August 4, 2014 Monday

Teaching at VBS this week.  I have the 4th & 5th grade.  So far it is proving to be a lot of exercise.

Genesis chapter 1 - Is the story that we taught.  I love the creation story.  What an awesome God! to have created everything and more.  From creating something from nothing - to the air you breathe, the skies, water, land.  Imagine all the plants and growth of food and material, in and out of the water.  The heavens with all the stars, sun and moon.  The life in the air, on the land and in the sea!  Phenomonal!  And his favorite and best work - us.  God so loved the world....

On this day:
1987 - We were up in St Helen, Mom and I  and Aaron and Nicole.  Nicole was 2 and Aaron was 9.  All week we had been on the go, to the beach and all around.  On this day we went to the deer refuge.  They have three huge pens and on this day, many deer. inside.  I have a sweet video of this day, watching the kids feed corn through the fence to the deer and even got on film, Aaron turning around to find a deer, out of the pen looking at him to be fed.  Aaron held out his hand and the deer, a small female stood there eating from his hand.  My heart kind of lurched, but Aaron didn't seem afraid and Nicole just stood and watched.  I remember the thrilled look on Aaron's face when he called to me to see if I was watching.
1987 - The Fairness Doctrine was rescinded by the Federal Communications Commission. The doctrine had required that radio and TV stations present controversial issues in a balanced fashion. I think they should reinstate this don't you?  Maybe I am not reading it right?

Parenting - God gave man dominion over the earth and everything in it.  We are supposed to be taking care of the earth, not just consuming it as we see fit.  After being in such peaceful, close proximity to those deer up north, I can't believe either Aaron or Nicole could go hunting and shoot one.  (I love venison myself if you are so inclined, though).  God does provide us with all we need to be clothed, warm and fed.  All we need to do is recycle, use resources sparingly and appreciate the world around us.

Book Club - Voyager by Diana Gabaldon.  Jamie is still back in the 1700's and Claire is searching historical documents to find out what happened to him.  Love this story.

Cairo Eygpt -
This article is about the Egyptian capital. For other uses, see Cairo (disambiguation).
Cairo (/ˈkr/ KYE-roh ; Arabic: القاهرة‎) is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Middle-East and second-largest in Africa after Lagos. Its metropolitan area is the 16th largest in the world. Located near the Nile Delta,[1][2] it was founded in AD 969. Nicknamed "the city of a thousand minarets" for its preponderance of Islamic architecture, Cairo has long been a center of the region's political and cultural life. Cairo was founded by the Fatimid dynasty in the 10th century CE, but the land composing the present-day city was the site of national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo is also associated with Ancient Egypt as it is close to the ancient cities of Memphis, Giza and Fustat which are near the Great Sphinx and the pyramids of Giza.

Enjoy the day!  Make it memorable!
