August 8, 2014 Friday!

Last time up and down the stairs and this great exercise - put Vaseline on your nose pick up a cotton ball by smashing your face into a paper plate and then carrying in down to another plate.  Run back and get another one. whew.  VBS

Revelation- It is a revelation explaining this book to the kids.  We emphasized the description of heaven in today's story.  God's house has many rooms and there is one available for all believers.

On this day:
1997 - Nicole and I packed up and headed north.  We stayed at Andy and Alice's place in St Helen for the night and then drove to the Lake Huron Shoreline over by Tawas.  We decided we wanted to travel all of the Michigan coastline and did most of it over a few trips. We did the upper peninsula as well.  This trip just included the northeast coast from Tawas to the Mackinac bridge.  Stopped at my friend Pam's in Alpena for a while.  You should see Michigan if you haven't already, beautiful!

1815 - Napoleon Bonaparte set sail for St. Helena, in the South Atlantic. The remainder of his life was spent there in exile. Oh, St Helena, I thought he went to St Helen like we did.

Parenting - I pray to God for all people that have handicapped children.  We had a young man in a wheelchair that was helping in games this week.  Today while we were running with cotton balls on our noses he was spinning in his chair, entertaining himself.  His chair caught the end of the pavement and flipped over.  Sue and I were quick to the rescue.  He was fine.  My heart goes out to people that deal with this situation everyday.

Book Club - Voyager by Diana Gabaldon.  Clair has gone back to Scotland in the 1700's to find her Jamie and ends up in a house of iniquity fighting off an unusual little Chinese man.  She finds more trouble.

Cairo Egypt-  Lots of history here

Foundation and expansion[edit]

In 969, the Fatimids were led by General Gawhar al-Siqilli with his Kotama army,[14] to establish a new capital for the Fatimid dynasty. Egypt was conquered from their base in Ifriqiya and a new fortified city northeast of Fustat was established. It took four years for Gawhar to build the city, initially known as al-Manṣūriyyah,[15] which was to serve as the new capital of the caliphate. During that time, Jawhar also commissioned the construction of al-Azhar Mosque, which developed into the third-oldest university in the world. Cairo would eventually become a centre of learning, with the library of Cairo containing hundreds of thousands of books.[16] When Caliph al-Mu'izz li Din Allah finally arrived from the old Fatimid capital of Mahdia in Tunisia in 973, he gave the city its present name, al-Qahira ("The Victorious").[15]
For nearly 200 years after Cairo was established, the administrative centre of Egypt remained in Fustat. However, in 1168 the Fatimids under the leadership of Vizier Shawar set fire to Fustat to prevent Cairo's capture by the Crusaders.[17] Egypt's capital was permanently moved to Cairo, which was eventually expanded to include the ruins of Fustat and the previous capitals of al-Askar and al-Qatta'i. While the Fustat fire successfully protected the city of Cairo, a continuing power struggle between Shawar, King Amalric I of Jerusalem, and the Zengid general Shirkuh led to the downfall of the Fatimid establishment.[18]

Enjoy the day!  Make it memorable!
