in Egypt are Sunni. A significant number of Sunni Muslim Egyptians also follow native Sufi orders.[10] There are under fifty thousand Ahmadi Muslims[11] There is a minority of Mu'tazila, Shia Twelvers and Ismailism numbering a few thousands.[citation needed]
According to the Constitution of Egypt, any new legislation must at least implicitly agree with Islamic law.[12] Article 45 of the Constitution extends freedom of religion to the three Abrahamic religions (Islam, Christianity and Judaism), but only those three.  Interesting.

Enjoy the day!  Make it memorable!
