Found this on Google: "About 80% of the food found on shelves today did not exist 100 years ago."  While this is true, some of those foods are better than the foods they had access to.  Consider the life span then and now, and quality of life.  It is about making wise choices and limiting the amount.

1 Kings 19:9-21 From the old testament about the prophet Elijah.  Elijah feared the people more than God.  He tried to hide because the people were searching for him to kill him.  God knew where he was and gave him strength to go on with his work.  We are taught to fear, love and trust in God but sometimes we are the most to be feared.

On this day
1982 - I was volunteering with the probation dept at our court.  I had been assigned a girl slightly older than I was. She was on probation because she was an alcoholic and made some very bad choices.  I had signed us up for an exercise class together and then discovered she had stashed a bottle of gin in my glove compartment for on the way home, which she offered to share.  Alcoholism is a disease, not a choice.  In working for this program we were educated in the cause and how to support someone in this program.  She was a hand full, I worked with her for about 6 or 8 months until she ended up in jail on another charge.  I hope things changed for her.

1952 - Frozen bread was offered for sale for the first time in a supermarket in Chester, NY. We all know how good fresh bread is - but this is handy and you can bake it fresh.  See above get fit.

Parenting
My experience with volunteering with the probation department often included the family.  I was in a One on One project where we were assigned one person to see every week.  In younger teens, when the kids were still living home it was natural to meet the parents when I would pick them up.  This girl from on this day, was in her early 30's and still at home with mom and dad who had pretty much lost all hope for her.  They apologized to me for her attitude and behavior on a regular basis.  The entire family needs to get involved in rehab when this is the problem.
