August 16, 2018 Thursday #Love#Move#coastline#Minutemen#Vietnamclimate

Get Faith
1 Corinthians 13:7  "(Love) bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."  God is love, the creation and all things wonderful.  Our God shows us how to love one another beyond what we humans can absorb.   He tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves, to forgive 70 times 7.  His love is from as far as east is from west and as far as north is from south.  There is no limit to His love for us and he wants us to be the same.  This is not just a wedding verse.

Get Fit
Nothing like a rainy morning and Pilates.  I enjoyed the workout listening to the peace of rain falling on my parched lawn and considering how everything is renewed by action.  So, if you have fallen on a time of inactivity, pull yourself up and go for a walk, fix that bubbled paint on the bathroom ceiling, get rid of that wasps nest by your front door. Find something to break the bad habit.  Move!

On this day
1998  Nicole and I went for a long trip to the UP.  We tried to accomplish traveling the entire coast line, (which in Michigan is for the most part water) and on this trip we crossed the bridge and went to the north shore.  On this day though we were on our way back.  We had tried to memorize as much of  Longfellow's Hiawatha as possible, Nicole won.  We got up and drove the south coast back to St Ignace, stopped at the Mystery Spot, you know - the water runs up place, and then drove back across the bridge and made it to Andy and Alice's in time for dinner.  It says we went to see horses?  I don't recall that but after that we drove home because I had to be back to work the next day.  I think I have missed the chance to see the rest with Nicole, although there is not much we haven't traveled together.

1777 - During the American Revolutionary War, the Battle of Bennington took place. New England's minutemen routed the British regulars.
In 1777, the British launched two major offensives. In September, General William Howe captured Philadelphia, winning battles at Brandywine and Germantown. Despite the losses, the inexperienced soldiers of the Continental Army performed well and gained a measure of confidence, believing that they could very well stand up to the British. Then, in October, British General John Burgoyne invaded upstate New York via Canada, winning several initial victories. Later, however, his army became bogged down thanks in part to efforts of American militia units at OriskanyFort Stanwix, and Bennington. Then, after a stunning defeat in an open battle, Burgoyne surrendered his entire field army at Saratoga, New York.  Good to know our American history!

Vietnam

Climate

Mai Châu village in northern Vietnam, featuring a humid subtropical climate
Because of differences in latitude and the marked variety in topographical relief, the climate tends to vary considerably from place to place. During the winter or dry season, extending roughly from November to April, the monsoon winds usually blow from the northeast along the Chinese coast and across the Gulf of Tonkin, picking up considerable moisture. Consequently, the winter season in most parts of the country is dry only by comparison with the rainy or summer season. The average annual temperature is generally higher in the plains than in the mountains, and higher in the south than in the north. Temperatures vary less in the southern plains around Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta, ranging between 21 and 28 °C (69.8 and 82.4 °F) over the course of the year. Seasonal variations in the mountains and plateaus and in the north are much more dramatic, with temperatures varying from 5 °C (41.0 °F) in December and January to 37 °C (98.6 °F) in July and August.

Enjoy the day!  Make it memorable!  Happy Birthday to Pam and Mary!
