August 14, 2017 Monday#getback#bejoyful#lightsout#protectedfromus.

Get Fit
Getting back to better everyday workouts plus I have to start walking so I can at least attempt a 5k.  I love the Atwater.  The walk is mostly along the riverwalk!

Get Faith
Philippians 4:4 - 5  "Always be full of joy in the Lord:  I say it again, rejoice!  Let everyone see that you are unselfish and considerate in all you do."  If you are harboring ill will with someone, say a sister and that shows up in your attitude toward her, but, you tell her you go to church, she might wonder why you are so unhappy toward her.  Afterall, you are a Christian right?  You are forgiving and selfless and loving to all your fellow humans, right? I am not saying this is easy, but, as Christians we are called to be that loving, caring, forgiving person toward everyone or they will never know the meaning of being a Christian and actually think we don't believe what we preach.  Smile and share love to the world.

On this day
2003 - Where were you when the lights went out?  This was the day the north east US and Canada grid went down.  We got a taste of how fortunate we are to have electricity.  The shop closed, after we realized that the power was not coming back on anytime soon.  We didn't know it would be out as long as it was.  After slowly driving home, carefully going through intersections we realized how far reaching it was.  Mom, Nicole, Al and I sat in the garage and played cards by candlelight and went to bed at 10, thinking - Oh, it will be on in the AM.  It was also hot, no a/c.  What did you do that day?

2003  On this day in 2003, a major outage knocked out power across the eastern United States and parts of Canada. Beginning at 4:10 p.m. ET, 21 power plants shut down in just three minutes. Fifty million people were affected, including residents of New York, Cleveland and Detroit, as well as Toronto and Ottawa, Canada. Although power companies were able to resume some service in as little as two hours, power remained off in other places for more than a day. The outage stopped trains and elevators, and disrupted everything from cellular telephone service to operations at hospitals to traffic at airports. In New York City, it took more than two hours for passengers to be evacuated from stalled subway trains. Small business owners were affected when they lost expensive refrigerated stock. The loss of use of electric water pumps interrupted water service in many areas. There were even some reports of people being stranded mid-ride on amusement park roller coasters. At the New York Stock Exchange and bond market, though, trading was able to continue thanks to backup generators.  We were more than a day.

Hawaii

Protected areas

Several areas in Hawaii are under the protection of the National Park Service.[45] Hawaii has two national parks: Haleakalā National Park located near Kula on the island of Maui, which features the dormant volcano Haleakalā that formed east Maui, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in the southeast region of the Hawaiʻi Island, which includes the active volcano Kīlauea and its rift zones.
There are three national historical parksKalaupapa National Historical Park in Kalaupapa, Molokaʻi, the site of a former leper colony; Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park in Kailua-Kona on Hawaiʻi Island; and Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park, an ancient place of refuge on Hawaiʻi Island's west coast. Other areas under the control of the National Park Service include Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail on Hawaiʻi Island and the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor on Oʻahu.
The Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument was proclaimed by President George W. Bush on June 15, 2006. The monument covers roughly 140,000 square miles (360,000 km2) of reefs, atolls, and shallow and deep sea out to 50 miles (80 km) offshore in the Pacific Ocean—an area larger than all of the national parks in the U.S. combined.[46]

Enjoy the day!  Make it memorable!  Happy Birthday to Waynette,Colleen, Maddie and Jim!
